“Do not consider it!”
Considering the quality of other Othon named hotels, this one is bad. The building is old, the beds need to be replaced as they squeek a lot, the windows should be replaced to muffle the outside noises, the elevators need to be upgraded, etc., etc. The only thing we liked, was the breakfast; it was included in the price and it had a lot of selection. Also, Felipe at the front desk made our stay bearable as he was very helpful with giving directions and advise.
“Good enough”
location is walking distance to the US Consul which is great if you have business there. If your room is ocean side then the view is great but traffic noise is a disadvantage; The elevator is manually operated by bell man and sometimes it feels forever waiting when he steps aside. Wireless Internet speed is alright. it'll cost you 25 BRL per day. breakfast is decent. lunch is buffet and options are not bad. Restaurant is close for dinner but you can order room service; Bed is average; The staff is wonderful; At least they try to serve. A few spoke some english. If your room floor level is 9 and up, then you have to take the stairs after 8th level.
“Good location for CBD but not necessarily for tourists”
The hotel is located in the central business disctrict area of rio de janeiro, which means it will be a good location if this is the purpose of your trip, however for a more touristy area I would recommend leblon or ipanema, both are 'safer' and upmarket areas and close to nice beaches. For the sambadrome this hotel would be closer than above mentioned areas, but generally you probably will only visit, so not the end of the world to travel for one night. The hotel was fairly basic, and there was no hot water for the 5 nights we were there (not the biggest issue in the world in a hot country). The room was on the 9th floor, lift available but often quicker to walk down than wait for the manually operated lift. Very nice free breakfast, and staff were pretty helpful (apart from sorting out our cold water situation). Our stay was during carnival (prices everywhere are sky high) so I felt that for the price the hotel did not deliver, however at a cheaper price the hotel would probably have been an ok option
“Bad for tourism, good for bussiness”
If you are a tourist you should not go with this hotel, you need to take long bus rides and or taxi to get to the beaches and touristic sites. If you go to Rio on business it will be good since you are right there in the downtown area.
“Great location, friendly and reasonable”
Excellent location to downtown, metro, and Santos Dumont airport (where you get the 6 dollar bus to Galeo as opposed to the 50 dollar cab). Very friendly, helpful staff w/good English skills. Breakfast very satisfactory. Rooms facing the street, though, are very noisy. As in any big city, keep your eyes open after dark if on the streets, but the area feels pretty safe all in all. Five minute walk to the beautiful Cinelandia plaza & Metro station, smack dab the middle of Rio. I'll stay here again.
“Very run down, but great location for US Consulate”
I am not a picky traveler, but even I was unimpressed with the conditions of this hotel. It didn't really bother me, because I am a simple person with low expectations and not fussy. At first I thought it was quaint. But I really think the owner of this hotel should invest in it, at least to fix the elevator if nothing else. The keyring on our room key was all bent out of shape so the key kept falling off, and we asked the staff to fix it and they just bent it back into sort-of the right shape, but it still didn't solve the problem. If you ring for the elevator, you have to wait for someone at the front desk to go to the elevator and operate it for you, so if things are busy downstairs, it is better just to use the stairs to go down, or you will wait a very long time. On the other hand, the location is excellent for the US consulate, so if I were to need to go to the US consulate for an early appointment again, I might stay in the same hotel just because it's walking distance and that way you can avoid waiting in morning Rio traffic.
“an acceptable compromise”
The hotel is an older building but fairly well maintained... the staff was courteous and helpful. I found the breakfasts and the dinners quite good. The location was near banks and embassies, the main reason for my trip.
“Convenient provided that you are given a quiet room.”
Most of rooms loudly - busy streets and entertainment events for the whole nights. Our advice is that you ask for a quiet room. Otherwise, if not considered, never take advantage of this hotel. Marian from Poland.

“Ok for short stay”
This hotel is recommended for a short stay. The hotel is old and in need of modernisation. There are a couple of bars and cafes close by and transport is easy. The transfer bus from the airport stops outside and only costs 8 reals.
