“Older hotel, charming but needs some updating”

This hotel is quite old, but not run down. The reception area is in need of a facelift to bring it back to its former glory. The hotel room itself was lovely and was renovated to its original art deco style while adding modern amenities. The room size was perfect and the bathroom was great. The front desk staff was almost invisible, preferring to keep to themselves in their business office. We would have to wait while they finished paperwork until they got up to give us our key or answer any questions we had. They are located near the train station, although we didn't hear any noise. It was awkward to find the hotel and to park the car afterward.

Area recommendations

Lyon was lovely. I would highly recommend visiting this city. They are in the midst up sprucing up a few piazzas but this didn't cause an inconvenience. Visit the Cathedral St. Jean, spectacular. Had a great dinner at Le Sud. We felt safe walking around the city at all hours.The shopping in the town is plentiful and was surprised at how low the prices were for leather goods, especially shoes.

“Very satisfied.”

I very much enjoyed my stay. I walked down the river to the old town and also up the hill above the old town for a view over Lyon. I would return to this hotel if I ever return to Lyon. It was a good value for the money. The room was clean and I felt the hotel and the surroundings were safe. They also allowed my dog for a small fee. I actually wish I had stayed there longer.

Area recommendations

Walk along the river and cross about the third bridge to the old town. Also, walk up the hill across the river for a great view over Lyon. I did not get a chance to truly explore the city and wish I had.

When to go

I visited Lyon in early September. I stayed there on the way to the Cote D'Azur and then on the way back to Germany on a second night. I wish I had more time to truly explore the city. I had one sunny day and one rainy day. I managed to get to the old town in between rain showers on the rainy day. It was worth it.

“very convenient to train and old town”

The hotel is very convenient to the train and metro. The lobby has a charm of a bygone era. The standard room is clean and basic. The room was a bit small.

Area recommendations

I would recommend seeing the Cathedral and Old Town for the history and charm.

“Great hotel; Good location; Big standard Room!”

Room was very clean and huge for a standard room. It made it easy to travel with a 9 month old as they provided a crib, linens, and a baby package with creams, towels, etc. The baby also had a lot of room to crawl around. Location was also great as it was right by the Perrache Train station and on metro line which made it easy to both walk to all main destinations and then simply take metro back home at night. All staff was very courteous and accommodating. Would definitely stay again.

“Old-fashioned railway hotel is grand but worn.”

This is an old-fashioned railway hotel located adjacent to a train station. Its a bit difficult to get to but is central and, of course, convenient to the train station. Its a place that is past its prime but good value. Its grand but worn and a bit shabby.

Area recommendations

Les Halles de Lyon is a great place to have lunch or dinner. We ate at Maison Rousseau — very good. Public transit is very good and well integrated. The view from the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière is great.

“Love the Grand Perrache”

Great old world charming hotel. On the edge of the historic district, but worth the walk for the value and unique experience. The breakfast dining room was exquisite. The deluxe room was large, high ceilings, marble fireplace and French doors with views of the basilica. Great experience compared to staying in your typical sleek modern hotel and we're from Manhattan. Would go back – same hotel, same room.

Area recommendations

Get the Lyon visitor card that includes admission to various tours, museums, transportation, etc. It's a great value and great way to see all of the city. The views from the top of the basilica are amazing. The historic center and river fronts are beautiful.

“Not impressed,”

The hotel is passable. The air conditioning was not enough to cool the room and due to the train station across the street, you could not open the window. so do not stay there when its hot.

“Nice place to stay in Lyon”

Nice hotel, built in 1905 but well kept. Room was on a fifth floor, it was clean and huge. Hotel is located right at the train station and a short walk to restorants and old part of the city. Highly recommended.

“Great hotel for the price”

comfortable room with some nice touches, but overall the hotel has definetly seen better days. the staff was very hepful.

“Nice hotel and less expensive than others in the 4-star category”

This grand old hotel was convenient for arrival by train as it is right next to the Lyon Perrache train station which is also the Perrache subway stop. The lobby and breakfast rooms are gorgeous. Our superior room had nice tall ceilings, art deco furniture and was comfortable and clean but could use an update as it felt spartan. The best feature was the air conditioning which was a great relief during our July stay. The bathroom was a large size for Europe. The breakfast served by the hotel was nice with many choices of cereals, meats and breads. I would also recommend having dinner at the Brasserie George which is just a few doors down from the hotel. The food was good and the art nouveau decor felt like it was right out of the 1930's and 40's.

Area recommendations

The Vieux Lyon area would be a great choice as it is the most charming and beautiful section of Lyon and is where we spent most of our time when exploring the city.
