Horrible experience

Posted 17-Aug-2014
We were a party of six and I booked three rooms for four nights. Two of the three rooms were acceptable. The third room was number 413. The room was unbearably hot like a suana. When I complained to the woman at the desk she suggested that we go out to dinner and she would take care of the situation. Upon our return she reported that this solution was that she had set up two fans and the room should be comfortable. I went to my room and the room remained uncomfortably hot even with the two fans at either end of the room. It was unbearable to sleep in. I asked for a change in room and I was initially informed that there were no other rooms available . After about 45 minutes of discussion she agreed to provide me with a different room. The room that I was offered was unacceptable as there was no shower just a bathtub with a difficult way to get in and out of the tub. After about another 45 minute discussion and a call to a night supervisor I was offered a different room. This room was unacceptable as well as it was twin beds with not sufficient room for two people to move around in nor did it have any drawers to put the clothes in. After some additional discussion I was able to secure a guarantee that I would be able to have different room on the following day. This is certainly not a four-star hotel by any means or stretch of the imagination. I asked to be upgraded for my inconvenience. Instead the manager sent me a bottle of wine which was meaningless as I don't drink

Staff: Extremely helpful and friendly

Posted 11-Aug-2014
Pros: Location and convenience to all that the capital has to offer. Easy walk to the best restaurants and the marina. Great shops all around.
Cons: Icelanders are not best known for their concise directions . . . so, be sure to use the map provided to locate the attractions in town.
Location: Eat at the hotel . chef prepares delicious dishes. Harpa Concert Hall - How to Be an Icelander in 60 minutes . . very funny and worth your time!!
We were very pleased with the constant and continuous support and assistance from all the members of the staff at this hotel. From the time we got there after a night flight until the time we left, the staff helped us plan our adventures, made reservations for dining at the best places, and recommended great places to hear music (Chaiway all the way!!). This hotel does it all for you . . . you don't have to lift a finger . . . just go on the adventures! We will be back!!!

Central Reykjavik Hotel

Posted 04-Aug-2014
Pros: Excellent location, friendly and helpful reception staff, good breakfast, and clean and pleasant rooms.
Cons: Very little - we really liked it!
Location: Great location - whale watching trips, Golden Circle & Blue Lagoon excursions from bus station nearby, shopping, eating & culture.
We stayed in the centerhotel Thingholt for 5 nights and our stay was excellent - the reception staff were incredibly helpful and friendly (both generally when greeting us, and particularly when booking excursions); the inclusive breakfast was great - a really good selection to cater for different tastes (hot food, pastries, cereals). There was little noise in the hotel itself even though there were plenty of guests staying (i.e. no noise from the corridors or rooms next door). You could hear some noise from the outside on the street but this is inevitable in a centrally located hotel, and if you think outside noise is likely to be bothersome, it's worth packing earplugs just in case. The location was brilliant - short walks to the harbour and coastline, right next to some of the main shopping streets (with supermarket nearby for stocking up on water and snacks for trips - worth doing as Reykjavik is pricey) and plenty of places to eat out or stop for coffee. Walking distance to many of the main sites (museums, galleries, etc) and close to various tourist information centres. We were extremely happy with this hotel and would thoroughly recommend it.

This is a great hotel in the centre of the city. The room was clean and very comfortable. The breakfast in the morning consisted of a large selection of hot and cold foods. Very relaxing environment.

Nice hotel for a short stay

Posted 17-Jul-2014
Pros: Location, breakfast, staff
Cons: Better promotion, more emphasis on style
Location: All main attractions are nearby
Stayed for 5 days in July 2014. The hotel's style is supposed to be 'hard rock' and minimalistic and that doesn't go well with 4-star amenities. At first sight we got a feeling the room was being repaired and walls hadn't been finished, because one wall was not painted, just concrete wall. We upgraded the room to deluxe which was a bit larger in size but still featured the same elements of a very peculiar style. So I recommend to book a deluxe or a junior suite to make the adaption process smoother. The breakfast was good due to various fish dishes, which perhaps typical for any Icelandic hotel. The staff was very friendly and forthcoming, really wanted to meet our requirements. To sum up - it is a good option for younger visitors, not discerning travellers.

Great hotel near all the activity of central town

Posted 14-Jul-2014
The hotel is contemporary and well designed. No old hotel smell here. The staff was very accommodating and friendly with every encounter we had. A nice full breakfast included also. Not just some stale bread and cereal but full on breakfast (buffet style). Easy walking to the main streets with all the shopping, food, pubs, caf├ęs. Great place and I'd stay here again!

Form without function, design without delight

Posted 11-Jul-2014
Pros: location, breakfast
Cons: room design, functional lighting throughout hotel, value
Great location, very modern, but dark and ungainly; in the foyer with another couple, I stepped back to make room...soaking my foot in a shallow moat! Our "deluxe" room was poorly laid out, small, with a bathtub on a bias making maneuvering two large suitcases difficult, and lighting so 1950's, with no light at all over the desk. Deskstaff was nice and friendly, breakfast was nicely down with good variety, in the middle of downtown but not noisy, best thing was being so close to Hamarhusid, Lobster House Restaurant!

Brilliant location and lovely staff

Posted 08-Jul-2014
The staff cannot be more helpful and they were consistently so for the duration of our stay. The hotel is centrally located and while this can prove a little problematic when the noise from neighbouring bars filters through, the benefits far outweigh the disadvantage. Meals were also quite good and the breakfast exceptionally so. Highly recommend.
