“Good for honeymooners...”
Great location, great concept and look of the hotel. Room was a bit too small for me, but since Playa is not a place you want to stay cramped up in your room, then you will have no problem. Other that, was extremely satisfied with the stay at Mosquito Beach.
“New home away from home!”
Love the atmosphere at Mosquito Beach. Was able to walk 20 paces in one directio to the beach and a half block in the other direction to restaurants, shops and nightlife. Suite was more like a large room than a true "suite", but still great accomodations for the price. Will definitely go back, but may try a larger room on the next visit. Bathroom was very unique - square toilet, cool shower. Room could use a bit more optional lighting, a dresser (or place to unpack your things) and maybe a mirror.
“The hotel staff was very accomodating and catered to every need....including an umbrella for rain!”
The Mosquito Beach Hotel was very accomodating. The wait staff was friendly and service was excellent. The management personnel was exceptional.....visiting the tables and talking with guests and making everyone feel at home.
“If back in Playa del Carmen I'll stay there.”
Nice place
“CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK”
This was the second time at Mosquito Beach Hotel and just as great as the first time. The associates were charming and very helpful. We plan to go back to Mosquito Beach as soon as we are able. The beaches are beautiful, the people are wonderful, and we highly recommend shopping in Playa Del Carmen.
“Just right for us”
The location on the beach was perfect. The wait staff at the beach were friendly and attentive. The hotel was very open to letting us change rooms to a more quiet location. Be aware that during some parts of the day that Police do not let taxis and vans cross 5th Ave. to reach the hotel. You may have to walk 2 blocks.
“Poor beach service - not impressed dark rooms, the only thing this hotel has going is it's location.”
Great location, so not worth it! Yes the rooms were dark and the toilet's funny - but we knew this from the reviews! The rooms don't have mirrors - no good for getting ready to partying or out for dinner! Pool area is nice and the beach is just a walk down a path. Forget getting drinks or food from beach staff at hotel, they seem to ignore you, we had to ask for drinks and food over aqnd over before anything arrived. We ended purcahsing soft drinks from local shop as the bar staff at hotel were not interested and didn't seem to care, they were rude. Reception staff and mangement were helpful and polite. The houskeeping were lovely! Met other tourists who said illusions hotel opposite so much better rooms are airy, twice the size and half the price! Hotels situated in a pedestrian area, you don't always get picked up at the hotel for excursions taxis to airport etc.
“mosquito beach”
We read a million reviews of every hotel in the area and to be honest we were not sure what to expect when we got to playa del carmen but I am happy to say that Mosquito Beach was very nice. It's modern, clean, the breakfast is delicious, and the beach is a stones throw away. We had read that the rooms were small but there was plenty of room for the 2 of us, our clothes, and my guitar. It was quiet at night and the staff was very helpful. Playa del carmen is lovely but it is certainly a major tourist destination. There are very nice restaurants, hotel and resorts, great beaches, and people from all over the world. But if I could do it again I think that I would stay in Tulum. Tulum is also a popular destination but we saw fewer hotels, fewer people, and the beaches were breath taking! It just seemed like a more secluded, quiet, and romantic spot. The ruins of Tulum and Coba are very nearby and its easy to get to Playa and other destinations by car. Either way you can't go wrong. Playa is exciting and bustling with tourism Tulum is more laid back. Have a great trip!!!
“Darkest rooms on the planet!”
Dark brown walls, floors and inadequate lighting made this room about as inviting as a dark cave. Our air conditioner leaked and one of the two light bulbs in the bathroom was burned out. When I reported it was treated as "oh well." The staff (with the exception of our house keeper) were inept and paid little attention to detail. No commitment to guest satisfaction. The toilet (bathroom in general) was the most ridiculous I've ever encountered. The saving grace of this hotel was the beach beds mere yards away in one direction and the vibrant nightlife of Playa mere yards away in the other direction. Location is all this place has going for it. The sheets were made of paper, inadequate room furnishings, little privacy (all rooms face each other with sliding glass doors) and bad customer service will not ever briong me back to Mosquito Beach.
“Great Location, but room is small”
The hotel is very nice, very modern, and has a great location. It is right on the beach and the beach lounge area was fantastic. There are great black beds set up on the sand, big enough for two people to lounge all day comfortably. The beach bar has great food and drinks, breakfast overlooking the ocean was delicious and perfect every morning. The rooms are decorated very nicely, but they are very dark and small. We didn't spend much time in the room, so it wasn't really a problem for us, but there is barely enough room for two suitcases and you will be dressing out of your suitcase because there is no dresser. It's tough to beat this location, so just be aware that you're paying for location not large spacious room. Also, although they advertise down pillows and comforters they are definitely not...and no hottub in the hotel was a bummer.
