“I WOULD stay there AGAIN and AGAIN”
Last year I stayed at the Wyndham Mayan and disliked my whole experience. This year I decided to give Wyndham Azteca a chance and I don't regret it. The service was great and the staff were always extremely helpful. The beds are a little hard and so are the pillows. The beer selection is only kind and it's watered down. The food is great. The buffet was always my favorite spot as well as the buffett in the pool area. The food was fresh daily. I have a delicate stomach so food is VERY important to me. I would go back.
“OK time, but would not stay again.”
This hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful. However the beds were uncomfortable and the rooms needed to be updated. The food on the buffet was ok. Not the best, but when you are hungry it will do. There is a wonderful Italian restaurant on the property that was amazing so we ate there most nights. The pool was very small, but the beach was beautiful. There are no elevators! At first this was no big deal to us because someone carried our luggage upstairs for us, but by the end of the week it was difficult. When we came back hot and tired from an excursions and had to climb stairs to get to our room we were frustrated. Overall you get what you pay for. We were looking for something not too expensive and that’s what we got. Don’t expect too much from this place and you will not be disappointed.
“Can't Find the Complaints”
We booked our room at the Viva Wyndham Azteca on the recommendation of our realtor. They stay here often. We read some of the reviews and people were complaining about food quality and all kinds of things so here's our experience: The room was small but who cares? Are you really there for the room? It was clean and it had a bed, a shower, and a toilet. What else do you want? The housekeeping staff did a great job keeping it clean and nice. The food was buffet food. They're cooking for 340 rooms so don't expect Filet Mignon on the buffet. The theme for the buffet cycles based on the day but there were always hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and a salad bar. The food we had was great and there was plenty of it. The reservation restaurants were amazingly good, but you have to know how they work. The first day you get there, make your reservations and you will only get a few based on how many days you stay. We stayed for 6 days and got 2 reservations. They don't cost extra so that's why they limit you (we had Filet Mignon at the Italian restaurant). The staff was friendly and did everything they could to make our stay great. Their "animators" (the ones in charge of activities and such) even ate their meals with the guests if you wanted them too and every night they put on a show with dancing in their theatre. Honestly, for the price we couldn't be happier and you will be too if you don't go there expecting the Ritz Carlton for the price they charge.
“Great All Inclusive”
We had so much fun here. It is very convenient and the food is diverse and excellent. The sister hotel is an 8 minute walk along the beach and has added amenities to enjoy.
“would go back in a minute”
Loved it! Would go back in a heartbeat!
“Definitely a 3.5 star hotel”
No alcohol in fridge, 2 restaurant reservations only for a 5 night stay equals bufet for the rest of the stay and the buffet is gross. Tried to book reservations for 2 meals the day we arrived and they were booked for a week. Unimpressive.
“Had the Best Time”
This was our first trip to Playa Del Carmen and we stayed at the Wyndham Azteca. The hotel was absolutely beautiful and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was really good and the hotel restaurants were amazing. The beach was absolutely gorgeous!!! The only negatives I would have to say is that the pillows in the room are a little hard and the bed is extremely firm. So next time I will bring my own pillow from home - LOL. Also a couple of tips: When you go to the hotel gift shop make sure you have clean bills. They will not accept money that is torn or ripped or written on. And make sure you get to the pool early and get chairs because they go really fast. I would also recommend the Jungle Mayan Tour with Alltournative!! It was the best time and the best excursion!! We did ziplining, rapelling and snorkled in the Cenotes. They also provided us with an official homemade Mayan lunch. DELICIOUS!!! We had a blast and it was amazing!!!! We went shopping into town (The Fifth Avenue) and ate at La Parrilla Restuarant. I would recommend it if you want some great mexican food. I loved the Azteca Tacos!! They were delicious. We will definitely be back again and bring our friends and family and will definitely stay at the Azteca. It was heavenly and it was paradise!!
“cheap trip good time”
The hotel is in a great location, its beach is BEAUTIFUL, 5 star, the rest of the hotel is 3 stars. The gym is good, more then I expected. The food, bar, service is 3 stars. There is no swim up bar, I was sad about that. The food selection is the same most days and somewhat borning. But for the price the trip was fun and the beach was great. Bring a big mug or pop cup because the trip from the beach is a hike and there is no drink service on the beach.
“Satisfied but not sold 100%”
Beautiful place. Great food. Exceptionally friendly staff. Not impressed that I did not know we'd need a cash deposit ahead of time or that there is no shuttle from airport. Taxi from airport to hotel was around a Benjamin. Not a good start. Pool closes at 8. Whaaaaa? What kind of resort closes the pool at 8? Single mom with 3 kids put in a room directly under the theater. LOUD music until late at night. Also not impressive.
“A great choice!!!”
For the money you can't beat this hotel. Staff was very friendly & accommodating. Room slept four to the best of it's ability. Waite staff at the bars was exceptional. (Note: A small tip goes a long way. By the third day they knew what I drank & many times by the time I got to the front of the line it was waiting. Food in buffet is repetitive but we ate three meals at the restaurants which were superb.
