“OK Lyon Hotel”

Rooms clean but small. Location a little far away from centre of the action. Close to railway station, though.

“Comfortable and wholesome”

The hotel is located on the Peninsula part of the city, close to the Gare Perrache. That's potentially useful if you have train journeys in mind, but Perrache station has fewer services than Gare Part Dieu. Some trains visit both stations. Works going on at the station but no impact on the hotel. Once through the station you are into Place Carnot and can enjoy city strolling and lots more. The immediate vicinity is OK - not threatening in any way but a mix of bars, cafes/restaurants - mostly ethnic and other retail and business operations. There are plenty of people about, so it is residential too. We had a "privilege" room at a small supplement. This was first floor, looking out over a side road with a park and church to view. Not noisy even with gentle church bells. Comfortable rather than spanking. Two twin beds, bathroom with shower over bath but efficient. High standards of equipment and cleanliness with a wholesome carpet. Air conditioning worked fine. Daily change of towels etc. Has an attractive inner courtyard with seats and flower containers overlooking car park. We had only one meal in the Hotel. That dinner was served in a smallish restaurant with a quiet atmosphere and relaxed service. Prices were reasonable. Breakfasts are euros 10 but we set off elsewhere - the station buffet was OK and a buffet rebuild was taking place there at Perrache. Service at the front desk was friendly, helpful and efficient

Area recommendations
The area around Place Carnot, just north of Gare Perrache might be ideal for getting around.
When to go
From late July to late August, lots of the locals depart elsewhere on holiday . So the city is quieter and some cafes etc are closed. Some plusses and some disadvantages.
Getting around
The metro and trams are clean, easy to use and efficient. Tickets costing euro 1.60 last for an hour and you can use them on both tram and metro train, and even the funicular to Fouvriere etc. You can get day long and week long tickets too. All sold at the machines by the entrance to the metro or on the tram platforms. We took a train trip from Gare Part Dieu to Aix les Bains. An attractive day out. Takes about an hour and twenty minutes. Tickets are cheaper mid morning and outside rush hours. Avoid the busy booking hall at Part Dieu - use Perrache or even pay on train - a bit dearer.

“Best value for money”

“Fine”

The hotel felt like it was looked after well. Basic but clean and fair value. Our room out the back was quiet. Close to one of the train stations but a bit of a walk from town. Tram stop right outside.

“bien situé mais bruyant”

dommage le matelas complétement creux et le gobelet de mégot sur le balcon de notre chambre "privilège" et triste qu'un 3 étoiles ne vous propose que du surgelé au diner!! petits dej' très bien

“France - Lyon - Best Western Hotel Charlemagne - consigliabile. No lusso ma pulito e confortevole.”

Hotel non centrale ma vicinissimo alla stazione Perrache e servito da tram T1 che va in centro (1 KM). Pulito e con piccolo parcheggio interno gratuito (6 - 8 posti ). Il quartiere pare tranquillo. Davanti si trova ristorante pizzeria Monna Lisa gestito da italiani emigrati. Sembra lussuoso ma non lo è e non è caro ma pulito con piatti italiani accettabili. A 1 chilometro si trova l'antico quartiere Vieux Lyon dal quale si può prendere la funicolare per la slpendida chiesa di Notre dame de Fourvière (panorama) e mezzi o anche a piedi per la zona fra i due fiumi Rhone e Saune.

“Séjour de Guignol à Lyon”

Nach zwei Tagen in Paris haben wir unsere Städtereise für zwei Tage in Lyon fortgesetzt. Das Hotel ist zentral am Bahnhof Perrache auf der Presqu íle (dem Zentrum). Straßenbahn hält vor dem Haus (sehr zu empfehlen und günstig, da 20 - 30 min Fußweg bis zum Rathaus oder Vieux Lyon). Bäcker etc alles nah bei (falls man nicht im Hotel frühstücken möchte). Wir hatten ein DZ 'privilegée' bestellt und bekommen: sehr ruhig, groß, man konnte sich dort gut aufhalten, Betten (Matratze) ausgezeichnet, Teekocher auf dem Zimmer. Es hat unseren Aufenthalt in Lyon sehr unterstützt.

“Best Western Charlemagne”

Hôtel très bien situé à côté de la gare de Pérache (tramway et métro). Dommage que l'accès à l'ordinateur en libre service soit payant.
