“Highly Recommended”
Everything you need in a city centre hotel. Fabulous staff!
“Great staff, small bathroom, perfect location”
We stayed 4 nights at the Hotel Rex over Thanksgiving and enjoyed our stay. The rate was great, close to the train station, metro, and walking distance to just about all of the sights in Rome. Our biggest complain was the bathroom. The shower stall was tiny (we're used to European standards) but the grout throughout the bathroom needed to be re-done. It was all black. In addition, there appeared to be no rhyme or reason when there would or wouldn't be _any_ hot water. One day we showered at 6:30am, freezing water. Two days, plenty of hot water at 8:30. Once at night, 9pm, no hot water. You get the idea. The only other real complaint was the quality of the mattress (again, we're used to European hotels). This thing was rock. After full days of walking around Rome it wasn't the most pleasant thing to lie down on. Aside from the above, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was always available to answer any question (in English) and help out to improve our stay. The location was great as we weren't close enough to any major streets to hear the noise but we were never more than a 10 minute walk to a large variety of restaurants/metro/sights. For a slightly more upscale stay than a no-frills hostel (with a private bath) for a reasonable price, Hotel Rex is the way to go. Just don't expect the Ritz.
“Great value with a personal touch. Location very convenient.”
My wife and I were very happy with our experience at the Hotel Rex. Emanuelle at the front desk was very helpful and good natured and gave us solid suggestions for nearby restuarants and sites. The room was comfortable and well furnished. The TV was a nice flat screen with SKY Europe. The value was exceptional. The only negative was that one afternoon the hot water wasn't working but this was taken care of quickly.
“Off the beaten track”
This hotel was a little pricey but come on it's in Rome. Were treated well with no surprises. A few times we had to wait a little for hot water. Buffet was good with nice options besides breads/pastries.
“Nice hotel, 10 minutes from main train station (Termini)”
Hotel pretty nice. American type space for room and bathroom. Bed was soft but pillows nice. You have to climb stairs to get to reception; once you take elevator, you still have to sometimes climb 1/2 flight of stairs to get to your room. Not sure how they handle their wheelchair customers. Service was good. Would stay here again.
“Tea and coffee in room, yeah”
Very helpful and friendly staff. Allowed us to move our accommodation forward because of medical problems even though it was booked as non-refundable/non-changeable . First hotel we encountered in Italy which supplied a jug in the room with tea and coffee making facilities although they do charge if you use them - definitely worth it. Easy to get around anywhere in Rome from this location. The only downside was the room was very small and we had a few problems flushing the toilet but these were only minor overall.
“When in Rome.... stay at hotel Rex”
This hotel is a great choice at a very convenient location only 5 minutes from Termini Station. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms spacious and clean, breakfast was very decent as well. I will stay here again when I'm in Rome next time.
“Nice hotel, but will stay elsewhere next time.”
The hotel was nice and in a very convenient location, but had a few problems that let it down. The breakfast was very limited and the same each day, the drinks were over expensive, the showers were not very good at all (either too hot or too cold, and were very weak), the A/C was also weak and they only provide you with one room key.
“Will go back”
Nice Hotel, great location. Would use again.
“Great location and breakfast!”
Rex is a 2 minute walk to Santa Maria Maggiore, 15 minutes from the train station, and same to the Colosseum, so it is perfectly situated. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Our air conditioning wasn't working so they switched rooms for us to a much nicer one for no extra charge. Zeebee, the handyman, brought us not one but 2 fans when the first broke ( it was a very hot week in Rome!!) Nice bathroom with marble, rain shower head, 110/220 power plugs, fridge, safe, flat screen with a few English channels. Breakfast was amazing- frittata, breakfast pizza, proscuitto, cereals, loads of fresh breads & croissantes, giant jar of nutella!!, fresh fruits, juices, cheeses, ham, mortadella, fabulous cappucino & espresso..all included. Francesca was very helpful at the front desk, ensuring our 5 am wakeup call, a private driver in a Mercedes to the airport for $50, and suggesting local restaurants such as the Gallina Bianca, although we chose the restaurant beside it because there was no table charge - go to Il Tavolinetto instead (read negative reviews for Gallina on same night we were next to it at Tavolinetto having a great time!) Would recommend Rex and return to it in the future.
