“Charming Country Inn in Rockport, Massachusetts”

I enjoyed my stay. The Inn is charming with a magnificent water view that is intoxicating if one is wanting to get away and simply relax. An air of friendly competent service exists among the staff. Cleanliness is obviously valued and the charm of this inn is enhanced by careful attention to detail. I liked the fact that the inn is removed from the hustle and the bustle of busy Rockport in the summer. I would avoid the rooms on the third and fourth floor if one is older and not comfortable walking up a lot stairs. I would simply try to arrange to rent a room on the first or second floor. The Inn's breakfast was superb and it was delightful to sit on the screened porch with a lovely water view while dining. Dinner was less than superb, however, and the owners would be wise to work on some culinary improvements if they want it to match the breakfast quality. For example, while the portion sizes are generous, the cherry sauce served with the duck was rubbery; the risotto served with the scallops was not cooked enough; and the Sauce Anglaise served with the berries was too hard and dry. On the other hand, the salads, appetizers, duck, and scallops were excellent. The wine list is quite ample and diverse.

Area recommendations
Browsing in the shops in Rockport is a delightful experience. Both Rockport and Gloucester have wonderful Art Associations which house painting collections of a superb quality -- and there are many individual galleries and artisan studios to visit. The selection of cultural activities are plentiful, too. Just walking along the shoreline and looking at the sea is enough, sometimes, too, and this is a delight.

“Wish I were there now”

Emerson Inn is a beautiful old hotel in a gorgeous location. A bit far from town if you don't have a car (which I didn't) but not a bad (20 minute) walk. Doable walk from the train station, if you're packing light as well, but I'm glad I had a ride for that. Comfortable and beautiful old inn. The dining room, parlour and outdoor porch are lovely. Nice garden with view of the ocean. And the breakfasts were unbelievable. I would love to go back and have dinner as that looked amazing as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and I can see why it's popular for weddings.

“So so...”

The room was too small and the hotel is a bit far from Rockport itself. But the service was good and the view is excellent.

“Alaska to the Atlantic- East Coast Quality”

I have stayed at many hotels, B&B's, and Inns around the nation and find the Emerson Inn to be historicaly unique. The accomadations are authentic and well cared for. I would recommend this Inn to anyone and would not hesistate in staying here again. The service was exceptional and very friendly.

“Romantic Weekend”

In the past I have booked Hotels on-line and been disappointed after getting to our room. (Where were those pics we saw on-line?) This was Not the case with Emerson Inn by the Sea. There was a big porch that looked out to the sea. Our room, although a little small, was more than adeqate for our weekend needs, with a queen bed. Dining room was comfortable, and breakfast was a nice selection of muffins, fruit, cereal and tea & coffee. We did not eat dinner (although menu sounded very good) we chose to go into town. Desk manager was happy to help us with and questions and recomendations and directions to area attractions. Over all a very nice B&B that I would go back to.
