“Great character hotel in the centre of Reykjavik”

Very central hotel with lovely modern decor. Good breakfast and lots of lovely local restaurants. The staff were very helpful and helped us book trips and restaurants.

Dining
We went to a lovely restaurant just round the corner from the hotel - I think it was called Frau Bergman. It was recommended to us by the staff at the hotel. It has a small and traditional Icelandic menu. I would thoroughly recommend - the food was delicious and not that expensive for Iceland.

“Winter in Reykjavik”

Our stay at CenterHotel Thingholt was very enjoyable. It is located on a side street just off the main shopping and dining streets so an easy walk. Also only a short walk to the Old Harbor, the Convention Center and museums. The Hotel was clean and well maintained. Our room was on the 4th (top) floor and was small but definitely adequate. It was larger than many Manhattan hotel rooms we have stayed in. The top floor has dormers leading to head bumps a few times until we adjusted. Other floors don't seem to suffer from the low ceiling. We really only were in the room to sleep and shower with so many things nearby. And the lobby bar area is very comfortable and friendly. If you have a car be aware that there is only on street parking, but it was very available (this might be different in the main tourist season) and cheap (About $5/day). It does require going to the parking box a few feet from the hotel entrance by shortly after 10AM to buy a ticket for the day. The neighborhood seemed very safe for parking a car on the street. We didn't stay over a Friday or Saturday night so I'm not sure what the partying sound levels are on those famous nights in Reykjavik. And although the daylight is a little short in December, it was a great time to be in Iceland. We will go again and stay at Thingbolt.

“Very impressive”

We arrived to hear the couple in front of us at check in asking worrying questions about the noise at night and wanting a quite room. Well I don't know where they were located but our room was quiet, modern and spacious. We were on the second floor. There is a good bar in the lounge together with plenty of comfortable seating. All the staff were so helpful in recommending places to go and great local restaurants off the beaten track. Go to Madonna's Italian Restaurant by the way it's a gem! The location of ther hotel is fantastic and right by the main shopping street with shops and restaurants on the door step. We would recommend the B5 bar and Solon bistro. All being well we will return to lovely Reykjavik next year and will definitely be staying at this hotel.

Area recommendations
Reykjavik is a very quaint, friendly City with wonderful people, though not many people and you will never feel cramped for space. There is a real bohemian cool vibe about and anything goes. Good times

“Stunning, Brilliantly located, great value boutique hotel!”

We were incredibly pleased with centerhotel thingholt. We got our room at a great rate on expedia and were amazed with the quality of the room and service. Breakfast every morning was simple but there was enough to cater to most tastes, when we left early in the morning they arranged a smaller breakfast for us. They also help organize and manage some of our tours. Our room was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and stylish. A gem of a hotel!

“Really good hotel”

This hotel is well located near Reykjavik's main shopping street. The rooms are clean and modern, the shower is great. Breakfast was good as well. The receptionist was very helpful too.

Getting around
Getting around Reykjavik by foot is easy but I'd recommend renting a car if you are planning to go outside the capital. Parking inside Reykjavik is free after 18:00 and until 10:00 on week days.
Must see
The Blue Lagoon (south-west of Iceland, there's a very convenient bus service from Reykjavik to Keflavik airport via the Blue Lagoon, check on Reykjavik Excursions' website for tickets for the Blue Lagoon express), Thingvellir National Park, Geysir and all its geysers, Gullfoss waterfall.

“Brilliant boutique hotel perfectly placed”

Ive been to Iceland three times now, and up until the most recent trip I've stayed in hotels in downtown Reykjavik and thought they were conveniently placed... Until now! The Thingholt is fantastically central, just off the main shopping road, one junction away from the civic centre, only a five minute stroll to and the shoreline. Lots of restaurants around for added convenience. The hotel itself is very modern in design, clear from the moment you see the main doors. The rooms are very much in a minimalist design, all concrete and rubberised floors which gives them the clean modern look, and it isn't to everyone's tastes.... If you want a traditional hotel with soft furnishing and carpets, best try somewhere else! But I loved the look. The room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom with rainforest shower much appreciated after a days diving. The front desk staff wherein a class of their own, efficient & extremely helpful with tour/restaurant bookings. The only minor quibble was the breakfast, which while being tasty, lacked variety from day to day and the hot foods weren't kept that hot. Great hotel overall, will return there next summer.

Area recommendations
Central Reykjavik - downtown has plenty of hotels and is easily accessed by the tours, but central Reykjavik puts everything with easy walking distance.
