Built high above the Chavón River, Altos de Chavón replicates a 16th-century Italian village hand-constructed out of rock, stone, iron, wood, and cobblestones. The village is dedicated to the arts and includes an art school and galleries, shops, restaurants, and a church that was dedicated to the city by the Pope. Shows are held periodically in a 5,000-seat amphitheater, the site of concerts by many Latin American stars. Complimentary shuttles transport guests to the village and the airport.
Designed by an Italian architect to resemble an Italian seaside village, the resort's marina includes shops, boutiques, a supermarket, and restaurants arrayed around a central plaza facing a yacht harbor.
A complimentary children's/teens center offers computer games, Internet-connected computers, pool tables, board games, CDs, karaoke, and outdoor volleyball. For fees, supervised children's activities are also available, with sessions for ages 1–3, 4–7, 8–12, and 13-17.
