“Good hotel well placed to make the most of Richmond”
This is an old building but the rooms have been refurbished to a godd standard. Its sister hotel, the Richmond Gate has a health spa with better than hotel average laned pool and better than hotel average gymn with mix of running, rowing and other machines in good numbers. You can easily walk into Richmond but as the name suggests the hotel is at the top of a hill so bear this in mind for the return. Shouldn't be an issue if you are reasonably healthy. Beautiful views across London from the nearby Park.
“Excellent value”
Bedroom on the small side but quiet & clean
“Good overnight booked at last minute”
we only booked accom so used no facilities other than the room, which was small but with plenty of space for travellers' 'stuff'. It suited our purposes very well being clean and well run, and minimal noise from other rooms. Hotel had also met my request re position of room which was pleasing.
“Superb Location, Quality but not Exceptional Hotel”
My girlfriend and I booked here for a romantic Valentine's treat in Richmond. The location is superb, with the famous view of Richmond Hill across the road, and the largest London Royal Park a short walk away. Richmond itself is one of the most special and charming parts of London, with an exclusive feel and sense of detachment from the city centre due to its proximity to beautiful nature. We had booked a Standard double room, in the hope of getting a view over Richmond Hill. This was not the case (it is a large hotel, with a limited amount of rooms looking over the Hill, most of which are the more expensive suites - so do not expect that view unless you specifically request it) but when I asked whether it would be possible to switch rooms with that view, I was upgraded to a Superior room at no extra cost as that was not possible.The staff were very friendly, although a couple of times we made requests over the phone that were not followed up. The lobby is extremely plush and welcoming. Regarding the rooms, if we had stayed in the Standard room I think we would have been disappointed given the 4* rating and price per night. That it was because it was pretty small and unexceptional in terms of décor. The Superior room was more satisfying (but part of the satisfaction was getting it for free, so I don't know if having paid more for it we would have been convinced it was good value), and perfectly comfortable - but not luxurious. A great quality, but not exceptional hotel.
“Below par”
While the room was clean and well presented there were a number of issues I would not have expected in a four star hotel: Permanently leaking shower No light bulb in bedside lamp No luggage rack Kettle positioned inside a cupboard such that it had to be brought out to a bedside table to be plugged in Very awkwardly placed loo roll holder due to confined size of bathroom
