“Sirenis - quite and serienity”

My family and I spent 8 days at the Grand Sirenis Riveria Maya over the Thanksgiving Holiday. My son who is 8 loved the lazy river, along with the rest of us. The hotel is set on a large property and everything is set apart from the other. It was a lot of walking but it was also nice because it did not feel like the resort was crowded. They have 3 pools and each pool has plenty of space. The staff was very courteous. We had an excellent time and I would highly recommend this hotel!!

“Mediocre - not the best”

General view of the hotel was ok - the staff was very friendly but the hotel itself lacked certain amenities such as Internet access in certain areas of the hotel and rooms (although it was paid for). The breakfast buffet was a disappointment but the dinner buffet was a little better. My bathrobe also had a red stain on it but the housekeeper didn't change it unless it was requested. My husband and I was there for our honeymoon package but was greatly disappointed that we didn't get a room upgrade - instead, they gave us a complimentary breakfast in bed, which lacked variety and wasn't very good and also a free El La Carte dinner at the french restaurant, which did not taste good either. Overall, our group had a good time but for the amount we paid, we had expected better amenities and variety.

Area recommendations
The excursions (Xplorer and Xel-Ha) was fun. So was the Coco Bongo show.
Must see
The excursions such as Xplorer and Xel-Ha was a lot of fun and a once in a lifetime activity. The Coco Bongo club had awesome performances although it was very very crowded. My group purchased the VIP tickets which gave us a little more room to dance and our own bar so we didn't have to wait in line for too long. This is definitely a must-see if travelling in the Mayan or Cancun.
Dining
The food at this hotel was mediocre - buffets lacked selection and I was very disappointed by the El La Carte dinners. We had better meals at the excursions!
Nightlife
The disco at our resort was fun only because we went with a large group of people - not really a couple's thing unless the club was packed, which usually wasn't in our case.
Events and shows
The daily shows was ok - I would instead spend the money at Coco Bongos and watch the real entertainment.
Other
The great thing about this hotel was the staff - they were all friendly and some came partying with us at the disco which was a blast!

“Family get away!”

The service was good, needed more food selections, the surroundings were nice, but the beach in town had nicer sand. I would go again.

“Looking forward for a second visit.”

The Grand Serenis personnel were pleasant from the minute we arrived. The quality of food was really good as well as the amount/locations of resturants. Many fish and species can be seen by snorkelling at the resort beach location.

“Worth it if only for the "All Inclusive"”

We chose this location because the hotel looked beautiful!! The "All Inclusive" feature was great but only if you plan to stay at the hotel for most of your trip. The quality of the hotel was great but the service not so much. The problem was their guidelines were very strict. If you weren't staying at the hotel you were not allowed on the property. And the problem with that was that we went to attend a wedding and some of the family was going to be staying at a different hotel. When we found out they couldn't even come in we started making arrangements for them to stay at the hotel. But even when they knew we went out of our way for them to stay they wouldn't allow them in until they received the confirmation through their services (even though we provided the confirmation #) It was very upsetting. So because the confirmation hadn't gone through my dad had to leave a large cash deposit so they could release the rooms. Then the bride needed the hair & make-up artists to come in to get us all ready but they wouldn't let them in w/out paying for a "day pass"...a pass they weren't even going to use!!! They also made a big deal when we removed our "RED" hotel armbands the day of the wedding. We were all dressed up & they wanted us to keep them on. How tacky. But again the hotel was very nice & the food was excellent but only go if you are going to spend most of your time there. The hotel is on the other side of Playa del Carmen so it can be a drive...

“Wouldn't go back...”

Didn't give us honeymoon package as promised, called us almost every day at 6am to try to get us to go to their timeshare "lunch with free gift" probably would have been more comfortable sleeping on the floor the bed was so hard, way under staffed, they would have 3 under paid people doing every job in the whole restaurant... Dripping in sweat just to get you a drink 10 minutes after you asked for it. We probably walked a good 15 miles, not exaggerating, on the resort alone in 6 days just to get to the beach, pools, and restaurants. And they have golf carts, but will not give you a ride to the road to get transportation!!! And it is 1/2 mile away!

Area recommendations
Playa del Carmen, you will pay $20 for a taxi ride to get here! And definitely go to the Mayan ruins! Life changing!
Getting around
Collectivo, Mexican public transportation, 300 pesos for 1/2 hr ride, or $20-30 US for a cab
What to pack
Hiking shoes, water shoes so you don't have to pay $40 for them.

“Great time was had by all!”

We traveled in a group of 11 including 6 adults and 5 kids ranging in age from 18months to 15 years old. We all had a great time. All inclusive is the ONLY way to travel with teenagers! A couple of us had been there several years ago and they had greatly improved the night life since then! We were happy with the food selection/variety for the most part. The specialty restaurants were not quite as good as before, but the buffets/snack bars were very good. Our only complaints were that the A/C in our room kept going into standby mode so our room was not as cold as we wanted it to be if we forgot to push the button. Also, the refrigerator in our room didn't get as cold as we wanted it too. The beach was really nice with great service while lounging, but the entrance to the ocean was kind of rocky until you got out a little deeper. Overall, we had a fabulous trip! The pools/bars/activities are wonderful! The staff was very friendly and helpful!

“No Service Hotel”

Having stayed at many of the Resorts along the Riviera Maya I must say this was the most disappointing. I have never been to a resort here where they staff looked so unhappy. Nobody smiled or said hello and often showed disdain when asked for anything. Nobody to greet or seat you at ,meals in the buffet. One Gold cart to take people to the lobby and buffet during rain storms. After waiting 1 hour we walked and arrived drenched but at least we could eat before the restaurant closed. There is no wireless internet. If you do not bring a cable you must BUY one from the. When I asked to send one to the room (again the lobby is miles away) they said they did not have this service. Food was fine, the facility is fine although very cold architecture. This place could be so much more if they trained staff and had the appropriate number available for a resort of this size.

“Good not great”

Grounds - The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The place was clean and the landscaping well maintained. Some of the building exteriors could use some touching up. This place is HUGE so you better bring comfy shoes, if you venture out of your room you will be doing A LOT of walking. They have golf carts, but you'll probably have to explicitly ask for them. Empty carts will constantly buzz buy you and leave you wondering, why didn't they ask me if I wanted a ride. Rooms - Our group had 2 rooms. 1 was horribly/mouldy musty I think it had been flooded. The ceiling in the bathroom was sagging and it had a dehumidifier in it. Another was very smoky, I don't think my friends got to choose non-smoking. The rooms were clean, but the comforters on the beds looked pretty worn an ratty. The showers have wall jets, but they are fairly clogged with mineral deposits so they don't spray like they should. The rest of the room seemed to be in good shape/working order Location - This is quite a ways away from Playa and Cancun. If you're planning to spend most of your time at the resort that's ok. If you plan to spend much time in PDC or Cancun, I would recommend looking and places closer. Food - You have to book the al la carte. Some restaurants are good, some are so so... If you don't have a strong desire to dress up and go to a sit down place where they bring you the food, I recommend the buffet at the main building, LOTS of choices and everything I had from there was good.

Area recommendations
I would recommed you go to Tulum to visit the ruins/beach. I would also recommend a visit to cozumel to rent scooters or a jeep and drive around the eastern side of the island.
