“Different and Charming”
My husband and I were in town for a concert at the coliseum and were pleased to find out that we could get there with the free shuttle available until 10:30. The concert was over too late in order to return with it, so we walked. We were "upgraded" to a bigger room with a street view of the public library and two full sized beds instead of a garden view room with a queen sized bed which I found a little odd. Nonetheless the room was very nice and worked for us. I wouldn't want to stay in that room for an entire week as the street noise could get to those with sensitive ears, but I'm sure a garden view room in one of the smaller buildings would be great. The bathroom was extremely nicely appointed with big, fluffy towels, but it was a little dark in the shower area. The breakfast area was very nice and provided everything for a continental breakfast plus make-your-own waffles. They have a nice living room-type space in the main building for relaxing, chatting or reading. I would definitely return there and I'm sure it's absolutely lovely in warm weather in the courtyard area.
“great experience for my grandchildren”
I took my 3 grandchildren to the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert in Richmond. I wanted it to be a special experience so I went looking for a hotel that was not just stamped out like a cookie cutter. I found the Linden Row Inn. It was everything I hoped for, history and grace from a time gone by. Even the 7 year old was impressed. Every one was very friendly and warm. Yes, it is old but it has aged gracefully. Its grace and charm really added to our trip.
“Linden old world charm”
Clean, quiet and charming as well as historic. Would highly recommend.
“not unless everything else is booked up”
keep looking.booked two nights and decided to leave after one. theres more choices in this area
“Not bad.. Funky old city hotel!”
I had a decent stay at the Linden Row. It is an older style hotel that has been upgraded. My room was fine. It had the needed comforts for a one night stay. I choose it for the price and the convenience to VCU.
“Historic feel, friendly staff”
I stayed in this hotel while attending a conference in another downtown hotel. The conference hotel was the typical large, boringly modern hotel. Linden Row Inn was a nice contrast - smaller, boutique-like, charming. It really has an authentic historic feel to it, columns, wood, bricks, inner garden, beautifully furnished common area. While the continental breakfast was basically similar to what you can get in a three star chain hotel, it was served in a beautiful room with original art (some if it quite modern), on tables with white linen tablecloths, white ceramic dishes and cups and real silverware - no TV in the background blasting the news, but a quiet, elegant atmosphere. True, there are details that show a bit of shabbiness and decay (a few torn carpets for example), but I was glad I stayed here instead of in the more modern and impersonal conference hotel. It felt like I really was in history-rich Virginia. PS: The staff was very helpful and friendly. The free shuttle to anywhere downtown was a great plus.
“Lots of Character”
The exterior of the hotel could use a good scraping and painting - the condition gave me qualms as I arrived. Inside, however, the hotel is extremely clean and the historic flavor, from the layout to the furniture and furnishings makes up for the slightly frayed first impression. This is a genteel Southern lady on slightly hard times. The authentic period furnishings helped fire my imagination about the events that took place here in the late 1800's. The hotel staff was very courteous, prompt and professional and they provided several excellent dining options within walking distance. The bathroom was updated with excellent towels and amenities. The sheets on the comfortable bed could stand replacing.
“Great surprise”
Real brass keys and actual "glass" glasses. Linden has the feel of a bed and breakfast. Good cont. breakfast and very helpful front desk. Richmond is a city with a lot of great Civil War history. Linden, Carytown and Richmond--big, pleasant surprise.
“What a Dump!”
I prefer older properties that have some history and charm and am fully aware that they might not be as comfortable as newer ones, however this place is just run down and a dump. It's near downtown which is a ghost town. They say it's "up and coming but all I saw were sad empty buildings. The entire property is very run down. I stayed one of the hottest days of the year and the a/c was barely working.
“modest, clean, safe and convenient”
modest, clean, safe and convenient, I'd consider staying there again in my next visit to Richmond, VA.
