“What a shame!!”
It's my first visit to Brazil, and I am afraid the Copacabana Palace Hotel ruined my first experience with the terrible service at the poolside restaurant. Been to Hotel do Cataratas at Iguassu falls, the same Oriental Express group, but definitely different service. The check in at the copacaban was OK! If you are not staying at the main building and have to carry your own bags to your room, you will have very difficult time because of steps and long way to your room. My room, #255, appears to be renovated, but the closet wouldn't close easily. Because we didn't have breakfast and lunch, we were famished and went down to the restaurant. First time, no one came around for about 20 minutes, and we gave up and went walking the famous Copacabana beach. After coming back, we went back, again it took us more than 30 minutes just to get a bottle of beer. Ordering food was impossible task, and I felt so ignored and annoyed. We walked out and complained to the manager, but I am afraid I can't say anything good about the hotel. The service was even worse than the Pestana Rio Atlantico and Buzio Atlantico hotels. Only thing better was just building and room. Shame to be so called 5 star hotels since I have been all over the world giving talks at various meetings, but I have not ever to experience this kind of worst service!!!
“Good but expensive”
Room size, service, and location are excellent. Biggest drawback is street noise, its hard to sleep with all traffic noise. I was charged for using the coffee machine in the room, it is recommended that they put a price list next to coffee machine so that guests are aware that coffee is not complimentary.
“Classic Copacabana”
We drove up from Sao Paulo for a relaxing weekend in Rio and chose the Copacabana based on its great reviews - we weren't disappointed! Check in was very friendly and efficient, like a small boutique hotel. This was made even more pleasurable by the unexpected upgrade to a beachfront suite! Room service was excellent, and the concierge was equally happy booking restaurants and fetching churros from the stall on the beach front. Rooms are very comfortable, though the furniture and decoration is slightly dwarfed by the 4m high ceilings and don't expect much from the TVs. The Spa is fantastically opulent, with steam room and sauna (separate for girls and boys) - though a joint relaxation area. When we were there the steam room was amazing, but the sauna only tepid (problems apparently). Great hotel, and when they re-open the Cipriani restaurant in September we will be back.
“classic.... elegant... perfect!”
All was great as we excpected
“Check in on Sundays later than normal”
I have always booked this hotel. It has changed a bit during the last year, example, my room was on the first floor and I got locked 3 times in the elevator, it needs some updating. Hotel itself continues being nice just the expected service is lower than what it used to be in the past. A typical example, I got there at 2PM, I had to wait until 4:30PM. In the past they would at least offer either water, orange juice or coffee, now they offered just nothing, just told me to sit somewhere and wait, and had I not gone to the front desk at 4:30PM they would not have come and called me. This time I was not happy with the hotel, had I know I would have stayed at the Fasano but in the past I had always been happy.
“Security Issues external people bothering hotel guests”
Security Issues external people bothering hotel guests within hotel restaurant....surprising...for a 5 star hotel who is usual to have important political guests...
“If you like elegance this is it.”
The Copacabana Place is one of the most elegant and appealing hotels anywhere. The service is impeccable which combined with the hotel’s nostalgia and location front and center on Copacabana Beach leaves a truly memorable impression.
“Deserving of its iconic reputation”
I had a pleasant stay at the iconic hotel with generally friendly and helpful staff members. My stay was made especially pleasant by the very helpful concierge staff by the name of Maiko who made some good recommendations on restaurants to dine at as well as provided me with useful tips during my stay. My checking out experience could have been much better if the front desk staff, Livia, could have have been more helpful in providing me with change which I had intended to use to tip to the nice porter and especially the nice driver who drove me to the airport. In other hotels, upon checking out, the front desk would understand that I need the change in order to tip the porter and driver but Livia did not appear to care either way. Also, upon checking in, while others were getting the full briefing to the layout and facilities of the hotel, I had to request for mine but otherwise, my checking-in experience was relatively pleasant. I was given me an upgrade automatically but as the king bed was in fact twin beds put together, I had preferred the full king bed in a smaller room. Lastly, the hotel put a hold on the credit card I provided for deposit upon checking in for about a week after my stay (I had made final payment on a different card) and when I emailed and later faxed them, they did not bother replying. The hold has been released but just perhaps something others might want to know.
“Copacabana best hotel”
This hotel is called as the best in Rio. The service is of great quality. Personal is very helpful and kind. By the way the breakfast is fantastic! Beach srervices could be provided better.
“Great hotel but expensive”
The staff are very helpful, and our room with sea views was a decent size, unfortunately the two single beds weren't confortable at all. It is worth if you are spending two relaxing days by the pool, resting, etc, if not I wouldn't pay all this money to explore the city and using the room only for sleeping.
