“great find”

A lovely hotel in quiet location. Pretty setting, nice pool and really friendly staff. Good price too. Its about. 15min walk to main drag, but that's not really an issue as its nice walk. Highly recommend!

“Hidden Gem”

We had an amazing stay at this hotel. The staff was super friendly and our suite was amazing. It was nice and quiet and the grounds were beautiful. We went to a wedding at one of the big expensive all-inclusive resorts along the beach and were so glad that we weren't staying there -- it just seemed so loud and impersonal in comparison.

“Playa Del Carmen”

The Hacienda Vista Real was a nice hotel. We stayed in the Presidential Suite, which wasn't much more expensive vs a standard hotel room. We had a full kitchen, dining room and living room. Would not have liked the standard room. The pool is small, but not many people go to the pool. Breakfast was very good. The spa and fitness center is completely shut down. This hotel is on a golf course, not the beach. Read the description! The hotel itself was very nice.

“Our Mexican home away from home”

We chose to upgrade from their standard room ( nice room , but the upgrade to the suite was reasonable and gave us TONS of space ) .... we had a kitchen , living room , dining room , and a patio ..... absolutely gorgous and we could have lived there forever it was so amazing . The staff at the resort were fantastic and willing to accomodate any request we made . They happily provided us with patio furniture , a coffee pot , purified water for drinking , and reccomendations on places to see , activities to try , etc. The breakfast buffet that was included with our reservation was awesome ..... always had fresh fruit , juices , cereals , pastries , yougurts , coffee and at least 5-6 hot food items as well as the option to have "cooked to order eggs , including omelettes " . The pool area , where the buffet was set up is wonderful as well ... there is a pond overlooking the golf course just behind the resort and the birds , ducks , turtles are used to having people around and will be close enough to watch while you eat . ( some folks actually fed the ducks and turtles as well ) . If If you choose to not want to go far for supper or late night snacks , there is a small convienence store with a couple restaurants a few blocks away at the enterance to the gated community .... we at at the Bistro and had Mexican Empanada's ..... both were very good . In summary , I would reccomend this resort to anyone that is wanting beauty , relaxing , and charm !

Area recommendations
While staying at the Hacienda Vista Real we walked to town + the beach .... aprox. 20-25 minutes walk or a $5 cab fare ..... we enjoyed the 5th Ave. and side streets for shopping , went to Cozumel by ferry twice while there , and LOVED walking the beach , stopping for a drink or snack along the way , etc. We did take a bus to the Tulum ruins and beach area ..... would reccomend that ! We also walked to the Avairary near the resort ...... a bit pricey $22 to get in , but you could stay as long as you wanted and the birds were used to people so that you could get amazing photo's with no effort ..... there were benches to relax on and a Toucan actually sat down next to me ! If you're looking for a supper spot in town , try Karen's on 5th Ave....shrimp coctail was fantastic .... we felt that Senior Frogs was loud and expensive , but the 20 - 30 year old crowd was definately loving it ! You'll definately want to stop at "the Bistro" just up the street from the resort .... WOW ! Good prices , amazing pork roast , seafood , steaks , desserts , etc. If you just want to relax at the resort , there are places in town that do deliver and the front desk could help you to call . Finally , if you choose to go to Cozumel during your visit ... the Atlantis sub is worth every penny ...... we went down 121 feet , saw hundreds of fish , coral , etc... there is a little Corona sports bar and restaurant " with cheap beer and great food too ... the museum there is good too
Getting there
Set up transport to and from the airport BEFORE you fly there ..... it's an expensive 45 minutes with taxi otherwise .
Getting around
Easy walk to town .... the beach .... the ferry to Cozumel
What to pack
Swimsuits , shorts and t-shirts and sundresses ..... comfy shoes for walking ..... no need to actually dress up anywhere .
Shopping
5th Ave. is their main shopping area , but take time to go a block or two off the main drag for better deals ....... If you like jewelry and cut stones , a place called "Minerales" is fantastic in Playa ....
Outdoors or beach
the beaches at Play are better than Cozumel ...... take the trip to Tulum for the ruins and plan to hang out at their beach as well ........ beautiful long beach to walk on ...... palm trees , hammocks , amazing!

“A peaceful oasis”

The only unexpected thing was that the Spa was not open, which was disappointing. The hotel is older, but well maintained. The breakfasts offered varied to some degree every day, and were well prepared. The rooms were clean, and taxi service was readily available. Location is adjacent to the golf course, so it is quiet and away from traffic

“Nice place with more potential.”

Friendly staff attentive to guests. Room excellent and attractive but suggest installing security grab bars in shower/tub areas; needed for all, not just those insecure in their ambulation. Palapa reception very attractive but could be more so. Patch the holes in the thatch. More furniture for seating needed. More lighting for reading in that area--it is used a lot for that purpose. Set up a lobby bar off to the side. Plenty of room. Very needed because there is nothing to do there or nearby except at poolside. Should be a place for guests to congregate and get a drink. The spa! A unique place but don't advertise it if it is closed and essentially abandoned. It has much potential, but is kind of sad in its unused grandeur. One more thing: this is not a place for people who half walking problems. Hot tub not very good. If you are looking for a hot time, this is not the place.

Area recommendations
All of downtown. The beach, of course. And explore up and down the Mayan Riviera.
Getting around
A rental car is a great help. Town is about a half-hour walk away and one gets tired of that. Some can't even do that. What about a shuttle service?
What to pack
Don't need to dress up.
Dining
Very good restaurants everywhere in town. Never ate at the same place twice. All good. Seafood lovers delight and many Italian restaurants.

“Made our trip”

We were in Playa Del Carmen for 2 weeks and had booked our first week at the Hacienda Vista Real and a second hotel closer to town. We had not found many reviews on this hotel and were a little unsure of what to expect. The hotel is located in Playacar about a 20-25 min walk to 5th ave. The location was perfect for us, it was quiet, relaxing and safe (gated community with security 24hrs). Everyday we would have breakfast outside by the pool/pond and enjoyed the turtles that would come to visit every morning looking for food. The rooms were great. Very clean, extremely comfortable and had a nice bathroom setup. After our stay there was over we checked into our second hotel for the remainder of our trip and it was a big step down (but not in price, actually much more expensive). Although the location was great, the comfort, quietness and staff could not compare to the Vista real so we decided to go back. Best decision we made. The staff were incredibly friendly, extremely accomidating and made us feel like more than guest. Although the hotel is a little ways out of town we enjoyed the walk to town during the day and would grab a cab back at night if we were tired. All the tours had no problem picking us up here, in fact we were always the first dropped off which was great. There is a little bundle of awesome resturaunts not even a 5 minute walk from the hotel with and Axxo (convience store) spa and laundry all on the corner. All in all great stay at a great hotel

“Acceptable but not want to be back again”

GeneralIy good. It is better to clarify which room you booked. Room can be quite different condition even for same type of room. Rooms on lower floor is very dark without light from outside.
