“Great resort”
The hotel was exactly as I imagined and I was very happy with the service and the friendly staff. My room was cleaned twice a day and there was no moldly beach smell you get at most resorts. I realy felt safe and secure. The food in the restrauants was very good and I would definitely go back. It was exactly the vacation I hope for.
“Truly a Five Star Experience”
This hotel was truly a five star experience. The staff was very friendly and atttentive. The premises and our room were spotless and immmaculate. The food was truly gourmet (I am a New Yorker with high standards). There were no reservations required at any of the six restaurants. Everything was extremely clean - the rooms, common areas, beach, etc. There were no towel cards or limit to the number of towels each guest wanted. Finding beach chairs was easy. There were waitresses/waiters on the beach that were quick to return with drinks. The Royal is an authentic Adults Only resort - there were no children whatsoever. The environment was romantic. Each night they had entertainment that was impressive. One show, Elements, had acrobats and dancers that could characterized as a Vegas type of show. They even had a White Party (white themed outdoor dinner with a dance floor, DJ, and funky dressed dancers standing on speakers surrounding the area. The location of the hotel/resort was ideal. It was about one block away from 5th Avenue (a commercial strip) which was convenient for strolling around when the need for visual stimuli arose. They really did not play loud music near the pool - I hate loud music because it usually represents the tastes of the workers and not the guests in my experience. In any case, most adults want to relax on vacation not listen to rap music and Spanish reggae. My wife and I travel often and this is one of the best resorts we have visited.
“"second time around" was dissapointing!”
I stayed at the Royal about 4 years ago and really loved my stay from the food, service, pool, room and convenience. My recent stay was not even close to the first time. The checkin took way too long and our room was not ready till after 4:00. We decided to upgrade our room which was supposed to be ready early the next day as promised. When I called as instructed by their staff in the early am I was told that the guest was still in the room and had not checked out. Long story short, i paid for the room, left the beach ready to move, and their answer was "its not our fault"??!?! After much yelling, a beachfront room became available next to the one we were supposed to get! The first afternoon we got there i went up to get towels by the pool and was told there were none and it would be 2 hours until they had more!!! WHAT??? This man who worked there had a cart with books and lotion magically pulled out 3 clean towels for me and my sister after he heard me upset! There is this great photographer there that takes great pics but guess what?? if you check out on sunday they are closed and you cannot get your pictures! No sign or notification about that! thanxxxxxxxxx Food: Pelicano's and the Asian restuarant are good, not great. Everything else was horrible. Best Day/Expedia was the only service we were happy with. Transportation, tours and service were perfect. They were friendly and helpful. This is my sixth time in Playa and I will not return to the "ROYAL". Mrs.VG
“Excellent resort”
Service was great! The room was perfect, comfortable, good size, very clean, staff was friendly and respectful, pools were clean, food was amazing!
“best food”
great hotel. very good food and service. the beach, pool and the band at night were poor.
“AMAZING!! Service is exceptional! Food is exquisite! Breathtakingly beautiful”
The Royal in Playa Del Carmen is simply the BEST! Went there on our honeymoon and it was perfect. The rooms are beautiful, service is 5 star. The food is exceptional. The entertainment every night is great. No need to leave the resort.
“Beautiful rooms!”
Great location, gorgeous hotel with a great staff! Right in the shopping district! Food & shows were pretty good, the only thing is they should have some kind of night life (like a club, band or something, everything closes after 11pm and you have to go down the street to find anything happening!) Also the music by the pool could have been louder! But its a great hotel & would go there again in a heartbeat!
“Alex”
Excelents days there.
“Great experience!”
Food and service were above expectations!!
“CFG”
We chose this hotel due to its location, in the heart of Playa Del Carmen. We went there on our honeymoon. From the time we checked in we were able to avail ourselves of the "ALL INCLUSIVE". The resort offered five restaurants- all offering great food, gourmet portions, and excellent presentations. It also offeres several bars, and a well stocked mini bar in the room bar, and 24/7 room service (all part of the all inclusive). service was excellent at all times. The hotel was always clean. There is a spa, with professional messages (for an additional cost - but well worth it). The surrounding neighborhood was perfectly safe and offered plenty of local shopping, bars, restaurants and clubs, should you wish a change from the resort. Met plenty of other couples who were returning guests, and we plan to visit again as well. Wonderful experience.
