“Poor Internet - Otherwise OK”

Typical Holiday Inn Express. Our only problem was that the WIFI connection was extremely poor and the connection kept getting loss. We couldn't even get a connection one night. Management kept saying there wasn't a problem.

“Enjoyed my stay.”

For the Dekalb/Sycamore area, you wont find much better accommodations. The room was in excellent shape and the staff was very helpful. Complementary breakfast was nice touch. Only downside is the size of the workout area. Limited to one elliptical, one stationary bike and some hand-weights.

“Served It's Purpose”

The desk staff was extremely friendly. A complimentary breakfast of rolls, doughnuts, fruit, oatmeal, coffee, tea, etc. was served in the lobby every morning which was very good. Microwave and refrigerator in the room was very convenient. The ceiling paint above the shower was badly peeling. The bed was hard (as are most hotel beds), and the pillows were too high (I suppose I could have phoned the desk to see if they had any other types of pillows, but I didn't think of doing that at the time). The window dressing on the window consisted of a sheer curtain which closed all the way, and regular curtains which did not close (purely decoration along the sides of the window, not functional). This caused a problem at night since there was a light outside of our window which shown into our room, yet we could not close the curtain to keep the light out. Also didn't like to change clothes inside the room at night with only a sheer curtain across the window. The room did not have a safe which was disappointing. We visited the DeKalb/Sycamore area for NIU's homecoming, and only spent time in the hotel to rest our heads at night. For that, this hotel served it's purpose fine.

“Good experience---but”

The hotel was satisfactory and did have a really great breakfast buffet that was available from 6-10 am. We didn't appreciate being charged for in-room refrigerator that was standard in some other rooms.

“The Staff was extremely welcoming and helpful.”

Comfortable stay. The breakfast wasn't very good, but it was definitely adequate.
