“Great place to stay”

We enjoyed our stay at the Berkeley and found the staff very helpful. The offer of an upgraded room upon arrival got our stay off to a good start. It is very clean and well maintained with the exception of some wearing on upholstery. The excellent location allowed us to walk to restaurants and points of interest.

“Good choice for Downtown Richmond.”

Stayed for 1 night on a Saturday. Very convenient & close to all the main restaurants & places to see in downtown. The staff was very nice & the room was comfy. Don't pay for valet parking, there's a public parking place about a block from hotel on the ramp by I-64. We paid $4 overnight and it's safe. For breakfast/brunch there's a cool restaurant about a block from hotel on East Cary St. called Urban FarmHouse Market Cafe which is a lot cheaper than eating at hotel. Overall, very nice place to stay. Just make sure you get a good deal on Expedia or other travel websites. Don't pay full price.

“Helpful and Friendly Service, Beautiful Place”

A group of 6 of us stayed in 3 rooms and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The valet service, bellman and front desk staff were very helpful and friendly, giving us local dining suggestions and greeting us by name. Check your parking bill, though, because they accidentally billed one member of our party for the entire valet parking fee. We got room service and they were very prompt and friendly and quick to bring us an extra coffee cup and more cream for our coffee. All 3 of us were on different floors but directly above eachother, facing a nondescript wall, which I think is because we paid a reduced rate than their normal rate if you book on their site. Not a big deal, but I would have liked to have a terrace/balcony as shown on their site. One small disappointment was that there is no fridge or microwave.

Area recommendations
This is in Shockoe Bottom in downtown and there are many places to eat just outside the hotel doors. Later, we wished we had gone to Cary Street as well to stroll and have cocktails at numerous places instead of the very pricey places on Broad St.

“Beautiful hotel in inconvenient location”

THis was a beautiful hotel in what appeared to be a very quaint area. However, it was a long way from the centre of the city - actually I don't think I ever found it. I arrived in the evening- the train station is a $30 trip into Richmond. The next day was a public holiday- nobody told me( a negative for the hotel) & nothing was open. So I would not recommend a visit to Richmond, but if you have to go the Berkley Hotel is very comfortable with reasonable rates . The downside is the distance from places of interest.

“VERY NOISY”

Everything was good about this hotel with the exception of the noise level from the street - we were on the third floor and had difficulty sleeping because of the noise. Request a room that is not on the street side.

Upscale basic. Beautiful room, wireless, basic cable TV, no fitness on site, safe area, very service-oriented staff, superb chef. Loved it.
