“Good hotel but choose your room wisely”

First of all, there is a bar near the pool that it is a stretch to call a "lounge". So don't expect a lounge of any sort but you can order drinks (at American prices, of course). Second, this hotel is located one block off of 5th Ave (the main tourist street) but it sits catty-corner to a club called Coco Bongo that is reeeeeally loud at night. You MUST get a room on the quiet side of the hotel or you will not sleep well. We stayed on the quiet side and could not hear it at all. However, we spoke to a couple of other hotel guests who said the noise was terrible. The rooms and grounds of this hotel are very nice. I never hang out by the pool when I'm in the Caribbean but this pool area is so serene that I found myself there a lot. The hotel contracts with a place on the beach for beach chairs but, if they fill up, you are out of luck. Also, it is not the best stretch of beach because all of the fishing and snorkeling boats dock right there so the view isn't great and there are few open entrances into the water that don't occur between boats. Big bummer there. Overall, this is a great spot just off of the tourist area, near or within walking distance to Mega (think Walmart) and various restaurants. I would consider staying here again but their contracted beach access point might deter me.

“I will always stay here”

People have complained about noise in their reviews because of the hotels location across from CocoBongo, if this is the case, don't go to Mexico, I mean we all go there to have an amazing and entertaining time day and night, right? The resort is beautiful and quaint. The rooms are extremely roomy and kept very clean and they even come by for turn down services :-) if you are in your room and fall asleep to watching a great movie from their wonderful selection, you cant hear anything from outside and you wake up to the beautiful sound of birds and amazing blue sky and glass mosaic pool in the resorts oasis! Location couldn't be any better. I have been to Playa 5 times now and have stayed at a few all inclusive and boutique hotels, we even stayed at the Porto Real our first 4 days and we felt more in the tropics and at home @ the Magic Blue, we love this place and can't wait to go back! For it's, price, location, and the beauty of the resort, it can't be beat.

“Magic Blue Hotel & Lounge”

Great Hotel. Great Location. Nice pool. Nice bartenders. No kids( i love kids but it was a nice break). Awesome beach club access. Breakfast buffet could use some work. The food was fair at best with very little variety. The beach club is wonderful except for the food.I had a lamb burger and my wife had a salad . It seems crazy but both were horrible and expensive(for mexico prices) . I suggest keeping it simple. Playa is beautiful and has more of an international crowd and better looking crowd then most other mexican vacation destinations. I have been to Cabo, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Playa all within the last year. We met wonderful people from around the world which was a nice change. For instance we had dinner with a couple from Germany, 2 British girls, 1 Venezuelan girl , a New Yorker who lives in Colorado(me) meanwhile eating Thai food in Mexico(Babes Noodle Bar). Also if you like going out at night there are endless clubs and restaurants all within a couple blocks of Magic Blue. This may be nitpicking but Magic Blue could use an outdoor shower at the pool and the rooms could use a couple more towel hooks. Also the key chains for the room keys are absurd mine fell apart daily leaving little glass beads all over town. Nora at the front desk was very sweet(dulce) and Alejandro the bartender was charming and speaks 5 languages. Overall it was a great trip and we will be returning shortly.

“Great hotel!”

This hotel was great if you can't/don't want to stay right on the beach. It was within walking distance to everything - beach included. Staff was VERY helpful and very nice. The room was cleaned beautifully each day. Breakfast buffet next door was great to start the day. Loved spending time at the bar by the pool. Loved Indigo Beach Club. Would stay there again for sure!

“Playa Del Carmen 2011”

The Magic Blue is a perfect place to stay in Playa. It is affordable and in walking distance to everything. It is not a luxury resort by any means, but is a charming, nice enough place for anyone. The customer service was great. I loved the personal hammocks on the porch and the pool was relaxing.

“Magic Blue Hotel rocks!”

Overall, our experience at Magic Blue Hotel and at Playa del Carmen was more than satisfactory. It turned out to be more than what we had expected. The hotel was beautiful, the grounds were immaculate, the rooms clean and modern, and the staff was overwhelmingly friendly. We will be going back again!

Area recommendations
The side streets off the VERY busy 5th Ave., offer some very good restaurants. Be sure to look.
Getting there
When leaving the Cancun airport, we were accosted by dozens of people offering to take us to our hotel in the town of Playa del Carmen. It was a little overwhelming. I highly recommend taking the ADO bus at the airport to Playa del Carmen. It will cost you a mere fraction of what the collectivos, or private vans/taxis are offering. (At the time, it cost us about $5, or 110 pesos) It is a good 50-60 minute ride from Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen. The buses are clean and comfortable, and are located in the parking lot outside of Terminal 3.
Dining
Two restaurants I would highly recommend: La Parrilla, and La Sirena.

“Centrally located, best location ever.”

The hotel is very centrally located to shopping, and the beach, restaurants and bars. Lots of choices for dinner, but if you want cheaper meals don't eat on the main strip. Shopping is great, hotel is peaceful and quiet. The pool has the feeling of being at a spa. The grounds are perfect and the staff very helpful and pleansant. Would definetely recommend staying there to anyone going on vacation. The Blue Parrot on the Beach gives excellent service and are extremely polite and helpful. Breakfast on the beach at the other hotel location was also a very pleasant experience. We would go back there in a minute. Just ask them to brighten the bulbs or update lighting in and around the mirror.

Area recommendations
I felt quite safe and was never concerned about my safety. Especially in and around 10th and 12th Avenue. The beaches are patrolled regularly and there is no problem at night in and around 5th ave. Lots of choices as to where to eat. I would recommend the Blue Parrot, Fusion bar, Zensie and any clubs, bars along the waterfront. Fusion bar has different themes almost every night and we especially enjoyed the Salsa dancing by the locals. It is something to see just how well they can dance. The Beaches are bright, clean and go for miles. One can go for long walks on the beach and enjoy all the lively people and music. All the food is delicious and quite safe to eat. Drinks are really great too. You simply must try the drink called "Sex on the Beach" very popular. Had a lot of good laughs around the name of the drink as well. There are lots massage places along the beach which are very professional and you will a great experience. For a cost of $25.00 you will get a 60 min full body massage which will leave you relaxed and rejuvenated. Another must is to go swim in a cenote (frest underground pools of water) your hair and skin will feel amazing afterward. Great Experience ........
Shopping
There are so many shops that we shopped nearly every day. Lots of sites to see and lots of bargains to be had. There is enough for everyone and every budget. So choose carefully and will get your money's worth. Abundance of restaurants and bars and all aim to please and ensure you have a great time. The wait staff is amazing and will never have to wait for service as they all want your business.
