“All in all a good experience”
Have to admit, I was a little reluctant to stay at an all-inclusive. I've been to St. Johns and Provo before, and stayed at a rental house and small resort (respectively) so this was quite a bit different. If you are looking for a quieter, more private escape then don't stay here. There are many AI resorts all around, so strolling the beach isn't really relaxing. The hotel staff is FANTASTIC. Friendly, helpful, and courteous. Food was...mediocre at best. Make reservations at the 2 restaurants the second you check in. We only got 2 during the 5 days we were there, and 1 was at 9:30 pm. Beach is great, water is clean and warm, tons of activities each day (paint a pot by the big stage - Romeo is an artistic genius!). All in all, it was a good experience. We had an incredible time, and would recommend it for groups or a few couples going together (or, if you are in your early 20's). Also, be sure to arrange for shuttle transportation - it is a 45 minute drive from the airport and you will want to be safe.
“Spend a little more and go somewhere else”
For the money we paid, we did not expect luxury but I'm glad we spent only 5days in this hotel. The room was nice and clean but smelled so musty and moldy that it bothered our nose. The food: First of all let me say, we are not picky eaters and eat pretty much everything but never had a really good food the whole time. The buffet was very small and had the same tastless food every single day. They served only one kind of fish and no seafood at all! There is only one pasta staion but there was a mile long line, so we didn't eat pasta the whole stay. For the 5days, you can make 2 restaurant reservations. The mexican restaurant was awful, the appertizer taco was so dry, I couldn't even bite on it .The last 2 days instead of celebrating my husband's Birthday, we got very sick. We drank only bottled water, maybe from the food? We had stomach ache, chilles, bad diarrhea and got very weak. The beach is beautiful and kept very clean. lots of palapas, no problem there. The hotel ground looks like an eco resort but not kept up very well. Dead, dry leaves are everywhere, not cleaned up.We went to the famous 5th Ave but hated it. Sales people are very pushy, you can't even walk in peace, every second you have to say: "No, thank you". One guy we said no, thanks to goes: "That's how you treat the poor mexicans?" We love to help local people but it was too much... Also visited Tulum and Coba, we had fun. We would chose an other hotel next time.
“Not impressed”
The hotel could use major renovations. Our room had ants and they need staff they speka english, since most of the tourist are American. Howvever, Oscar made our stay better!
“Excellent Value”
My friend and I just returned from a week at the Viva Wyndham Maya. This was a girls trip that we planned last minute (only a month in advance). Viva Wyndham is rated a 3 star resort which is the lowest rated resort that I have stayed at so I was a bit concerned. This was my fourth all inclusive trip to Mexico (Puerta Vallarta 1X and Cancun 2Xs) and my first to Riviera Maya. I was VERY pleased with this hotel. The grounds, which have mature landscaping and Mayan inspried art throughout, are simply lovely. We requested an ocean view room and received one although this is challenging in the Riviera Maya vs. Cancun due to the building codes that limit hotels to 3 stories. Consequently, the properties in the Riviera Maya are much bigger and have more green space but are more spread out and have fewer ocean view options. There are very few waves so guests are safe to Sea Kayak and snorkel from the beach. Highlights: the activities, sports and entertainment staff are excellent, gorgeous beach , lounge chairs plentiful, awesome adult pool, lobby bar w/piano music in the pm, made to order coffe drinks in am . Lowlights and really one of my only complaints aside from the # of smokers, was the buffet, previous reviews were right on the mark with this-it was entirely TOO HOT, almost unbearable. Food was fine, we were lucky to get more than 3 reservations for dinner (kindness and small tips go a long way.) Overall a wonderful vacation and excellent value for what we paid.
“good value for money”
We found this hotel to be very good value for money, the bar staff and waiters/waitresses work hard and are very pleasant, the check in desk was at times a little crowded and slow to process people, the entertainment at night was very enjoyable and there were heaps of activities to do during the day organised by the workers. All in all we stayed 10 nights and had a wonderful time and would go back again.
“Great place to stay. Thumbs up”
Excellent hospitality. Very clean resort. Beautiful surrounding, Nature's way of relaxing environment throughout resort. Very hard working employees. Constatnly cleaning and maintaining to perfection. Good entertainment, plenty to do. Great dining. Can't go hungry or thirsty. (being in nature of mosquito season, resort did, yes have pesty bugs under control) Thank you! One Suggestion: to have installed few coin operated laundry machines, with constant change of clothes. Didn't have much clean clothes left, and hate to travel with luggage full of dirty laundry. We would prefer to have washed our own clothes. The public laundrymat was not convenienently nearby. I did have one complaint though. If all inclusive resort, why do we have to pay for internet access? We had to do airline check-in for departure & print our boarding pass. There is no Kiosk. Front desk told us we have to pay to get on the internet.
“Will probably go back”
Great place! The beach was probably the best beach I have ever been to down there. The activities staff were great. Took a 19 and 13 year old - they are wanting to go to this same resort next year. Always something for them to do there. The buffet restaurant needs some air going thru it - it was too hot - tried not to eat in it. The resort squeezed too many chairs onto the beach - it was necessary for the amount of people, but would have liked a little space between each chair. Even with these few issues, my husband and I will probably go back again. We have been going to the whole Yucatan area 1 or 2 times a year for the past 10 years and have never stayed at the same resort, but very probable that we will stay at this one again.
“Awful service”
I had never stayed at a hotel with such a poor service level. The quality of the food is bad. I suggest to look for better options.
“Viva Windam All inclusive very good”
Very good price and location, clean rooms and great food
“Not a V.I.P?”
The ViVa Wyndham Hotel lacked hospitality and a warm welcome. When we arrived we were told our rooms would be next to each other. The rooms were separated by a stairwell and they reeked of cigarettes. We requested a change of room and fortunately they were better and adjoined. We also found out that if you did not have a V.I.P status which is promoted at the hotel, reservations at the restaurants were limited. The selection of the food at the buffet was not great.
