“Would definately go back”

This is a really nice hotel, it was a great for the price and great customer service. The staff is very nice and always looking to accomodate your requests. We feel we got a lot included for the price we paid, even the disco and the drinks inside the disco were included. The restaurant a la carte was a real nice experience and the food really good in all the restaurants a la carte and buffet with a lot of variety. Animation staff goes out of its way to entertain you too and there are always a lot of activities, but if you want a quiet time to relax there is also a quiet pool with a cascade, to relax. There are three pools in total. One corner you can't miss is the pond with ducks, peacoks and geese and a big turkey. They are simply beautiful and you can feed them and they will come to eat right out of your hand. We would definately go back

“doesnt even worth a bad review”

this hotel is just the worst place i have ever stayed, great location but really really bad maintenance of the whole structure. I was there for New Years eve where food suppose to be at least Good... it was frustrating even alcohol was poor!. These people need to rebuilt a whole new Hotel because the location is great, I mean theres a Marina almost next the Luperon town has many nice people... but this hotel is Cr**!

“Old resort, low price”

The resort is about 30 years old and needs some renovations (which according to the owner will soon be done). It's not really a 4-star resort anymore which even is confirmed by the owner. But the price-earnings ratio is thanks to the amazing low price absolutely correct. Due to low occupancy everything was a little sized down incl. the restaurant. Food was ok. The location is somehow isolated, Luperon has nothing beside the nice marina, and it takes one hour to drive to Puerto Plata. All in all a pleasant stay and worth the money.

“Worst Resort I ever stayed at”

********Caution******** This was by far the WORST resort I ever stayed at. don't waste your time or money. when i was there 13 other guest along with myself ended up transfering to diffrent resorts because it was garbage. so save your time and money. I would highly recommend the 2nd resort that we transferd to it's called the Grand Oasis hotel & resort. it's more up to date. The luperon resort is a very old resort that they tried to remodel and did a horriable job. take notes that your gonna only find limited pictures of the resort. check other people comments. I would hate to see anyone else go threw what i went threw....

Area recommendations
purto playa. theres so much more to do there, golf, casino, aquiriams, diffrent ecscurtions...
Getting there
Took forever its abot an hour and a half from the airport
Dining
There on a scheldue so you better pay attention or you wont eat.
Outdoors or beach
Most of the beach was closed due to pollution. your gonna have to settle for the pools there.

“Off the beaten track!”

Tried to borrow iron several times, never availble. Staff friendly except for Junior the towel boy, he was rude. They claim to be 4 stars, well they are lucky to be 2! The room was very dark. The bathroom was even worse, it had 1 lite out. Also, the shower wall mount was broken so you had to hold the shower head in your hand while bathing. The room A/C was blowing only slightly chilled air, it ran constantly. In the summer it would of been a furnace in the room. The room's telephone was broken. Cable TV had no remote. Pillows lumpy. Sheets were not fitted, and came off all the time. You will find a much better room at a Hotel 6 or Super 8 in the USA. However, a $6 tip to the maid changed some of this! The shower mount was repaired, the light in the bathroom was changed, and maintenence came to look at the A/C (on my last day). I don't drink so I can not tell you about drink strength, but I did see they have a 2 drink at a time limit when you go up to the bar. Food in restaurant good. No wi-fi availble, and internet is $8/ hour at hotel's internet cafe.

Area recommendations
You pass through the village of Luperon on the way to the resort. The resort is about a mile out of town. Don't stop. It is extremely run down.
Getting there
Best to go on a tour bus included in your package. The money you save on the rooms may be a wash if you have to pay taxi from Puerto Plata. It is a 1 hour drive from the airport to the resort on a narrow, windy, dark country road.
What to pack
Everything because it is very expensive at the hotel store or in Luperon village. Sunscreen is $20. They only bring give you (2) 16 oz bottles of water when you check in; for example a gallon of water to re-fill the small bottles in the hotel store was $6.
Nightlife
What nite life? Hotel shows only, unless you take taxi to Puerto Plata.
Outdoors or beach
Beach is rocky, bring water shoes as they have a lot of sea urchins imbedded in the rocks and they have spines. Water clean.

“We'll go back and take our teenage children next trip.”

As an all-inclusive it was as expected. Lots to do if you wanted to partake or do nothing if that was your choice. The buffet was better than average but the specialty restaurants were a big disappointment. The Italian was the worst with under cooked pasta, breaded veal as tasteless as breaded cardboard and a poor imitation of a cesar salad. Having said that we'll go back but will stick to the buffet for our meals.

“Adventure in Luperon”

The food was good and the entertainment was good. Luperon is a bit out of the way so it is expensive to get to by taxi. If you are traveling by car it is pretty cool since the natives are friendly. You can go to where Christopher Columns landed at La Isabella. The beach was good but rocky in places. Overall a good experience at a competitive price.

Getting there
Getting there is a trick. We rented a car from Santo Domingo. The trip up was frightening to someone from the US. They have a completely different mindset when it comes to safety. However I got there safely so that was good. It is very easy to get lost in the DR. Road signage is not good. Don't travel at night on unfamiliar roads. There was a bridge under construction which you might miss at night. Be prepared to stop and ask directions. Speaking spanish isn't required but being good natured is. I often was reduced to pantomime/charades. It was kind of fun and an adventure for me! Alternatives are Taxi (expensive) or by shuttle if you can arrange that as part of your package. My recommendation is to work this out before arriving on the island....

“miserable hotel”

The first room they gave us was miserable. We could not imagine staying there for a week. On the next day I asked for better room. We paid a little bit and moved to a better room. It wasn't great, but OK. Everything in the room was limited to the minimum. For example only two small bottles of water, so you have to go and ask for more. Of course the staff there do not speak English at all. Seriously, they do not even understand "water", so I learned to say "aqua". The food is great. There are only tow restaurants. One of them you cannot visit unless you have reservation and because it is very small it was booked for a week ahead. We were able to visit it because we met a nice couple and they invited us to their table. The beach is terrible. Only one very small (less than 20 ft) area is not covered with rocks and you can swim only there. The animation is good. We liked the evenings.

“Honeymooners' resort!”

Despite the confusion and anxiety upon check-in as having no booking, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The hotel has organized many activities, one would be enticed to just stay put, enjoy the beach, the pools, jacuzzi, disco, as well as join the dance and yoga lessons, entertainment at night, and eat, eat, eat! (Drink, drink, too)...Food was fantastic, could not get enough of the papaya, and had no chance at all to try the desserts, as there was sooo much to try from the main courses.Service at the restaurants and bars was prompt but quite reserved, they could use more warmth and charm. Language barrier perhaps...I was very impressed with how the entertainment staff organized a different show each night, which I enjoyed participating in thoroughly. It made my stay there very memorable. Welcoming the new year by the pool, dancing to the music of a live band, and a full moon that was ordered too, it was truly unforgettable. The weather was cloudy and it was windy, too, but I was able to enjoy the sea and beach at the eastern end of the resort, which also had a bar and good snacks/lunch to go with the drinks. Really fun! Staff was friendly, I practiced my Spanish with them as much as I could. This resort is perfect for honeymooners! The buildings are all well-laid out, with 3 swimming pools at different locations, with bars and snacks, clean and well-trimmed gardens, I felt like a queen there! Was sad to leave, but the memories will stay forever inside me.!!!

Area recommendations
The resort itself, as well as to try Playa Dorada in Puerto Plata town, and someday, Punta Cana! I hope DR was not affected (and will never be hit ) by the recent catastrophe in Haiti. My sentiments are with the Haitians now...
Outdoors or beach
Varadero Beach is still the best I've seen, bluer and calmer waters... but that depends on the season, of course. Will try other Caribbean islands in the future too. Thanks.
