“Best thing downtown”
I travel to Richmond periodically for work, and I now make it a point to always stay at the Commonwealth. It is very convenient to all the downtown business and the capital. The 24 hour valet parking makes parking downtown easy. The staff is always very friendly. The rooms are sparse but clean, and have everything you need. The in room refrigerator and microwave are a nice touch. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.
“Perfect for my purposes”
The amount of space was outstanding in our suite. Unlimited Internet access was also a plus (and a mandatory option needed for this professional). Bath was clean and spacious but I've yet to understand why not a single hotel has paid any attention to the fact that I dutifully hang up my towel to re-use it to help the hotel stay "green" yet every singe day a new towel took its place!
“Good value, large rooms, but only valet parking if you can't find a street spot”
Suites are quite large and nice. Sparsely adorned. People are friendly. No parking other than valet parking (but we found an overnight spot on the street outside the hotel. The refurb of this old hotel seems to have skimped on wall insulation. Party in the next room at 3:15 a.m. was enough to wake a heavy sleeper, but a call to the front desk got immediate remedial action. No breakfast included, but good hot buffet in the lobby restaurant for about $11 ($7 cold). Quite a bargain if looking for a downtown location.
“Nice but loud”
The room was great! Very comfortable, but there were three large generators running in the street during our stay that were really loud. However would still recommend the hotel, a neat old place with really nice staff.
“Commenwealth Park Suites”
I stayed at this hotel for the weekend because I had a class at the Greater Richmond Conference Center. They hotel service was excellent and the valet fee was not aweful to ensure my vehicle and contents were safe. Our room was moderatly clean but could require some upgrades to enhance the comfort. You could tell the cleaning went through quick and missed some small things. The walk to the convention center was almost a mile. I would not recommend this walk alone or late at night but overall I had a good experience in Richmond.
“Served the purpose”
located in middle of government buildings. Set up for business travellers.
“It was ok for our needs”
We researched hotels near "The National" in Richmond and this hotel was the least expensive of them all. It's a bit old and small and has two tiny elevators that take a while when the hotel is full, but it's within short walking distance of The National and acceptable for our needs. The staff were all very friendly. Our room had two double beds, a bidet (didn't use) and unfortunately, no view. To get a view of the State Capital across the street, you need to book a suite on the top two floors. Valet is $12 per night added to your bill. We ate lunch at the 3rd street diner for $4.95 you get an incredible AYCE buffet. On Monday, go to the Capital Ale House for $2 half pound burger night and also on Tuesday for their steal the glass night. Lots of things in walking distance. We had a good time and would go back.
“Good price for location”
Hotel was chosen at the last minute and it was a good price for that fact. Near Capitol but pretty isolated surrounding community. Continental breakfast not included, although they did have free internet (in rooms) and printing (downstairs). Bidets in the rooms - wow. Very tiny fitness room! But would stay there again if in town.
“mostly pleasant stay...”
Location was great, service was very friendly. Disappointed, however, that breakfast was not included...
“not near as good as the pictures look”
old and needs updateing
