“great hotel”
great and helpful staff, comfortable bar area, excellent breakfast.
“Good value in a simple hotel”
Nice breakfast buffet. Toast & jam, or rolls (very good ones!) with cold cuts. Yogurt & toppings, cold cereals, juice, coffee. Really excellent for the hotel price, much nicer than I'd have expected. Location: about 1-1/2 miles to city center, 1 block to seashore, on bus lines to city center. Good trade-off between more-central but much-higher-priced hotels. Plenty of heat and hot water. Double bed euro-style (2 singles pushed together). Walls and carpet scuffed and stained, but hey, you can't have everything in a budget hotel. Good light-proof drapes. No clock. Wireless internet (or lobby workstation) way overpriced. (I went to the youth hostel downtown to check my e-mail cheaply.) Grocery store and bank/ATM a block or 2 away. Overall, one of the best values I've had this year.
“A really excellent and quality budget hotel”
I had a wonderful time here and I'll definately go back. The staff were really helpful in booking buses and tours for you and the food was good as well. Generally speaking it wasn't heated food and tended to be salads, eggs and fruit but that suited me fine. Also the rooms are very nice for the price - I was staying on my own in a twin bed room with ensuite shower room (which I believe is the standard.) It was cleaned every day and was perfect for me. It was fairly compact though, but I was on my own and it didn't matter. The city is about 15-20 minutes walk but there is a bus stop nearby though if you need one. Also, you're not far from the bay and you get a nice view of the mountains on a clear day. Also you can buy dinner at the hotel (again mostly cold salads) which can be very nice if you've come back from a long tour. I really recommend this place to everyone - its great!
“Too far from city center”
The standard rooms are really really small. Our first room was in the middle of the hotel so it didn't even have a window to the outside. The room was very hot, we complained and they were happy to move us to a different room which was slightly bigger and had a window to the outside. The walk to the city center was a little long for comfort, ok maybe if you are only there for 1 night but next time I would definately pay more and stay closer to the city center. The breakfast was the standard fare, but very enjoyable.
“Great value”
Great help from the front staff with tours etc. Very good breakfasts. Spoke god English. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.
“Happy”
Because of hurricane Irene, my flights got messed up, yet I got to Reykjavik, Iceland, and to the hotel easily, due to the excellent bus service from the airport. I had a nice comfortable room at Hotel Cabin on the sixth floor, overlooking the sea. The hotel staff was very kind and helpful. They confirmed my tours for me, and answered all of my questions. The breakfast was good, the dinner buffet excellent. I really enjoyed my trip, and if I go back to Iceland, I will stay at Hotel Cabin. There are many tours with Reykjavik Excursions and whale sighting companies, and because Hotel Cabin is recognized as one of the city's leading hotels, the tour companies pick up passengers from this hotel. The Fly Bus, coming from and going to the airport, also comes to this hotel. Overall, I had a good stay there!
“Hmm”
Too far away from downtown, the only saving grace is the proximity to the main swimming pool. Rooms and beds are tiny. Would have been better in a guest house.
“a good budget hotel”
We (2 persons) spent altogether 4 nights at Hotel Cabin in August 2011. In between the different nights, we were travelling. The hotel staff was extremely friendly, helpful and well-informed. For every problem, they had an easy solution. On our departure day, they served breakfast at 4 am. The rooms are small, but ok. If you arrive at the hotel around noon, you have a chance to get one of the larger sea-view rooms.. If you come late, you may get one of the backside rooms, which are unreasonably small (just two beds and a bathroom, no way to unpack your stuff). Some of the rooms have minor maintenance issues, nothing too serious. The hotel is situated a 15 minutes walk away from the city center, but public busses for the lazy stop near the hotel. In the immediate neighbourhood of the hotels, you'll find all kinds of useful shops.
“Enjoyable stay at a bargain rate.”
Very small room/excellent location/great breakfast buffet/helpful staff
“Good value”
Extremely good value, size of room ok for one person, very small for two. A lot of noise coming from corridor and upstairs.
