Stunning beach, hotel for outgoing people only

Posted 02-Mar-2015
Pros: Beach, Cleanliness, Pools, Volleyball
Cons: Train the staff on how to treat guests. It is not acceptable to ignore someone standing at the front desk for 3-5 minutes while you deal with papers.
Location: Close to the airport so that was great.
The good: 1 - Beach is extremely beautiful along with the pools and property. 2 - They keep the grounds clean and well maintained. The OK: 1 - Resort staff are not the most outwardly helpful, or friendly. If you're an outgoing person and willing to tip the staff, you will have a much better experience. I'm not sure if it is the language barrier (not many spoke great English) but if you asked them about themselves, where they live, their interest, etc they seemed to open up. Make it a point to befriend the waiters and bartenders and you'll enjoy yourself much more! 2 - Unless you make friends with bartenders, the drinks will be watered down. 3 - Noisy part boats parading in front of the beach. The Bad: 1 - I was torn here because our food experience started off horribly but improved each day. We got to the resort and were starving so went to a buffet for lunch. The food was not eatable. Everything tasted like plastic and was disgusting. The restaurants were mediocre at best and not romantic in the least bit. Way too bright and cafeteria like. Our best meal by far was at the Japanese restaurant on our last night. It was our best meal and we both said how great the food was...too bad it was our last night. 2 - We stayed at the adults only side and found ourselves traveling to the family side all the time. The lunch buffet was better and all of the restaurants were there. The only upside I found to the adults side was a quieter beach experience.

2/18/2015 to 2/25/2015 Stay

Posted 02-Mar-2015
Pros: Beautiful grounds - Chez Gourmet and French Restaurants - Massages at Spa were wonderful but pricey. Nice golf course (husband played 3 days)
Cons: Keep breakfast hot items warmer - offer Decaf coffee - work on service at some of the restaurants - A little difficult to communicate with staff
Location: Location close to airport. Did not do other activities as we have done many of them on prior vacations. Walks on the beach were great!
Grounds were beautiful. Our room in the Adults Only at Barcelo Bavaro Beach was roomy and comfortable. The ocean view was fantastic and we used the hot tub on the deck area one day. Chez Gourmet was by far our favorite restaurant with great food and service. We ate there two nights. I had the Chateaubriand which was excellent and my husband said the ribeye was to die for. Our second choice was the French Restaurant. There was an extra charge but you could use coupons in coupon book. The only drawback we had was poor service at the Mexican and the steakhouse restaurants. Breakfast and lunch were only offered as buffet. A pretty good variety but hot food items were often dry and cold unless you got in a line to have an omelette, etc made as you waited. Wish there was a sit down offering you could order off of the menu but I understand the buffet is more efficient. Also, decaf coffee is not offered. The staff does a very good job keeping the seaweed off of the beach. Beach chairs were readily available during our stay. The pool area was wonderful and inviting. Although I love children, the adults only feature was appreciated. Restaurants at the Barceló Bávaro Palace Deluxe hotel were a bit noisy with families with small tots. The walkway to the Barceló Bávaro Palace Deluxe hotel was nice and only took about 5 minutes. Massages at Spa (coupons available in book) were great and my husband played golf at the golf course three days.

Honeymoon

Posted 01-Mar-2015
Pros: Clean, beach was nice and big, parent hotel right next door if you want more to do. Had enough entertainment, very relaxing vacation.
Cons: Have nothing really negative to say about the hotel.
Location: enough excursion to do, had some activities throughout the day and always had some event going on at night.
Me and my wife went to our honeymoon here. Great place to stay. My wife is 31 and I am 33 years old. The resort was older, the median age the probably was about 60 years of age. There was enough people there around our age though. Very nice and quite, especially at night, but if you wanted a little more excitement they have the parent hotel right next door that has a train coming about every 10 -15 mins to go if you wanted. The food was good, the food at the restaurants were even better (you have to make reservations for them though). Overall me and my wife could definitely go back to this same resort!!!!

Best Beach Front

Posted 28-Feb-2015
Pros: Adults Only
Cons: Room Cleaning/Re-stocking of fridge/ Jacuzzi was filthy upon arrival
Location: Plenty of activities available
I highly recommend this resort after my 7 day stay. I did however have a few issues that were not major but would have added to the experience. 1) Our room was cleaned but not restocked with drinks and toiletries on three occasions 2) A breakdown of the available free/paid for excursions were not completely reviewed upon arrival 3) Our reservations the first night were late (not by choice) and upon arriving, found that 3 of the entrees were 'out' Otherwise, our group had a blast and the staff were great!

The beach is the best aspect of the resort.

Posted 28-Feb-2015
Pros: The beach, the beach, the beach. Just wonderful. Safe and secure as well.
Cons: The adults only section we paid for was adjacent to the family section so there is spillover. There were families and kids on the beach and building.
Location: Never left the resort.
Beach is stunningly beautiful, mostly quiet, no vendors, expansive, great for swimming, and soaking in the Caribbean sun. We spent 5 days in the adults only section of the hotel. I've stayed around the world and never have written a review. But just got back last night so I'll share my thoughts. The good parts: it's large, landscaping is beautiful, the pools is lovely, and the beach (as above) is one of the best I've stay on in the world. Absolutely lovely. The average parts: the food buffets, nothing special. The room with the ocean view we paid for was mediocre. The ocean could only be seen stretching off the balcony and looking hard to the right. The bad: Jacuzzi didn't function for 2 days. The safe never functioned. Both were reported repeatedly. The customer service was about average for the DR…a few glimmers of better service, but most servers still only respond well when tipped (even though it's all inclusive). The restaurants are a window dressing with average food.

Everything that we want!

Posted 27-Feb-2015
Pros: It's smaller laid back atmosphere. Attachment to a mega resort affords lots of eating, entertainment and activity options! Management/staff wonderful!
Cons: In some areas of the resort the Wifi access is intermittent.
Location: Big variety of all -inclusive activities right on the property. Very nearby are all the usual land and aquatic adventures!
We have traveled extensively and now are more interested in a laid back, warm weather retreat. We have stayed at a number of all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic and Mexico. This is our 4th at BBB Adults We love it! This is a smaller resort attached to a big resort (Barcelo Deluxe). The grounds, Pool, buffets and restaurants are quieter, calmer with out the activity of families with children. The resort it self is older, the buildings are 3 levels with elevators, the rooms are spacious, the baths are compartmentalized and every room has a deck or patio. Right size for us. Most have a view of the beach and ocean. If it does not have an ocean view it maters little as all the grounds are beautifully landscaped with a variety of native plants and are well maintained. Our typical day was to coffee over looking the ocean, large variety breakfast buffet, aerobics, sailing with lunch, maybe a nap in between, beach reading, clean up and head out to the resort restaurants or take the little trolly over to one of the upscale restaurants at the big resort, stroll the beach back to our place or stop in at the buffet for cappuccino and a second desert. There are shows every night, every sport and activity you can think of. Be highly active or do nothing. Perfect for us!

Disgusting food!

Posted 27-Feb-2015
The food was horrible!! There was literally not one good place to eat. You will regret staying here as you will be sick to your stomach. Yes- there are almost a dozen restaurants. Each is worse than the next. We even went to the Dominican buffet thinking "how could Dominican food be bad in the DR"? Well it was horrible too. Staff unfriendly as well. Beautiful beach beautiful room cool small casino. The poor quality of food takes away from all of it. Do not stay here. Stay somewhere else. Again, I can't stress that I'm NOT a picky eater.
