For the price, especially for the world cup, it was great. It is clean, staff is helpful and friendly. Of course, it's only the basics, nothing luxurious and you share a dorm. Warm shower, clean bed, two big shared bathrooms, and there was no rush. But it's a great way to make friends, especially during major events like the world cup or Olympics. You can bring your kids and family and get a dorm for yourself. Niteroi itself is nice with good beaches. It is quieter and safer (than Rio). It is a bit far from Rio. But you can walk from the hostel mostly along the beach for 20 mins, and then catch a nice ferry to reach the city center (for R$ 5 or so), and then the metro. You can catch the ferry back, but I think the last ferry returns at 9 pm or so. If you stay on in Rio, you would need to catch a cab back. Cabs can be a bit expensive (around R$ 80 from Rio to Niteroi, during the world cup). If you don't know Portuguese (and Spanish), communication can be tedious. Bring your quick language guide.
We stayed here for one night only, and absolutely loved it. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They had a ton of dinner/restaurant recommendations and made a reservation for us at the seafood restaurant we chose (which was also wonderful). Then changed it for us because we were running late. The hotel has a "cool" factor inside with its decor. The pool area was a little tight but we had a good time. Spectacular view from up there. Our room wasn't huge but it seems like that is pretty standard in Rio.
After having stayed for every year for over 35 years at the Ouro Verde on Copacabana beach in Rio and due to change of management we decide to try something different. my wife had stayed once at The Caesar Park and thought we should try it. I stayed there earlier in November and was very happy. So I came back this week. Located on Ipanema, on the beach close to the center, and round the coirner to my favorite restaurant bar La Garota de Ipanema. Feel like our new new home in Rio
We spent three nights here arriving New Years Day 2014. Central location of the hotel made for easy access to plenty of restaurants and the beach was right across the street from the hotel. First two days we made our way through Copacabana and Ipanema on our own and on the third day, we arranged a tour of Rio for a full day's activities. The tour was arranged through our hotel, with pick up and drop off outside the hotel door. Our tour guide was great and we were able to bypass the very long lines (in 35-40 degree Celsius weather) for Sugar Loaf and Christ Redeemer sites. The tour included a great Brazilian style lunch within walking distance to our hotel. On the Saturday morning of sailing, we got a taxi through the hotel which was inexpensive and approximately 15 minutes to the cruise port.
Amazing experience, hotel staff were incredibly helpful especially during the carnival period, they recommended brilliant restaurants and had answers to all of our questions. The hotel was beautiful and spotlessly clean. Set right on Ipanema beach in a very safe part of town, couldn't have asked for a better hotel.
