“Quirky, charming and great value”
The Man-Tess is a small hotel very close to Riga Old Town Centre and a 5 minute walk from the bus stop (Route 22 goes to the airport in about 20 minutes). There are no amenities and only a few bedrooms - apparently all different. I had room 51 which occupies the whole of the top floor. It was absolutely huge with the bedroom separate from the living area, in immaculate condition with excellent lighting and tastefully furnished. Choice at breakfast was limited but well prepared (cold meat, cheese, eggs, yoghurt) but there were no rolls, only sliced bread. The staff all spoke adequate English and were polite, efficient and helpful but not the cheeriest bunch (smiling does not seem to feature high in the list of Latvian characteristics). In summary, I would be surprised if you could get better value anywhere in Riga. If you can do without pool gym and room service stay here - you will be missing out if you don't.
“Riga's Best Boutique Hotel!”
Called ahead and was given easy to understand directions. Easy walk from bus stop and is centrally located. Good surrounding neighborhood with reasonably priced restaurants nearby. Staff was very helpful in giving directions. Very attractive exterior with first class lobby and breakfast area. Good breakfast selections. I am a light sleeper and was pleased to discover that my room was whisper quiet along with having a comfortable bed. Has modern elevator and great quality bathrooms. In the past I have stayed at other Riga hotels but, in the future Man-Tess will be my first choice!
“Fantastic hotel”
Hotel Man-Tess is a lovely hotel in an ideal location to access the old town, Our room was very big and nicely furnished with wood panelling and a four post bed. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was plentiful. All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a hotel with a "local feel" rather than the modern multi national chains. Riga it's self was lovely though the tempreture was minus 20 (February 2011) when we were there. The river had frozen over, but the snow added to the pitcuresque old town. There are many olde worlde and modern coffee shopes and taverns. We also took the train to Jurmala, where the sea there was completely frozen over as far as the horizon. The train journey is onlt 30 mins, and it was well worth visiting just to see the large beach resort completely frozen and covered in snow.
“Value for money”
Value for money. Good location. Clean rooms and very good bathroom.
“not sure why others liked this hotel”
I can't figure why there are positive reviews for this place. I booked my stay based on the expedia reviews and it was the worst hotel we stayed in during 5 weeks travelling all over Europe. The pillow cases and bed sheets in our room had hair all over them, even though we had been waiting in the lobby downstairs until they cleaning person was supposedly finished cleaning. The towels in the bathroom had blood on them. The locks on the door are terrible and there was no safe in the room. The room had no soundproofing so we could hear the neighbors listening to music. Street noise was incredibly loud with drunks from the bars yelling all night. Only positives about this place are location close to the bus station and airport bus and the breakfast. Not worth the low price. And don't book an airport taxi at the hotel. They charge $10 Latvian which is about $20 US. The bus stop to the airport is maybe a 5 minute walk from the hotel and costs $1. The bus ride only took 20 minutes. Buy a regular ticket for 50 cents Latvian at any of the shops called something like Narvesan. There is one by the bus stop and they take credit cards too.
“A gem”
A great little hotel. The room was spacious and very well-appointed, with lots of wood. No air-conditioning, but a table-fan was supplied. Breakfast was sumptuous and the staff were helpful. The free wi-fi didn't work too well in the room, but was fine in the lobby.
“An excellent boutique hotel in the old city of Riga”
A excellent small hotel right in the centre of the old city ofRiga.
“Excellent location to visit Riga!”
A great boutique hotel that is has wonderful character. Great room at very top floor used to be a board room. Now a two room suite with lots of space! Delicious breakfast buffet with personal wait staff. Not a place to be missed.
“fabulous little hotel”
The hotel lobby was fun - a koi pond and two parakeets and a little stone bridge to the elevator. The room had hardwood floors and wooden built-ins; very nice. Very convenient location, too, right in the old part of the city, which is a beautiful city, by the way.
“Great location, loved the budgies by lift”
Great location, shopping centre near by, helpful staff, but lift doors didn't always work, had to close doors by hand, hot water was a bit dodgy, sometimes there was no hot water, told staff but nothing was done about it, very clean hotel and breakfast was basic but good - lady serving breakfast was very polite and kind and very smiley for a change. Would i reccomend hotel? Yes, but only if you were not too fussy!
