“Excellent location and a simple/comfortable hotel”
The single room was comfortable and quite adequate for all that you would need a hotel room for. The location was excellent - so near to everything!
“Great small hotel”
I thought this was a really nice hotel. My room overlooked the theatre and plaza. The room was decorated nicely and had probably been recently updated. The location was fantastic...a block away from the Saone river and directly across from the beautiful Fourviere hill. There were also a lot of great restaurants to choose from.
“Hidden gem”
This hotel was positioned in a small street next to a lovely square close to the Celestine Theatre. There were a number of small bars and restaurants close by one of which, the Francotte was excellent - booking recommended. The surrounding neighbourhood had a wealth of quality shops, restaurants and cafe's. As a tourist the hotel was ideal as a base to explore the city. Only small complaint was the fact that the shower enclosure was a bit tight.
“Only Lyon”
We had a wonderful time in Lyon. Our hotel was situated close to three main bridges and we could easily access restaurants, cathedrals, museums and points of interest on foot. The hotel managers were helpful and had excellent recommendations for dinners. We were only there for a short while, we look forward to returning.
“Central, enjoyable, quiet and highly recommendable”
The Hotel initially is unassuming. However it was central and certainly perfectly placed for visiting Presqu’île (the area between the Rhône and Saône. Arriving at the hotel the staff were very helpful, welcoming and multi-lingual. Check in was quick and efficient and the room was "Classic" therefore the slightly more expensive option but if the budget will stretch worth it. It was slightly larger and more spacious than other rooms that we saw and faced the Place des Celestins - a charming square with little noise. The room itself was clean, and had everything that was necessary, mini-fridge, TV, telephone etc. The room had two goods sized beds and comfortable. The staff were also helpful in providing a detailed local map and help in pointing us in the right direction. We visited in July and went to the Opera in the open air Théâtres Romains de Fourvière which was spectacular – whilst you are up there its also worth visiting the Basilica. It is a must that you visit old Lyon - with its narrow and cobbled streets. The food although reputedly the Gastronomic capital of France was no better than good. I have eat better and restaurants tend to stop serving at 13.30 for lunch. Also the Musee des Beaux Artes is worth a visit lovely. All in all great fun.
“Geat boutique hotel in Lyon”
A great experience. Really good location, night staff on reception exceptionally helpful. We had a twin room and despite single beds, they were the best we slept in. Very cute boutique hotel and would recommend it.
“Beware the constricted space and storage of the single rooms!”
My only - but considerable - concern was the space constraints in my single room (No. 302 - my friend was in 402 and it was much the same). For example, there was no provision of a "trestle" for one's suitcase because there was no space for one. Having to keep it on the floor impeded one's access to other parts of the room. The wardrobe had minimal hanging capacity and there but could not be were no shelves or drawers to store other clothes and so on. Most absurdly, the one chair was placed between the bed and under the ledge bearing the TV but was unusuable . because it was not physically extractable While the constraints were just tolerable for a stay of 2 nights they would be vexatious for anything much longer.
“Just what I was looking for”
As a sole traveller I did not want to find myself in a run-down, remote or deserted part of Lyon in the evening. I wanted to avoid the chain hotels, and find somewhere relaxing but quiet for my overnight business trip, and near good restaurants and shopping. Hotel des Artistes was all this and more. Lovely room, quiet street and pretty square, central location in Presqu'ile so near the rivers for an evening stroll, wide choice of good restaurants within 5 mins walk in a bustling pedestrianised area, lots of couples, business people and groups of students about in the evening so I didnt feel anxious about walking around alone in the dark evening. My room was lovely, in a modern boutique hotel style, exactly as on the hotel website. There was some refurbishment being done in rooms on lower floors, so maybe the one review I read of a shabby room is now out of date. The staff were helpful and friendly, told me where to venture and where not to at night (ie south of Perrache station). The hotel has no bar or restaurant but that didnt bother me. I went out for breakfast 2 doors along to a pleasant cafe on the square. I would certainly go back for pleasure or business. I dont understand the review that said there wasnt much to do in Lyon - for a quiet weekend break of museums, strolling, eating out and window shopping, Hotel des Artistes and Lyon are ideal.
“Good location”
Everything about this small hotel was good. The staff were helpful and the room was small but adequate. The only problem was the internet service that was too weak in my room. I had to use the lobby to get the wireless signal.
“Excellent location and value”
The Hotel des Artistes is bright, clean, well run and ideally located on the Place des Célestine near the Rivière Soane in the Prèsqu'ile district. You can walk to all the major sites (although getting up to the Croix Rouge area is a puffer -- Suggestion: take the excellent metro up instead (1.60 Euro) and walk down) There is a plethora of good restaurants and cafés and excellent museums and shopping within blocks.
