“good location and basic hotel”
I love the Hammock in front of the room.... the hotel is basic ...fare price..no blanket on the bed...though...but good location.
“Good Value”
We stayed one night at Barrio Latino and were pleased with our experience. The hotel was just off the busy tourist area, far enough away to remain quiet, and a only a few blocks from the beach. Parking was provided and the spaces were just outside the check-in desk so they were consistently monitored. The hotel was beautifully landscaped and had a pleasant courtyard area. The room was clean and brightly colored. If you are looking for mid-range basic accomodation I highly recommend this hotel.
“Quiet casual place. Great location.”
Free breakfast wasnt that great so i only took advantage of it twice out of my 7 days there. Hotel has a family warmth to it since the owner lives there too. The sounds vibrate when people talk loud so u can actually get disturbed by group talking loud. Morning the noise from the cups, dishes & spoons from the eating area woke me up. Rooms are basic. The maid & staff was nice and polite. I feel safe there. I love the hammocks infront of the room.
“Not imprest at allllllllllllll”
bad expiriance with arogant emploees.......never ever in this particular hotel. We are every month in Playa Del Carmen. And we never expirienced such low quality service.
“nice small hotel”
Very nice little hotel. A couple of blocks away from the busy 5th avenue and the beach. Wi-fi is good even in the room furthest from reception. The budget room had air con you can turn on for an extra $10 if required. The fan can enough for the two of us. Really liked that there was a little fridge that kept drinks extra cold and a hammock just outside the room. Always someone at front desk that knew your room number and would hand key before asking.
“Great Place and Location, Weird Smelling Bathroom”
I went down to Playa Del Carmen for a friend's wedding and decided to stay at the Hotel Barrio Latino. When I arrived there, i was greeted by the owner who was extremely friendly. He made me feel right at home and was quite hospitable. He had told me that they were still doing renovations and would put me up somewhere else if I decided I didn't want to stay around for the construction. His honesty left a very good impression with me and I decided to stay especially because the room had AC. The room itself was pretty good and all I really needed was a bed and that's what I got. The only problem I had was the wi-fi and the bathroom. Hotel BL states that they have wi-fi, but I could barely get any signal and my room was fairly close to the front desk. It was aggravating because I had to do work, but was unable to do so since connectivity was a huge issue. The bathroom had a weird smell to it and I hate to say, but it was almost like a poo smell. Maybe it was from outside or poor piping, but I always dreaded going into the bathroom. Also, you won't be able to flush your toilet paper down, but that is the case with a lot of hotels in the area and wasn't a big problem for me. The staff was extremely friendly and I was able to sit and chat with them every so often so I felt relatively comfortable. Overall, I would say the place gets a 3.5, but I rounded up to a 4. If they fix the wi-fi and the weird smell in the bathroom then I'd give them a 5 all the way.
“Nice little hotel, but not for everyone.”
The staff was friendly and professional, the bed was comfortable enough, and the location, only 3 blocks from the bus station, and one block away from Fifth Avenue, was great. However, travelers should be aware that it is not a quiet area, so if noise bothers you, you may not be happy here. With the air-conditioner on you may not hear much noise, but the air-conditioner itself is not quiet and they do not allow guests to adjust the temperature. The staff has to come in and set it with some remote control device they have. We were too cold the first night. We decided to try it without the air-conditioning the second night and that's when we heard the noise all night. If you like a big breakfast this is also not the place for you. They are very tight with the breakfast. ONE glass of juice, ONE cup of tea (or TWO cups of coffee), and ONE pastry. And because they apparently have some kind of septic tank system, there are prominent signs in the bathrooms saying NOT to flush ANY toilet paper, but to put it in the wastebasket next to the toilet. I was totally unprepared for that. I suspect it would be a deal-breaker for most Americans.
“Great little hotel”
We were very pleased with the facilities and service provided. The staff was excellent, and were interested in helping guests enjoy their stay. This secure hotel is conveniently located near the 5th Ave pedestrian street and only a couple of blocks from the bus station - also only minutes from the beach! Highly recommended.
“Barrio Latino-mixed feelings”
The room was small, but clean and comfortable. Check in was fast, friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was in a wonderful courtyard under a palapa, but was fairly basic-I am not a fan of bread or cereal and that was all they had: no fruit or eggs. The coffee was very good, and there was pineapple juice as well. Our toilet did not flush well at all(no, we did NOT put paper in the toilet-we used the wastepaper basket as they do in Mexico), and often multiple flushes were required. The hammocks outside the rooms were a nice touch, and there is also a quiet sunny sitting area out back. My main complaint regarding this hotel is the price. We found several hotels within a block or two that were either cheaper or had better features(bigger rooms, pool, etc.) for the same price. The staff was helpful and friendly.
“By the time we departed, felt like family.”
Our stay was unique as we were in room 17, the only one with a palapa roof and was sitting apart from the other hotel rooms. This is not a luxury hotel, so if that is what you are seeking - the Barrio Latino is not for you. There was no TV but the room was comfortable, had a safe and a comfortable bed. Enjoyed tour private hammock which is available with every room. Quaint courtyard with flowers on every table and made the continental breakfast all the more enjoyable. Hotel had a good cross section of international travelers whom we enjoyed meeting. The owners along with their two Cocker spaniels, Muffy and Lola were almost always there in the mornings to ensure we and the other guest were well taken care of. The location is a few short blocks from both the beach and the 5th Avenue shopping. We would go back in a heartbeat and in fact are making plans now for next year.
