“Great hotel and location”
Wonderful hotel but the beds were very hard.
“Hotel Tropicana - Great Location in Old Town Puerto Vallarta”
The Hotel Tropicana is has a great location in old town Puerto Vallarta. It is very easy to walk from the hotel to a number of restaurants and other places of interest. A cab ride to parts of old town is roughly 50 pesos. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are serviceable but not lavish. The bathrooms have a large shower stall but no bathtub. However, if you don't plan on spending much time in your room and will be taking full advantage of Puerto Vallarta, you can't beat the location. The hotel has a pool and a restaurant and is located right on the beach. If booking, I would definitely suggest that you make sure you get a room with a view of the bay.
“Our favorite hotel in Puerto Vallarta.”
We have been to PV 11 previous time and have stayed in both the Zona Romantica and Hotel zone. This was our first time at the Tropicana. We can't wait to go back. Room was immaculate; service was great. Location can't be beat. Everything was in walking distance. The beach was clean and wonderful. We loved this hotel.
“Good Value- Nice people”
My second stay at the Tropicana. Helpful people everywhere ... porters, front desk, housekeeping, towel service , bar and beach service. Everyone very nice. Great palapas on the beach, comfortable chairs and friendly food/drink service. Casual wi-fi area in lobby... open air to the pool, ocean & bar... nice escape from the mid-day heat. food on the beach so-so but not expensive so I wasn't really disappointed.
“Nice place and no timeshare selling!”
Hotel Tropicana is well-located in the Romantic Zone overlooking the Bay of Banderas. The location is walking distance to just about everything and, if you need to take a bus, the bus stop is only 3-4 blocks away. The rooms are pretty spartan, but most overlook the bay and that is an incredible view -- especially at sunset. You can also view the whales migrating south from the balcony. WOW! We really enjoyed the restaurant for breakfast. Nice selection, excellent service, fair prices, lovely atmosphere and good food. Hotel personnel are friendly and helpful. We go to Puerto Vallarta every year and this was our first time at the Tropicana. We will be back.
“Conditional recommendation”
The hotel is in a great location and is well run. The beds - standard for Mexico I find - but again that is typical. It is very clean and well maintained. Felt I could leave things in my room and they were secure. Staff were good. Amenities were also good. BUT - depends on which room you get. I booked a standard and for a bit more I would upgrade as u get a larger room with view - otherwise u may get stuck on street (noisy) and small stuffy room.
“Great staff; will go back!”
Was impressed with the hotel overall. It has several buildings in the small complex. We were in an older building overlooking the ocean. It seemed as though our very large room at one time had been perhaps two rooms as we had two separate balconies. Staff wasere extremely pleasant and helpful with any request we had. There was a large plastic jug of water in the hallway where we could fill a pitcher for our room. The bathroom was very large, though outdated somewhat. No need for a/c but it was available. Interesting way to handle the system of "reserving" beach chairs. Chairs (and not just towels) must be put out by a staff member. I wish this whole process could be changed for all of Mexico where normally, it's just a matter of putting towels on a chair and that's it. This, I suppose, bodes well for those who arise at the crack of dawn to "get a chair", but doesn't seem fair to others. I don't care to get a lot of sun, but for those who do, there needs to be an improved method. Hotel was in a great location, easily walkable (wear sturdy shoes) to many places to eat, shop and get to the boardwalk and then onto the Malecon. Would go back.
“Super bang for the peso!”

“Great location in old town”
Ideal location in old town. Located right on beach. Maid service was good. Front desk personnel were polite but not much help. I was concerned about security in my room. Still has the old key entry and the lock/latch were not very substantial. No dead bolt. There was a safe in the room but it was broken so I could not secure my valuables in the room. You can check valuables at the front desk. Great pool area with plenty of those hard plastic loungers. Problem was they only have about 10 cushions which go very early. Without them, the loungers are very uncomfortable. Good beverage service around pool. I did not eat at the restaurant. Know that this is not a 4 star hotel. It is old but clean and comfortable in great location for a great price.
“Great for price and location”
This hotel was a great find. The room was huge, overlooking the ocean with two decks! It was immaculate, in a great location in Old Town near everything. Parking was a challenge due to the narrow road and traffic but the staff were kind. I highly recommend this hotel. A bargain for sure.
