I stayed at the Barcelo Bavarro(Beach side) in Oct '14. The staff was very professional and helpful with any discrepancies . The Language barrier was nowhere near the problem I thought it would be. The facility is huge and there's so much to do. Food was great (both with room service and the restaurants.)
Complaints: 1.) Structure is kinda thin (obnoxious if your neighbors are noisy, and mine were) 2.) No cash accepted in the VERY expensive gift shops.
Tip: Don't drink the tap water or eat the ice !!
Royal Service is worth the extra money because you are taken to a quiet, private area to check in/out and are given champagne and snacks while you wait (which didn't take long); you have an exclusive pool, beach, and dining place, and you are given a phone to contact your "butler" for any needs you might have. We only saw our butler once so I don't know the butler was necessary except to make dining reservations. I don't think he paid alot of attention to us when we met him because we were on a mother/daughter trip and we received rose petals in the shape of a heart on our bed one evening and champagne in our room one evening. We had a big laugh anyway!
The staff was very accommodating, especially the evening concierge, I think her name is Erica and the bellboy and waiter staff. Loved the customer service from the moment I arrived at the resort. My room was beautiful and big, and I was surprised at the cable package offered. I was able to watch news stories that occurred in New York. The food was ok, but the cooking staff did their best to accommodate modifications. I Definitely would return and now that I understand how the all inclusive package works, I will continue to book these types of packages (when available). If you want a peaceful or romantic vacation, this resort is the way to go.
We loved staying at the Ocean Blue. The staff was very friendly and hard working. The food was great, the room was comfortable and the pools were amazing! It was so close to the beach and offered many excursions.
