“Internet for a fee, parking for a fee, and poor room service.”
I had been to San Juan many times before and decided to stay in the Caribe Hilton because of its proximity to Old San Juan, Isla Verde, and the beautiful pool in the pics. And I hoped for a "luxury" hotel experience. Nowadays, even a "value" hotel will offer free wireless internet in the rooms. To my surprise I was told there was free wireless internet in the lobby and cabled internet in the rooms FOR A SUBSTANTIAL DAILY FEE. At this price and caliber hotel? No excuse. At least they could offer the cabled internet for free. When we got into the hotel room the bed was pulled away from the wall - it looked like someone got halfway through cleaning and then forgot to do the rest. They forgot to put the soap and shampoo out as well. The shower let forth an ear splitting high pitched whine of the plumbing which faithfully lasted the duration of the shower - must be air in the pipes or something. I expected parking to be covered. It wasn't - you have to go to the parking counter everyday when you are leaving to have your parking ticket validated and get charged a "discounted" daily hotel rate. The pool was beautiful. The gym was great. The beach was scant - but if you want a nice beach you should go 30 minutes east to Luquillo or take the Fajardo ferry to Vieques or Culebra. Much prettier than the local San Juan beaches. This hotel isn't worth the price. If you want a nice luxury hotel try the Ritz Carlton.
“not impessed”
had to wait 4 hours to check in, staff not helpful to prepare a room in a timely manner, although there were rooms available on higher floors they refused to help. bed was stuck to closet and refrigerator very difficult to got to. dirty bathroom floor.
“Caribe is OK”
We stayed at the Hilton for Thanksgiving 2011. When we checked in, we initially liked the room, but when we realized we were next to a construction area (a building next to the Hilton is under construction) the 6:30am wake up call was not appreciated. We had no light in the bathroom and no top sheet on the bed (comforter only) and the AC did not work well. We switched rooms the following morning, and got a quieter and better room that had a full kitchen (we were very happy). The vending/ice machine was right outside of our room and the ice maker was leaking which left a puddle in front of our door, and made for a very slippery tile floor both in our room and outside of our room in the hallway. The service is ok at the Hilton...much slower than we are used to in the states. Nerida, was the best server we encountered during our stay. The Precor gym is amazing and the trainer who conducted the ab class, Marisol, was outstanding. We couldn't have been more pleased with the gym. The Hilton is located in San Juan, but on a private "lagoon", which was nice, but our hotel was not located anywhere near anything that was in walking distance, so we had to take cabs everywhere, which proved to be expensive. We would return to Puerto Rico, but would prefer a 'beach' area, versus a 'lagoon' in a city. We didn't realize how "citified" San Juan would be. We did not feel safe walking around at night. I wish we were near other hotels and restaurants that we could walk to.
“Cant wait to return”
The Caribe Hilton is a wonderful hotel. We had a great experience and a great vacation!!! EVERYONE IS VERY NICE AND HELPFUL. Would recommend this hotel to others.
“Looks just like the website photos”
The Caribe Hilton was very nice and comfortable. The beds and pillows were extremely nice and provided for very restful sleep. The staff was helpful and ready to assist whenever needed.
“The best hotel in San Juan”
The location was great. The views of the ocean from the hotel was excellent. My husband and I felt very safe there. We were out to 11pm. The staff at the hotel was very friendly. The tour we took was very nice. The tour guide was very professional and he made us feel safe in a strange city. The food, hotel and location exceeding all of our expectations.
“Wonderful experience”
What a great place to stay. The atmosphere and views are tremendous. Other reviews complained about the paneling in the rooms and some of the older decorations. They are true but they don't take anything away from our experience here. The sights were great and the room was clean and comfortable. The food prices were high but we just went to Old San Juan and found local restaurants to have great food and a good value. I recommend this place to anyone going to San Juan.
“Best beach view!!”
The hotel have one the best beach view in puerto rico luv it. I just didnt like the fact that they charge so much for parking and the wifi doen't really work in the room just downstair in the lobby. We had to wait almost 3 hours for checking in because we got there too early and the room weren't ready, overall I love this place.
“Best night stay in San Juan”
The amenities were excellent and the staff was helpful and attentive. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in San Juan after this last trip
“Great for Families”
Stayed here for a week with our soon-to-be three-year-old. There was plenty to do onsite and it was very easy to get to Old San Juan. Yes, dining options are limited onsite, but that just gives you a reason to explore. We were very happy with all of our staff interactions and the condition/cleanliness of the this property.
