“Thank you Gunnar and Hannah!”
I went with a group of friends to Iceland for the first time, and fell in love with this hotel! The staff (especially Gunnar, Hannah and Anna) were so helpful! They helped book tours, give directions, and made our stay so great! The hot tub and spa/sauna area of the hotel is beautiful! The beds in the hotel were so comfortable and clean! I recommend this hotel to anyone who is staying in Reykjavik and wants a hotel that is right in the heart of downtown, clean, comfortable and has a great staff!
“not a boutique hotel”
i selected this hotel because it was off the main drag of noisy bars and sleepless nights. i had a room with a view of the atlantic ocean and the newly built harpa. the blinds kept the light out at night and i would have been able to sleep, had i not been so fascinated with the magic of iceland's midnight sun. the room was adequate, but certainly *not* the boutique hotel style the hotel advertises. the famed breakfast on the eight floor with a vista was indeed there -- except that i couldn't eat anything because i am a vegan (but this is solely my issue). the front desk employees were a disappointment, particularly polly and karen. disclaimer: i might have been spoiled by the fact that i had just left the sheraton diana majestic in milano, italy where i found exceptional service and friendliness at the front desk, but the folks at the arnarhvoll were not welcoming or helpful. i will seek a different hotel when i return to reykjavik. lastly: if you choose a single room, it will be across from the elevator. be prepared to deal with noise.
“Nice hotel, but needs improvements”
Centerhotel Arnarhvoll is a nice hotel in a great location. It's a very short walk away from the main area of the city. The hotel is clean and modern. The people there were very nice. Unfortunately, there were some drawbacks. The bathroom is poorly designed and the shower door can never completely enclose you, so the bathroom gets soaking wet during a shower. Breakfast buffet is included, but not enough variety and the room was sometimes so full that you couldn't find a seat. Also, the room became very warm when it was sunny and the window could only open a little bit. Overall I had a nice stay and would consider staying there again, but would probably try to find a different hotel.
“Great choice for exploring Reykjavik”
I picked this hotel based on the price, location on the map and the fact that breakfast was included. I was very happy with the hotel. The few quirky things are mostly just the differences in European hotels (as opposed to American rooms) and not particular to this hotel. I emailed them in advance with questions and I always received a prompt response. We requested an ocean view room and sure enough had a great view. Breakfast was good, but it didn't start until 7 which made it hard sometimes to eat before catching tours. And since most guests seem to have the same situation, the dining room was overly crammed/full first thing. But the views from the top floor dining room were amazing and the location of the hotel can't be beat (you can walk anywhere but a block off the main street, so not loud). As a bonus, the minibar had extra room so we could keep some things cold in there. The wifi worked great and was nice to have. I was told there was a small parking lot, but we didn't rent a car so we did not need that anyways.
“Good location”
We stayed here for a three night "girls weekend away" at the Blue Lagoon Spa (which is recommended!). A lack of closet for a longer stay than that would be a bit of a bigger deal but room was clean, comfortable and well located. Only 2 blocks away from the main street but far enough away from the noise. Breakfast was fine considering it was free...the view was tremendous.
“Would Recommend”
I would recommend this hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Little disappointed in the breakfast buffet due to the hot food was cold both mornings and we were there right at 7:00am. The view was outstanding from the restaurant.
“Excellent!”
Great location, close to everything. Room was fairly small but smartly furnished giving lots of room to walk around bed and to the desk. Very modern and clean. We got a room with ocean view - super nice. Enormous and full of interesting choices buffet breakfast was included in the price. Definitely a bargain considering local prices. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is fussy about the location, comfort and great value. This hotel will always be my choice when going back to Iceland.
“Could have been better”
I have stayed in another of the Centerhotels and had a great experience (Thingholt) but there were several problems with this hotel. There is no WiFi and the direct connection in the room did not work. The WiFi in the lobby did not work during the entire stay. Shower splashes out into the bathroom because there is no curtain...just a mobile glass partition that does not contain the water. I don't mind this if I am alone but for two people, it is messy. There was long black hair in the bathroom drain the first day and again on the sheets from my luggage that had been on the floor. The room was clean during the rest of the stay. There was no closet in my room..just a short bar with 5 hangers and a few shelves. Again, this is OK for one but for two, there was very little space for our luggage and to store our things for a 4 night stay. The Spa is nice but you have to have the front desk let you in every time. The steam room did not work well but overall..a nice thing to have at the end of along day. The staff was very nice and the location is great...far enough away from the late night crowds but a short walk to everything. Very close to the new Opera House/Convention Center...great building inside and out. The staff was very nice and helpful. I would recommend but the Thingholt was a better experience a few years ago. Smaller and more intimate. Hope this helps....
“decent and convenient”
The hotel was in walking distance of most Reykjavik main streets, shops, and restaurants as well as the harbor. We really liked the modern design of the hotel. Part of the reason we picked this hotel was for the breakfast including in the booking price. However, the breakfast options were rather limited and the eggs tasted funny...but the view from the 8th floor is amazing. We stayed at the hotel for 6 days, but ate breakfast at the hotel only twice because we did not like it. We ended eating our daily meals at several restaurants and buying late night snacks from the 24-hour convenience store. Finally, it seemed like we were the only couple under 30 years old staying the hotel. Many of the other guests were 50+ years old. Not sure why that was, but it really did not matter to us. If you are looking for a simple place to sleep comfortably and shower, this hotel will meet your needs at a decent price.
“Great Experience!”
The location of this hotel is great! Close enough to the center but far enough from the noise of the city. Some reviews reported being able to check in early unfortunately we were not able to do so but the hotel held onto our bags so we could walk around the city. The staff were very nice and professional. They were all very helpful and were always willing to answer questions. We booked a few of our activities with the front desk and there were a few mix-ups but everything worked out. It might be better to go to tourist information to book activities. The rooms are a little small but you don't spend much time in there anyway. The one double bed was actually two twins pushed together. The rooms did have black out curtains which is key in the summer time. The complimentary breakfast was pretty good. The restaurant upstairs has a great view!
