“Great service, fantastic food”
We stayed in the Hotel Le Royal, Lyon for 4 nights in November 2011. The hotel is located centrally next to the place Bellecour and, if you are coming in from the airport, you can access Bellecou via the Rhone Express (get off at Vaulx La Soie - we travelled to Gare Part-Dieu and got a taxi to the hotel) and the Metro station in the square. The room was comfortable and had a view over the Rhone River. To be honest, we didn't spend that much time in the hotel as we were only there a short time and wished to explore the city and sample it's culinary delights (of which there are too many to mention them all). The city has a number of fantastic restaurants and the hotel were more than happy to arrange bookings and assist with directions and local information - the hotel staff excelled and provided such great service - even managed not to wince when I mangled my way through the French language. We did eat in the hotel restaurant on the last night and it was a superb meal and everything you would expect from the Institute Paul Bocouse. The only negatives, and they were minor, would be that one morning (out of four) the shower was cold and the dining room was could've been warmer, but I wouldn't let these minor things put anyone off because there were many more positives.
“Perfect for our requirements”
We would return to this hotel.
“Good location”
This hotel is in a very good location with shopping and restaurants on the doorstep. Also hop on hop off bus and tourist facilites very near.
“Lovely in Lyon”
My husband and I had a comfortable stay in this charming boutique hotel, well-situated in the Bellecour area of central Lyon. The desk clerks and concierge were very helpful in making arrangements to garage our rental car or make reservations at a local restaurant. The toiletry amenities are first class. A couple of things to mention: the hotel does not offer currency exchange; there are Change bureaus within an 8 minute walk from the hotel. The room itself could use additional lighting for reading in bed. The logon process for WiFi was not as instructed by the front desk over the phone. I finally went down to the lobby with our Netbook and we figured it out. Suggest they furnish correct written instructions in each room. We had a nice meal in the hotel restaurant, a training institute affiliated with renowned chef Paul Bocuse. The service left a bit to be desired as our waiter never reappeared to pour our wine. The food was tasty but not spectacular.
“Great hotel and in the best location”
I researched a number of hotels in the Lyon area before deciding on the Le Royal Lyon. The location is fantastic for the vacationer. It is located at the corner of the town's main square and at the foot of La Republique, a major shopping street. Most restaurants in the city are within a 10 minute walk, as is the old town for sites. Also, it is located directly across the street from the metro station. Further, the hotel staff was great and bent over backwards by calling >20 restaurants to set up reservations for me. The room was clean and spacious, by European standards. The bed was a little stiff, but it had great comfy sheets. I highly recommend this hotel for its location and its price/amenity ratio.
“Youri”
We were pleasantly surprised by quality of the hotel because one of the MGallery hotels we stayed before Intercontinental in Zurich was more like an inexpensive road side hotel, rather than a luxury hotel as it is promoted by Expedia and MGallery.
“Luxurious!”
Wonderful hotel. The bed is the best part; you almost don't want to leave it!!! But, being right on Place Bellecour, you have to get out and see Lyon. Excellent location! My only complaint is that the room service menu is practically non-existent, despite the fact that the hotel bills itself as having the kitchen at the heart of its service. But, a small complaint, since there are so many great places to eat nearby.
“Very Good Hotel”
The Royal's location on the Place Bellecour is perfect, in the heart of the older section of town (hence, a brief walk from all the main shopping lanes and many restaurants), and just across the street from the Metro (which by the way is very easy to use and gets you anywhere you need to go as a tourist in Lyon). If you are not familiar with Lyon, I cannot overstate to you how good a location this is; any other location would be a considerable step down in convenience (from a tourist's point of view). The room was well-furnished and quiet, and I especially liked the bathrooms which were fully-modern but had a slightly retro look. Staff were all very nice, and the breakfast setup was reasonable for the price.
“Great hotel and staff”
We loved the feather bed and the little sweets left on our bed stand every evening. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Ate one breakfast there and the yogurt was to die for! We enjoyed walking the streets of Lyon and the great restaurants. We would highly recommend this hotel.
“Lyon hotel excels”
The hotel was in an excellent location, right on the Place Bellecour. The staff were extremely professional and everything was well tended. The rooms are small, and although there is a closet, there is insufficient drawer or shelf space - but that was the only item we could find to comment on.
