“Friendly place - good location.”
We were recommended to stay in Playacar rather than Cancun and I'm pleased we did; it feels like a more classy and safe environment close to the shops etc of Playa del Carmen. The Allegro was a friendly, comfortable and very relaxing place to be with the family, though there were plenty of couples there too. The grounds were beautifully maintained and the size of the place was just perfect, though it was far from full when we visited (off season in Oct/Nov). The food and drink were plentiful and fresh (the omelettes at breakfast absolutely superb!) though maybe slightly repetitive. We are not usually ones for the entertainment but it was not too intrusive and our children (10 and 7) loved the shows...the performers were very talented and worked SO hard! The only disappointing aspect of the Allegro was the rooms. They were far too small for a family of four with practically no storage space for clothes. They were clean but the finishes were looking very tired and the quality just wasn't there. A misbehaving shower head and tiny shower screen were very irritating too if you wanted to get dry once out of the shower! Overall however, we had a great relaxing holiday and will return to the area again. I would probably recommend the Allegro to friends looking for a mid-range fairly good value hotel as long as they weren't easily put off by the rooms.
“A Good 2nd Visit”
Just returned from our 2nd visit to the Allegro with its beautiful grounds and charmingly polite staff. The best valued small resort on Playacar, no doubt. There's plenty of entertainment if you want it and lots of provision for escape if you want tours or simply want to take local buses. Everything is within easy reach. Critisisms are always aimed at the room size and the beach. No, the rooms are not spaceous but we only sleep in ours, and the beach, though not huge now after hurricane damage accommodates more than enough sunbeds and cabanas for those who want prefer the beach. How guests can level critisism at the catering is beyond us! There is plenty of choice. Menus change every day and theres theme nights at least 3 times a week. There's also a choice of 3 restaurants, two of which you need to book the day before. Re the time share sellers, if you don't fancy the concept or the 90 min hotel presentation & tour you can say no thanks. We all had a very relaxing time at the Allegro, 'met some really nice fellow guests from all around the world. Our boys(11 + 9)loved the kids club, pool games and nightly shows. We will certainly return again.
