Great location!

Posted 16-Sep-2014
Pros: Icelandic style! Location, amenities and great style! Good for business and vacation travel.
Cons: Parking...there is none! They could, perhaps, let us park at a companion hotel lot in walking distance.
Location: Icelandic tour companies are around the corner. The best shopping in the city is outside the door. You can walk to to museums and the big square
I loved the location of this hotel. The staff was very helpful, day and night. My room was great and quiet in a part of Reykjavik that rocks with music at night, so that was a blessing. My only complaint was no parking. Perhaps they could offer parking free at one of their other hotels, within walking distance.

Close to shopping, restaurants...

Pros: It was in the heart of the city. It was spotless. The staff was always helpful and accommodating .
Cons: Shower was poorly designed water swept out to the floor, so everything was damp, most of the time. TV didn't work ,nor did the phone.
Centrally located. Arrived late at nite. Welcomed by the staff. Room was small , but clean. Comfortable beds with great bedding. Breakfast in the morning was elaborate and included.

The hotel that meets all your needs!

CenterHotel Thingholt is extremely well positioned just off the main street through Reykjavik. It is within easy walking distance of all the main attractions and coastal walks. A particular advantage is that it is very near the Grayline Coach Tour office which deals with every excursion imaginable to amazing places throughout Iceland. The area around the hotel is also populated with many quality places to eat. The staff at the hotel can't do enough to please! Tours and restaurants can be booked from there as well as taxis and transport back to the airport. Breakfast is included in the price of the room and there is a wide choice of food available to suit all tastes. A fantastic experience!

Great location, Great in-hotel food

Posted 25-Aug-2014
Pros: Great location, nice rooms, friendly staff
Cons: I wish that all the rooms had some type of "view". Ours faced a cement wall which was lousy.
Location: Perfectly situated in downtown Reyjkavik near shops, attractions, bakeries and supermarkets.
The hotel is perfectly situated "where the action is" in downtown Reyjkavik. Standard room is ample size, but the view from our hotel was a cement wall so not that great. The rooms are kept sparkling clean. Hotel staff is very accommodating, knowledgable and friendly. The pleasant surprise was the excellent breakfast that was included with our stay. We also enjoyed an outstanding dinner at the hotel restaurant! We will definitely recommend this hotel to others wanting to enjoy a great time in Iceland.

An OK Hotel

Posted 25-Aug-2014
Pros: See above. Location, staff, warmth, and buffet breakfast.
Cons: See above. That wet room on the 4th floor.
Location: Central. Everything the town has to offer is nearby and good to see.
Nicely central hotel, generally helpful staff, plentiful buffet breakfast. A nice night porter got warm croissants and drinks for us at 2.30am so we could have something before our early flight home. But the wet room in our allocated room on the 4th floor sloped towards the bathroom door, so the bedroom started to flood the first time we had a shower. Reception actually told us that this was because of an architectural flaw in the design of the bathroom. She helped to mop up the water but, because the hotel was full, we could not be moved to another room till the next day. The new room was ok. We were surprised to learn that the room with the wet room problem was still being used by the time we left. The problem could be solved by the simple addition of a rim at the edge of the wet room.

Horrible experience

Posted 17-Aug-2014
We were a party of six and I booked three rooms for four nights. Two of the three rooms were acceptable. The third room was number 413. The room was unbearably hot like a suana. When I complained to the woman at the desk she suggested that we go out to dinner and she would take care of the situation. Upon our return she reported that this solution was that she had set up two fans and the room should be comfortable. I went to my room and the room remained uncomfortably hot even with the two fans at either end of the room. It was unbearable to sleep in. I asked for a change in room and I was initially informed that there were no other rooms available . After about 45 minutes of discussion she agreed to provide me with a different room. The room that I was offered was unacceptable as there was no shower just a bathtub with a difficult way to get in and out of the tub. After about another 45 minute discussion and a call to a night supervisor I was offered a different room. This room was unacceptable as well as it was twin beds with not sufficient room for two people to move around in nor did it have any drawers to put the clothes in. After some additional discussion I was able to secure a guarantee that I would be able to have different room on the following day. This is certainly not a four-star hotel by any means or stretch of the imagination. I asked to be upgraded for my inconvenience. Instead the manager sent me a bottle of wine which was meaningless as I don't drink

Staff: Extremely helpful and friendly

Pros: Location and convenience to all that the capital has to offer. Easy walk to the best restaurants and the marina. Great shops all around.
Cons: Icelanders are not best known for their concise directions . . . so, be sure to use the map provided to locate the attractions in town.
Location: Eat at the hotel . chef prepares delicious dishes. Harpa Concert Hall - How to Be an Icelander in 60 minutes . . very funny and worth your time!!
We were very pleased with the constant and continuous support and assistance from all the members of the staff at this hotel. From the time we got there after a night flight until the time we left, the staff helped us plan our adventures, made reservations for dining at the best places, and recommended great places to hear music (Chaiway all the way!!). This hotel does it all for you . . . you don't have to lift a finger . . . just go on the adventures! We will be back!!!
