"Namesake cozy chalets with breathtaking views"
Before arriving on the island, I had been slightly dreading our stay at Cozy Chalet because of many recent negative reviews I found on both Expedia and TripAdvisor. Luckily, my low expectations somehow paid off - I loved our time at Cozy Chalet!
To begin with, the staff in Kota Bharu (namely a friendly driver named Kun) welcomed us with a smile and ushered us into the thankfully air-conditioned office. To be fair, the ladies behind the desk don't smile as much, but they were efficient in letting us know what to expect - take the 45-minute ferry to Perhentian Besar, check in to our rooms, and expect to leave either at 8am, noon, or 4pm the day of check-out.
I requested Chalet S9, though I had originally asked for S6 because of a review I read that showed a lovely view, but the one we stayed in had an equally beautiful view overlooking the aquamarine ocean. I could have sat on our private balcony for the entire trip, if it weren't for all the fun things to do around the islands.
This stretch of Perhentian Besar is quite quiet, with only three main hotels, which is nice for couples who aren't looking to party, as well as families who want to sleep at night. Water taxis to Long Beach and Coral Bay, where more of the action can be found, costs around 40MYR roundtrip for 2 people, and after 7pm, prices are doubled. We found that a bit inconvenient, especially since it poured rain one night, but still preferred to stay somewhere quiet rather than amid the booming music elsewhere
