Our experience was mostly good, the room clean and comfortable, however we had asked for a quiet room on arrival, which we did not get .
Two lights were not working, neither was the bathroom extractor fan,but we did not know this until we retired for the night.
The staff and service was friendly and efficient,we enjoyed a well cooked and presented evening meal in pleasant surroundings. Breakfast was equally good with ample choices.
When we were asked about our stay, the staff and manager were very considerate and concerned to put things right. We felt that we were listened to and very fairly compensated for the problems we had had.
We would definitely recommend and use this hotel again.
My initial reaction on arriving was one of disappointment however having spent the last three nights there my feelings have changed. The young couple that run the pub and their staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. They have only been in the pup for five months but have already changed the atmosphere from one catering mainly for young people to one suitable for all ages and families and this is reflected in the people you see in the bar. We didn't eat there in the evening but the quality and choice of breakfast was of a high standard and plenty of it. Whilst the room was fairly basic it was clean and of a reasonable size. They have plans to upgrade their rooms this year.
To summarize, if you want a posh room pay 2 or 3 times the price and go somewhere else if not then the friendly staff, atmosphere and location makes this pub an ideal place to stay. I would use it again and recommend it to friends.
"Helpful staff, problems dealt with satisfactorily"
It has had some poor reviews which I saw after I booked, so was concerned. However we had a nice stay - there was some problems with the plumbing which due to bank holiday could not be fixed, we where offered a couple of acceptable options, and opted with staying with the larger family room and using the bathroom in the smaller alternative room - as our son is a teenager so the space was important. The part refund was very welcome and felt generous compensation as we had booked it as a last minute deal. Nice breakfast, helpful and friendly staff, nice room and convenient location. We didn't eat our evening meal there preferring to explore Richmond We saw the staff being very helpful to other guests who has arrived at 10pm after they had stopped serving evening meals, helping them order a take away and setting a table for them.
My wife and I were staying just for one night as we were cycling the Tour de France Route - Terry and Hannah were so friendly and helpful. Bike storage wasn't a problem, storing our luggage for somebody to pick up later wasn't a problem, in fact nothing was too much for them. They were perfect hosts in a wonderful place.
If you want a Premier Inn, or a Vintage Inn style pub then don't go here. This is a great traditional British pub with real character and indeed characters running it.
We arrived and were welcomed by one of the pub's owners and taken to our lovely large room with high quality oak furniture and a large ensuite shower room. The room was well equipped with a proper tea/coffee station and plenty of supplies.
The evening meal was in the pub and fantastic value for money and extremely well cooked. Piping hot, on a hot plate (I hate luke warm food). My Ribeye steak was cooked to perfection and served with home made chips and fresh veg.
We spent an enjoyable evening talking with one of the owners who was far more entertaining than sitting watching Britain's Got Talent, she really should write the book she talked about...it would be a best seller.
We slept well and had plenty of hot water in the morning. Breakfast was cooked to order and again a high standard with a superb selection of Jams & Preserves.
I can't fault the character, quality or value for money. Sadly these style Inn's are disappearing fast as we become a chain franchised plastic mediocrity. We need to retain these places as part of our heritage and not turn every wonderful village pub into a gastro chef pretentious and expensive restaurant.
If you want to see what British pubs should be like then go to the Four All's near Richmond for a warm and friendly welcome and service. Brilliant.
