Close to beach

Too many people trying to sell you excursions. Staff are friendly. Food is ok. Not great but the restaurants are great. Do not recommend bringing pesos. They prefer US currency. I wish I would have known that.

Pros: Very Nice Beach, Restaurants were great, Pool COULD have been nicer but Pool Bar Staff were great. CocoBongo was a blast!
Cons: Have more supervision or "directors" who interact with guests. Improve staff level of service. CLEAN THE POOL. Casino very poor (leftovers from vegas)
Location: If you want to walk the beach to other hotels, forget about it. Catalonia is remote but that is nice, no outsiders. CocoBongo was a blast.
We went to the Catalonia from Central Florida to get away from the hassle of Florida beaches and to get some time away from it all. The hotel information on the Expedia website made it look to be the perfect spot. When we arrived, we were very pleased at how appealing the hotel, grounds and the beach were. As the week progressed, we ran into issues that never seemed to get resolved. 1) Very large and well laid out pool but the maintenance was horrible. there was a film that was on the walls all week and was never touched. The "Free Wi-Fi" was 100% useless because it never functioned the entire week. The staff seemed to be on their own because we never saw a supervisor or a lead person directing the staff. So the level of service was well below what it should have been. Staff was more interested in their cell phones and talking to each other than providing service. Anything simple (second glass of drink at meal) seemed to agitate them. We were upgraded to "Privileged" level when we made the booking with Expedia but never felt that this gave us any additional benefits than normal guests, except for beach area. We were disappointed in Expedia because any complaints were more deflected toward the hotel and nothing was ever resolved the entire week. Hotel COULD be 4 star with a small amount of work. Friday night street vendors on location are too pushy, almost an annoyance. Knowing that these things were corrected, we would return and recommend to friends. BUT ONLY AFTER

Enjoyable and relaxing resort

Pros: Hotel management and staff were very friendly and welcoming. Resort grounds are very beautiful.Entertainment team make it more enjoyable and fun.
Cons: Wi-Fi could be better as it's difficult to stay connected.
Location: Grounds are beautiful pool is large enough not to feel too crowded.
From start to finish of our 10 day/10 night stay at this resort my partner and I had an amazing time. While searching on Expedia for the right resort to stay in for my B-Day vacation in Punta Cana we came across Catalonia Bavaro witch listed all the amenities that we were looking for and we surely weren't disappointed. This resort is exactly 15 min. away from the airport going and coming. We did not have any traffic and the roads were in great condition. To avoid the headache of having to find a taxi upon arrival we booked a private van round-trip on Expedia for a good price.After clearing immigration and getting our bags . We looked for the booth of the van contractor, received a voucher and walked out to look for our van.Upon arrival to the resort. We were met by the staff who took our bags and walked us to the reception and offered us cold drinks.Check in is at 3 p.m. and even though we arrived past 4 p.m we still had to wait 15 minutes for our room to be ready.Once checked in we were driven in a golf cart to our room.The room was very spacious, clean, and it had good selection of toiletries.And not to mention the minibar is free and stocked daily with local beer, waters and sodas. The room has a sitting area, a balcony with a hammock, which was very lovely king-size bed. It also has an in room safe, a large tub and standalone shower. The air-conditioning was functioning and you are able to leave it running while away so on your return the room is nice and cool.

Hotel completo com tudo incluso mesmo.

Pros: Do espaço dos bares e as areas da praia.
Cons: A limpeza dos quartos, principal,emte o banheiro. O A comida do restaurante é enjoativa, talvez pelo grande volume.
Location: Localização tranquila, a praia esta com muitas algas.
As acomodaçoes 'standard' oferecem uma boa estadia para todos. O serviço de quarto é regular limitado a troca de toalhas e pequenas arrumaçoes. Há uma area vip 'previllege' que possui melhores serviços e restaurantes. Tudo está incluso mesmo!

Pros: La atension de los empleados todos muy amables. El equipo que tienen en las diferentes actividades es maravilloso. desde la zumba hasta el teatro,etc.
Cons: quizas el restaurante japones.
Location: Fuimos al Katamaran y fue excelente. asi como las actividades diarias del hotel. no tienes tiempo de aburrirte.
He pasado unos dias inolvidables. Las actividades muy amenas y constantes desde las 9 de la mañana hasta las 2 de la madrugada. Los restaurantes magnificos. Solo la playa que tenia muchas algas. Por lo demas 100% maravilloso.

On the ocean full of stinking, rotting algae

Pros: get used to staff walking in, unless you have the do not disturb sign on your door. there is only 110 v receptacle in the room. bring a power strip
Cons: the restaurants need reservation tickets but you can't make a reservation. excursions start at 6:30 a.m.so prepare to stand in the lobby or go hungry
Location: a women & child before an excursion were refused entry bc it wasn't 7. the food is just marginal, nothing is cold or hot. prepare to eat in humidity.
where to start? at the longest check in of my life they up sell you to a "privileged" suite. they tell you all the great advantages. they tell you that you get a bevy of extras, including ",,, premium beverages, anything you want is all included." the third day from the last we ordered a drink and were refused. we just gave up. the suite they originally gave us was in building 2. immediately behind it was a building under construction. loud banging (everything is done by hand, no power tools here) and it runs til 9 p.m. no opportunity for relaxing on the deck hammock. so within an hour of our arrival we moved to a suite in building 1. the room was unsafe, the front door didn't lock properly and the door jamb was split down the middle. numerous calls to reception proved fruitless, so after several trips and an email to the hotel manager, it was addressed on day 2. i have to say, she was very responsive. the air conditioning runs CONSTANTLY. it does not shut down, if it is working in your suite. the people next to us had to call maintenance upon arrival because theirs wasn't working. with the upgrade you get access to a concierge. most times they answered, however, there were several times they did not. and the sign in the room "call 12 for anything" is a joke. that line never answers, so bring an alarm clock. we were only lucky enough to get through once for a wake up call. the grounds are not kept clean, the beach is loaded with straws & cigarette butts

Nice resort

Pros: Clean, no problems with the food.
Cons: Don't push the vacation package.
Location: Kayaking, snorkeling, historical visits to nearby towns/cities.
Overall a nice resort. The staff was helpful (other than the attempt to sell you a vacation package). Food is good and plentiful with lots of variety. Our room was comfortable and decent size. We went with a toddler, and everyone was accommodating, which was very helpful. If you want a better look at the real Dominican Republic, Santa Domingo is only a couple hours drive away.

Short shuttle from Airport

Pros: Really enjoyed the swimming pool and the wonderful breeze near the beach. The restaurants get old after awhile.
Cons: The nightly entertainment - The good shows were the "Saturday Night Fever" show and the "Origins" show. The rest of the shows were really weak.
Location: Airport is 15 minutes away. You have to pay for any extras off of the resort. We did Country Express - it was great!
We knew nothing about the Dominican Republic all inclusive hotels. However, we did not want to spend a fortune on a vacation either. The price was good. The rooms were very comfortable, however the showers are very small and only trickle out water - not easy to wash your hair if it is thick. Great beach area with a lot of chairs and shade, however, the actual shoreline was covered with THICK seaweed. Really gross. Every morning there are local men that are paid to rake as much of the seaweed as possible using rakes and a tractor too. This goes on all morning. We did not expect to have to listen to a membership presentation while on our vacation. It did not say anything of the sort online. The "60" minute presentation turned into 2 hours long! They would not take NO for an answer. They trick you by telling you that you will receive a lovely "Welcome Gift" as part of the short 60 minute presentation. They also tell you that you are not obligated to purchase anything. However, it is hard to say NO. We did say NO. We completely enjoyed our excursion that was booked before we arrived. You will find a lot of excursion selling employees swarming the resort. It gets annoying after awhile. The facility itself was lovely. Beautiful, tropical surroundings. We loved the swimming pool too. Wish there was a shuttle that would take you to a different beach too. Macao Beach was much nicer than the resort beach.
