“Worst place I've ever stayed”
I should have listened to the other poor reviews posted here! First room was horrible with bugs around the sink, filthy faucet, & other things but worst of all was the framing around the bathroom door with the black mold & it was unfinished with holes--found a bug (think it was cockroach) in the bathroom that went running back into one of the holes when we went in there. They moved us & the next room was only minimally better. Door to the bathroom was so poor & old that it was hard to close. Another door somewhere slammed & the light fixture over the bathroom mirror fell so it was dangling in front of the mirror. I called for maintenance to come & repair it; they never showed up! A friend pushed it back up somewhat in place, with wires still hanging. Next day, I asked again & they said someone would be there within 15 minutes--no show again! I could call out on the phone, but no calls in. I asked them to come & fix it--guess what? No shows! Most unfriendly & unhelpful staff I've ever encountered overall. It was rare to find a friendly or helpful one. Food was very poor--choices & quality. Overall dirty dining areas. Very small beach was closed the entire week. Poor drink quality at the bars. Appeared to be prostitutes coming & going. I wasn't looking for top of the line, I wanted a decent place near friends who live there. Since 1 is the lowest rating, that's what I'll have to give it. The list goes on & on; these are just some highlights of the horror!
“Don't stay here”
This was the second time for us at this resort. They had muh of it closed becuase of the low season. Last year we had a room with a leaky roof and they put us in a room that was adequate and had been remodeled. This year three couples stayed and we will not return. The rooms were very run-down and not well cleaned. Our floor, when we arrived, had dried mud on it that destroyed your socks. We had to find someone to mop the floors. The bathrooms in all three of our rooms had mold and were in need of a serios overhaul or at least a good cleaning. The buffet was the same day after day. This place is definatley not a place we will return to.
“Holiday”
We have just returned from 3 weeks at Casa Marina which is currently having some work down on site. Staff are as friendly as ever and food was up to a good standard. Pools are cleaned every day and dispute the rains best efforts we had a most enable holiday. Will be return again next year.
“Will stay again”
-Beautiful ocean front resort
“friendly place”
The hotel is simple but lovely. It is beautifully located on a long, gorgeous beach and also offers two big swimming pools. The dining halls are well tended, the food is good, and the guests are mostly from Europe and Canada. There is too much smoking (not the hotel's fault), but annoying even when there is a smoking section in a restaurant and even when all the restaurants are outdoors! I'd stay there again.
“not worth the money, compared to the other resorts en puerto plata(playa dorada)take my word for it.”
i actually live in dominican republic.retired nyc cop.i have stayed in many resorts in dominican republic as a weekend getaway and i can tell u this resort is one of the worst i ever have been to.toke my wife and my daughter for the weekend for 3 days.end up staying one night.first let me start of by saying that the minute u walk into the place it looks like a cheap hotel.nothing modern.no ambiance.very old looking compared to the resorts in puerto plata, playa dorada.the food is horriable and thats not much of a selection as in some other resorts.the rooms are ok,passable, but not 3 stars .the only thing going for this hotel its is 4 pools with 2 jacuzzi pools facing sosua beach with a beautiful view of the ocean.thats it.the alcohol is horrible.no primium liquers and they don't even carry president beer which is countrys signiture brand. i end up leaving the next day and stood a resort called "THE GRAND VENTANA" in the playa dorada en puerto plata 20 minutes away by car..stood there before and its great. just remember for the same money u spend in this resort u can stay at a 4 star resort en puerto plata, playa dorado.any one of the them.casa marina is just ok for a group of guys or girls who don't care about food and ambiance and just want to take in some rays by the beach and pool.and a night walk into town and drink and party till4 am.but remember u will have to spend ur own money and thats not why u pay to stay at an all-inclusive place.people don't waste ur money here.
“Not Impressed”
Checked out a day earlier, Completely un-satisfied, AC was broken, Lights were not working
“Iris”
My husband enjoyed the stay. I enjoyed it but wouldnt return next year. The staff was friendly. The room was ok. The food was good. The staff was not pushy with the time share. The drinks were ok. The neighborhood felt safe at night. We went a couple of blocks down to where all the bars were. The snorkeling at the 3 rocks was very nice. Beach umbrellas were $3 USD. I like fancier hotels. The trip to Paradise island was long but well worth the 3 hour ride. Bring candy for the kids begging in Paradise Island. I gave them US coins and they seemed happy. A couple brought them t shirts. I love DR, but next year will have to flip a coin with mu husband because he wants to go back. I saw 2 water bugs. One in the hall & the other in our bathroom.
“Do not THROW your money away!”
Casa Marina has to be the worst resort I have ever stayed in. I don't even know where to begin- for starters the front desk is extremely rude and have no clue what is going on in their own resort half-of- the time.Luckily, I traveled with my girlfriend who speaks Spanish because the hotel staff completely ignores anyone who is non-spanish speaking. They act if they do not understand you and try to avoid dealing with any mishaps that may occur during your stay. Our room was dirty and run down in essence, it resembles a motel . The bed spreads were dirty, the bathroom had tiles popping out of the walls and paint chippings on multiple spots, there is not a bathroom tissue holder in sight, there was a hole in the wall underneath the television stand, traveling ants surround the windows at all times, and there is no refigerator in the room. The a/c is terrible and shuts off every hour, there are local vendors who come on to the property and harrass you every chance they get. Now on to the food service: buffet is terrible. Seemed like potatoes were the entree served every night. The hotel did not offer any chicken dishes and the beef choices (when given) were scarce. The resort claims to have multiple bars with unlimited alcoholic beverages but half of the bars did not have anyone tending to them.STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE if you do not want to throw away your money or your vacation.
“Great Vacation for the price!!!”
The hotel is listed as a 3-star hotel but the rooms were nicely decorated and the beds were uber comfy. The hotel is right on the beach and the walk from the room to the beach was about 4 minutes. The people were very friendly and try their best to make sure you enjoyed your stay. We walked out in the little town of Sosua and explored a little. For the price, I have to say, my fiancee and I enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back to the Casa Marina Reef & Beach Hotels.
