Get what you pay for

Posted 20-May-2015
Overall we had a nice time. We have definitely stay in nicer resorts, however, it was a good deal for the price we paid. The accommodations and decor were dated but overall comfortable. The beach was small but nice lounging areas. The ocean water was poor clarity and rocky sand. The food was mediocre. We had a wonderful time at "The Blue Hole" and at Punta Espada Golf course. My favorite thing about the resort was that it was calm and quite and easy to relax there. I would probably spend the money on a nicer resort with a better beach if I ever go back the DR.

Pure Bliss

Posted 20-May-2015
From the moment I first arrived and was greated by our Butler and Concierge staff I was wowed at every turn. My stay was in the Luxury Villa with a pool, a must have to escape the heat at times. Proposed to my girlfriend and set wedding date to return and get married there. I give the attention to detail, food and staff a 12 out of 10

Quiet retreat with excellent service

Posted 19-May-2015
Pros: We loved the style of the hotel and the staff the most and since we are busy girls we enjoyed the quiet and small crowds too.
Cons: I found the beds a little uncomfortable, not that I wasn't able to rest but that will be something that can be improved.
Location: The location is great if you love the beach as it is right next to Juanillo, if you only care for the bars and nightlife prepare to pay lots in cabs.
We stayed here for five days and we had a blast. This is not your typical overcrowded and big resort... this is a very small and quite place with very nice colonial architecture. The facilities are clean and nice, although beds are not super comfy they are pretty fair and food is excellent. The staff is very friendly and they will treat you like VIP. The beach at the hotel is quite small but it's located walking distance from playa Juanillo which is a pretty nice beach so this is not an inconvenience. There are lots of couples in this place and most singles you see are there for destination weddings. We were three single girls from Mexican background and I guess we kind of stand out for that, everyone on the staff knew us and many even called us by our names so we didn't mind the couple thing at all. They were also other few singles and we got to meet them and hang out with them at night outside the resort, which was very convenient to split the cab as they are very expensive. Activities in the Island are pretty cheap compared to other places in the Caribbean and you always get to meet friendly people everywhere. You can also take a cab, or rent a car and drive to Bavaro area where there are more bars and things to do at night. If you are just looking to party this will not be the resort for you unless you rent a car, but if you are looking to relax, have a good time, enjoy the beach and yourself this is the place to be.

Great hotel!

Posted 19-May-2015
We stayed at the resort for 6 days and 7 nights. The food, staff, amenities, and entertainment was wonderful. The only thing we had an issue with was the room smelling musty. After our first night we noticed the the pillows were what was causing the musty smell. I called down to the front desk to let them know we needed new pillows and housing keeping delivered them within a couple minutes. After removing the pillows our room smelled fine for the rest of our visit. I recommend buying the all-inclusive package. It's much cheaper then paying for drinks and meals sepretley! The hotel taxes 18% every time you make a purchase / charge something to your room. The tax does not apply to guests that have the all-inclusive package, unless you leave a tip. We found out, during check out, that they charged us 18% tax on all tips that we charged to the card attached to our room. Definitely tip the wait staff in cash. I highly recommend this hotel!!

6-Night Honeymoon in Castle Suite Ocean View Room

Posted 18-May-2015
Pros: It is beautiful, spacious, clean, well landscaped, drinks are delicious, the all-inclusive is great, the staff is generally friendly. Close to airport
Cons: The excursion to the mall in Downtown Punta Cana is not worth it. I wanted to experience the D.R., not an American style mall with American products.
Location: The resort is isolated. I didn't realize Cap Cana is closed off from the rest of Punta Cana. $3 cab ride to go within Cap Cana, but $50 to go outside
Our stay for our honeymoon was wonderful, relaxing and beautiful, but not perfect. I wanted my fiance and I to have an ocean view room and from all the reviews, I booked a Junior Suite in the Castle because everyone raved about it. However, there were no Ocean View castle suites available, only regular Castle Junior Suites. I called ahead of time and they assured me that if there was availability when we arrived, we would be moved to an ocean view room and they would take special note that it was our honeymoon. However, when we arrived on May 5th and the resort felt almost empty, they said they would not be able to move us and they made no mention about our honeymoon. Our room was facing a parking lot and for the price, I expected more from the room. After our first night, my fiance went back to the reception to ask again to be switched to an ocean view room, they still said they couldn't do it, but after some persistence, they agreed to move us. The ocean view castle junior suite is larger than the regular castle junior suite and the ocean view is amazing. The resort is beautiful and has great modern decor. Keep in mind they charge U.S. prices ($150 for a 50 minute massage, $15 for 3 ounce sun block, $35 for 10 small cigars) and the resort is isolated. The drinks are delicious, the restaurants have good food, room service is convenient and the spa has great amenities. This seems to be a place for couples, as I hardly saw singles or children. They have no water sports.

Wonderful vacation...but a little slow at times

Posted 18-May-2015
Pros: Cleanliness, quick response time, free drinks in fridge (soda, beer, water).
Location: We signed up for an excursion to do a yacht cruise but it was cancelled the day of.
Let me start off by stating that the resort is beautiful and the food is pretty decent (you have 5 restaurants to choose from). However, the beach was just plain awful. I didn't get in any water but if I had wanted to, I would have been stuck to the (2) pools (which were very nice). The beach had tons of seaweed that seemed to accumulate on shore everyday and the resort had people out basically every morning attempting to get it up. So...if your looking for pristine clear blue beach water, you'll have to go elsewhere. Also the nightly entertainment consisted of live music outside of the bar area. It was nice but me and the new hubby are in our late 30's to mid 40's and a little more lively entertainment would have been nice. However, you are able to cab it where you want for more variety. Of course the resort had all the other normal activities that they all have (classes, biking, spa services, etc.). Lastly, if you use 2 towels to wash/bath with then you may have some continued reminders at this hotel. Everyday we were given (1) face towel when there were knowing 2 of us (we had a honeymoon banner on the door). Me and my husband both use 2 face towels and had to call everyday for extra. Even if a person doesn't use 2 towels, I don't think 2 people will use 1 towel...gross. We signed up for an excursion to do a yacht cruise but it was cancelled the day of. We were told that it was cancelled due to the potential weather concerns but it ended up being nice & sunny.

Nice hotel, terrible beach and staff!

Posted 18-May-2015
We have stayed in this hotel for four days, and I am very regretful to spend crazy amount of money on this hotel! It is definetely not worthed!!! The hotel was beautifully renovated, but the lobby makes you feel like you are in a spa! The music and candles are definetely bad decision, they should find a solution for the music which makes you feel sleep right there! The snack bar and restaurants are not good enough for this kind of luxury resort! The beach is small and all dirty! You could find a better solution with a lower price and better quality in La Romana hotels! Beach is amazing in La Romana! The pools are good, but most of the people prefer to use the main pool because it is the only one has a bar! There was a hot tab, well it was supposed to be a hot tub which was definetely a warm-cold tub! There is a Japanese restaurant, Wok, the only one you need to make a reservation and it is also the only one that you should never go! Bad food, really bad! Overall, I would never stay in this hotel and never recomend people to pay for this hotel! You could definetely find a better and nicer one with a lower price!
