Dear Guest, you never cancelled any reservations. Rome is not in the red zone of the coronavirus disease. You reserved a not-refundable booking and for this you took advantage of a high-discounted rate. You paid Hotels.com, not the Hotel Madrid. By the way, our Manager offered you (through the Customer Support Team of Hotels.com) the possibility to move your stay to another period of the year, keeping the amount that you paid as deposit, but you answered with this disappointed review. Our Manager offer is obviously no more valid. Regards

Excellent location. We walked everywhere! We taxied to the Vatican but walked back! We were that close! We were able to do this thanks to the wonderful staff manning the desk. They helped us locate great restaurants and gave us maps and directions to every place we wanted to go. We booked our excursions through them and wished we had booked our car service through them. We would have saved money. Breakfast was the best meal! It was fresh and delicious. Start each day with espresso, cappuccino, or coffee latte, made by the friendly ladies who greeted us each morning. I miss the staff. We stayed in an historic building in the center of historic Rome and enjoyed modern convinces of free wi fi and elevators. Near a market! We recommend this place to everyone.

Great hotel in the middle of Rome's sights
Lovely hotel in a great location, easy walking to lots of major sights. In the middle of a really good shopping/eating area but still managed to be quiet. Big room and bathroom, very clean and comfortable. Wonderful views from the breakfast room on the 5th floor. Very helpful staff . Loved our stay, would definitely come back .

The breakfast was terrible I couldn’t even finish the breakfast of the first day so surely enough I didn’t go the next 3 days. I asked for an iron they said they didn’t have one because of a fire the occurred months ago which I thought was weird. The staff was friendly tho and room and bathroom were spacious although the bed was so uncomfortable. It was close to the station and a good location for transportation.

The staff was very nice and helpful. The location was excellent. The common areas were very outdated, but the room was clean. They were kind enough to give us an upgrade because the crib we requested wouldn't fit well in the standard room we booked. The breakfast food was just ok, but the view from the top floor was nice. My only real disappointment is that they said they had laundry, but it turns out it is an external pickup service, not a laundry area where you can do it yourself. The service was very expensive and the hotel charged a fee on top of that, so it ended up being about 60 euro for just two days worth of clothes.

The location of Hotel Madrid is fantastic - a few minutes walk from Trevi, Spanish Steps and very close to excellent bus and easy links to other parts of the city. Hotel Madrid is also very close to lots of fantastic shopping with lots of high street shops and countless designer options. The staff were helpful and friendly and did and excellent job. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty on the roof top terrace. In general, the room we stayed in was a little dated but it was also spotlessly clean, very spacious and comfortable. This hotel is an excellent choice for those who value cleanliness, location and friendly helpful staff over luxury modern fittings.

Hotel Madrid is a cozy hotel with amazing caring staff, in a perfect location to explore Rome on foot! Rooms & bathrooms are spacious and clean and have everything you need to get rest from eventful days in beautiful Rome (fridge, safe, hairdryer, basic toiletries). Air conditioner was working perfectly giving much needed relief in 30 heat. Wi-Fi was strong throughout the whole stay. Reception staff is very helpful and friendly, always there to answer your questions or give directions and make suggestions. Location is a few minutes walking from Spanish steps and Trevi fountains. Supermarket is right around the corner to pickup snacks or water. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes in any direction to satisfy any taste or just sit down with coffee or cocktail and watch people/enjoy the scenery. Breakfast is served on the top floor terrace from 7 am (convenient time to start your day early!) and will definitely leave you full and satisfied: scrambled eggs and bacon, various selections of yogurts, cheese, ham, fresh pastries and fruits. Their cappuccinos are AMAZING! Check in and Check Out process is quick and simple. In 3 days I spent in Rome I haven’t used public transport once - I walked to all attractions on foot, even to Vatican and Trastevere (Rome is indeed a very walkable city) Considering its location and superb service Madrid hotel might be not uber fancy but it is charming, clean and gives you a great comfort without breaking your bank. Highly recommend it!

the hotel was clean, the rooftop breakfast very good. The only thing was the rooms were dated dark, gloomy if they could be brightened up that would have improved my stay. The rooms are are small as well as the washroom is small space, lighter colors brighter lights would be a bonus..

Nice place in great location
I really liked the location of the Hotel Madrid,which occupies a cool old building just a couple of blocks away from the Spanish Steps. I shifted from an even less expensive place that was a little farther away and a little less comfortable. Front desk people were very nice and helpful. I was able to book last minute on the website with no problem, and then to extend a day. The room was spacious, but not spectacular, and the bathroom was quite large. There was no real view from the room, and the old window coverings didn't really let much light in, but the air conditioning was really good. Buffet breakfast was included and served on a rooftop terrace with a very nice view. The food was adequate. I would definitely consider staying here again.

The location is great. The hotel itself is quite old and not much renovated. Old type of air-condition was not working strong enough that made us sweat unpleasantly while sleeping. There was an old stain of little blood on the bed sheet which was rather unpleasant. Otherwise the hotel staff was always smiling.

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel. We loved how our room was kept clean, it had great air conditioning, and the breakfast on the terrace each morning was the best way to start our day. It was also within nice walking distance to everything we wanted to do in Rome.

Loved the location in Rome. All of the major tourist attractions are within walking distance. Must visit Sugo d'Oro nearby to eat. The lasagne is to die for. Also go to Pompi for the tiramisu, only two blocks from the hotel

El cuarto estaba muy bien, grande espacioso y cómodo. Pero tuvimos varios problemas, el desayuno no es muy bueno, el recepcionista de la noche es maleducado, teníamos el frigobar roto y no nos creía. Pedimos que lo arreglaran 5 veces nunca fue nadie a arreglarlo y la limpieza de la habitación fue empeorando día a día, no re ponían todas las toallas, no arreglaban la cuna de la bebé ni re ponían el papel higiénico. Es un buen lugar para quedarse, por la habitación y la ubicación pero quedan cosas que mejorar en el servicio especialmente.

I was surprised by the great number of 5 star reviews for this hotel. This hotel dark and dingy. The elevator is tiny and cannot reasonably accommodate one suitcase plus a person. The carpets in the lobby look disgusting. The lobby is a sad looking place which needs some uplifting. Our family room was nice enough but the beds were beyond uncomfortable. I tossed and turned all night. Breakfast was mediocre. The scrambled eggs were distasteful and made me gag. Also, they only provide shampoo in small plastic bags and no conditioner, etc. The alley/street is quiet and the Spanish steps are close by. We spent one night here and I will never return. On our way back, we stayed in hotel Sant'Anna which is quite lovely. I cannot in good conscience recommend hotel Madrid.

Nice hotel.
Hotel Madrid was nice. The room was was big. I didn’t feel cramped at all. Breakfast was included. Lots of pastries, scrambled eggs, bacon (not like American bacon), juices and coffee and tea. It was is a good area. Lots of souvenir shopping around and half way between the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. We walked everywhere. I would stay there again. They also offer taxi service from and to the hotel and the airport.

Excellent service. Antonio at reception went out of his way. All personal was really friendly, especially Mirella serving breakfast. Would recommend to friends. Beautiful roof terrace to have breakfast on every morning, stunning view.

Love where the property's located. Literally steps away from the Piazza di Spagna where all the sites, shopping, and eateries are located. The Metro is located just to the left of the Spanish Steps which makes getting to everywhere else outside of this location super convenient. Front desk people were nice and friendly and checking in and out were a breeze. Room's decent and comfortable but could use a little bit of moderning up without losing its character. A bit dark but it's got everything a visitor will need. Day before our last day, we finally got to take advantage of the terrace where they served breakfast and it was AMAZING! We weren't expecting much but they served eggs, beans, bacon, pastries, juices (the works). The lady managing it was incredibly sweet and even offered to take a picture of my family. Such a wonderful experience so don't hesitate to book a room here if you want comfort, security, friendliness, positive experience, and be central to EVERYTHING. Have fun and experience everything Italy has to offer. Ciao Bella mi amor.
