Pleased with our experience

Posted 27-Jul-2015
Pros: Location and price
We stayed one night during a weekend trip to the Keys. We just really needed a place to sleep for the night and were not looking for much more than a clean room with comfy beds. Our budget did not allow us to stay in an overpriced resort in Key West. We are very happy with this hotel. About 30 minutes outside of Key West was perfect spot. We read complaints about the music from the tiki bar. The reviews are accurate, you can hear the music from your room but on a Saturday night the band was done playing before 11pm. Perfectly acceptable to us.

Very nice for the price

Stayed here with my boyfriend for a little vacation. Staff was extremely friendly and easy going. We stayed in a room with a great view but had some air conditioning problems. It was hot! We had to move but the staff was great about it. Showed us different rooms and apologized about the problem which was fine because the new room was freezing! Locals on Ramrod are friendly too! Told us great fishing spots and bridges. A local told us about No Name bridge, a local gem, and it was amazing fishing. the room was clean and we enjoyed it. Tiki bar can get a little rowdy but the sound dies down around 10. Definitely recommend for a cheap comfortable stay!

It's nothing fancy and we hardly had any water pressure in the sink. You had to brush your teeth and wash your hands in the shower bc only a drop of water would come out of the sink. Tough when you have an 8 yr old and a 1 yr old. Plus the band playing at the tiki bar til 11 means your kids won't sleep til after 11

Divers hotel

Posted 02-Jun-2015
Location: Boondocks Bar and Grill, Sugarloaf Lodge Tiki Hut, Bat Tower, Skydiving
Although I was not there to dive, the hotel is designed more for divers. Two boats go out daily and the staff has lots of experiences and information to share. The rooms need attention, as the manager is full aware, but the rooms are clean! There is good food and drink, good entertainment and fair prices for the Key West area.

Closest hotel outside Key west

Posted 01-Jun-2015
Pros: The staff were very friendly.
Cons: The rooms need updated.
Location: 30 minutes from Key West. Snorkeling available.
The room was clean, but missing plates over the electrical switches. There were no small bottles of shampoo in the bathrooms, so have some in your luggage. Beds were comfortable. Hotel staff are what makes this hotel worth staying. Very friendly. Not much parking and the trash outside had a stench to it. Back of hotel had some beautiful views of the canal.

Great choice for lower keys.

Posted 01-Jun-2015
Pros: Location and price.
Location: First visit we were kayaking, so could go virtually any direction and find a great place to enjoy the water. Most recently we were exploring Key West.
This is close to everything and at a reasonable price. Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. Friendly staff.

Price good, staff friendly , room ok , no parking for guests as the tiki bar guests take parking.. Fisrt come first serve. 1 star on parking.. Grounds and garbage cans un-kept.

NOISY

Posted 30-May-2015
Pros: the front desk clerk
Cons: most everything
Location: great location if you want to be in Ramrod Key.
Price seemed reasonable until you saw what it really was. The bar just outside the rooms plays very loud music every night. The TV volume does not go loud enough to drown out the bar noise. It does end at 10 PM. At 7 AM there was a cleaning session with a loud gas powered blower waking us up. The entire place looks like it had general maintenance 10 to 20 years ago. The pool was filthy. The pool deck was worn out and about to fall apart. The young fellow behind the front desk was very polite and concerned when we left before our scheduled departure date. This place has potential. The business is a dive shop, a tiki bar, and a hotel. The hotel seems to be at the bottom of their priority.
