“Nice Hotel, short walk into town”
Nice hotel, short walk into town. Room adequate size, cleaned daily.
“Location was great”
I was impressed with the Tia Hotel. I had a single room which was comfortable and much larger than other single rooms that I have stayed in. The gentleman at the front desk when I arrived was very nice and the night before I checked out the lady who was working the front desk let me sign into my yahoo account so that I could print my boarding ticket and check my email for my next hotel in Poland. The front desk was very accomidating and friendly. I did eat breakfast in the hotel one morning. It was just ok. I preferred to walk into town to find different things each day. There is a Russian pancake shop right across the street and that was fun to try. The location of the hotel is very convenient. I took the airport express shuttle for 3 Lats to the Albert Hotel and then walked a couple blocks to the Tia. The neighborhood felt very safe to me and I am a solo female traveller in my 30's. I did use the hotel's shuttle service for my return because my flight left so early in the morning. If you just walk down the street that Tia is located on you will reach Elizabetes Street where many of the art nouvea buildings are located. They are definately worth seeing. There is a Galleria between Tia and the old town and they have really nice free public restrooms on the very top floor. Also there is a Harry Morgan's which has a Tel Aviv salad that was to die for! I went there twice for this salad and both times the service and quality was fantastic.
“Could have done better”
this hotel is located well outside walking distance of central Riga. Two out of the three desk staff I encountered made it appear they would rather do something else than talk to me. The one bright spot of the experience is Alex who is the hotel driver. I used him for half a day and he was most courteous, involved and reasonably priced. the room looked tired.
“Near to' the centre”
Good quality/price ratio.
“budget experience”
You get what you pay here. Rooms where clean and comfortable but the hotel allowed smoking on the landings which was not nice at all. It is on the main road into Riga and can be very noisy with the traffic at certain times of day. It is about 20 minutes walk to the old town but there is plenty public transport. We went with a large group of friends expecting to be able to relax in the hotel bar each evening but it was closed for refurbishment, if we had known this we would have stayed elsewhere, nothing on the website to say this would be happening. We also had to have breakfast in the conference room because of this which was ok but not good for a relaxing start to the day. We did have a great time because of the group we were with but for a city break I would choose a hotel nearer the city centre.
“Riga - Short Stay”
Everything was as I expected or beven better Only time to time I felt cigarette smoke from other rooms.
“Great for a break”
Great time in Riga, didn't meet any fellow Brits, only a few Germans and the Russians you meet are nice. Top tip. befriend a local and get local taxi rates and then keep your driver over the stay. the beach at Jurmala is must and is only 16 lats at locals rate. don't go to the bars opposite the madhouse as you will get ripped off.
“Great Value Hotel”
Tia Hotel was a great value. The hotel is a bit out of Old Town, but in a 15 minute walk you are there. The neighborhood of the hotel looks very Communust-block, but since we weren't planning on staying in the room, it didn't matter. Our family of three had two bedrooms, allowing for our daughter to watch her own TV and us parents to have our own quiet time. The rooms were cleaned every day and the decor of the hotel was recently updated. The staff was very helpful with our questions and helped us find the best places to visit. We would definitely recommend Tia to any business and family travellers planning on visiting Riga and not staying in their hotel.
“Incredibly Convenient”
It was only a short trip that I took, but the stay was awesome! I had no trouble checking in at all. The only thing that bothered me a little was the elevator. One of them didn't quite completely close (and they're also really small). Really well stocked mini-bar... it's the first European hotel I've seen that stocked Corona beer. The breakfast was good. It wasn't very big, but there were both hot dishes and a variety of meats and cheeses and bread. When I went to ask about the hotel shuttle, the man also provided me information on some other options. Since I was traveling by myself, the room was just the right size. The bathroom was kinda small, but the heated towel rack was an added bonus! The hotel is no more than a 20 minute walk from Old Town, and there's a little convenience store in the basement of a building on your way to Old Town that's perfect for snacks when you start out or when you're on your way back.
