“Past its sell by date but convenient for town”

Hotel was probably beautiful in its heyday - a grand old building with lovely grounds. Unfortunately it's all a bit past its best now and needs serious work. It was being redecorated while we were there....which we hadn't been warned about so that was not great - plastic sheeting all through reception and corridors, bare walls, etc. Breakfasts were good though and service was attentive, even when hotel was full. Very convenient location for walking into town at night.
