This is the 5th time I have stayed at Puerto Plata Village. Although this is an older resort, I find it very comfortable. All the staff I have met/dealt with do anything in their power to make sure your stay is enjoyable and trouble free. I very much enjoy their buffet meals. I think there is something for everyone in their selections for every meal. I especially like the fact that there are resident cats there. I am an animal lover and enjoyed feeding them each time I had my own meal. This is the only resort I will stay at in the Dominican Republic and I have tried several different ones over the years. I love this resort and it feels like home to me every time I return.

The person that check me in was rude. He wouldn't answer any of my questions. The contract was confusing to much small print and each section was in 5 different languages. After I left the lobby, they have a person showing you to your room. The room was nice, ocean view with two queen size beds. I wouldn't trust the safe it looked like someone tried to pry it open. The next place is looking for food and drink. Everything is in a centralized area, I had a cheese burger that tasted almost as good as Wendy's burgers. I don't drink alcohol but they do serve you the cheap stuff. They have three restaurants, I ate at the buffet. I can't rate the meals because I eat M.R.E.'s. I love the meals at the buffet. One thing bring IMODIUM. The resort staff took about 4 days to warm up to me. I was a single male and from what I have seen they do have drunk gropers. The staff was really good with children. The staff was also very good with entertainment, my mom would of loved to see the Cabaret show. I like snorkeling at Sosua it was 50 dollars, make sure you bring a tip the lead person is very good. The only bad thing about the trip is the vendors on the beach. They try to sell you junk. The one would not leave me along. He tried to charge me 80 dollars for a necklace I saw for 10 dollars and 50 dollars for a bottle of Dominican Rum, he was so annoying I never went to the beach to lay down just to watch the surf. This was a real vacation killer.
I spent 4 nights at this hotel at the Christmas Holiday. I really didn't know what to expect. The pictures on both Trip Advisor and Expedia do not reflect the beauty and ambience of this hotel. Everything was immaculately clean. The grounds are beautiful. The restaurant is small and RIGHT on the ocean with a fabulous view. Our room was on the first floor which was great as we could sit on our small patio and see the ocean. Manager Ted, an American from Texas, is on the property daily and very available to talk with which is always great to know that management is actually tending to business. The rooms are simple but very clean with a safe, a smalll frig and very ample bathroom. TV and internet work! Housekeeping is very good and the hotel staff was super friendly and accommodating. The restaurant had very good food with great prices and also will bring food to you at the pool. The food was fresh and well prepared and I loved getting my morning cappucino or latte at the bar. Best thing about the hotel is the location, a 5 minute walk to all the bars and restaurants on the beach. Also, one block from the ATM and the grocery store which has everything you could need for snacks and even full meals. Traveling as a single woman with my two adult daughters, we felt safe even at night (early in the evening) walking to and from the restaurants on the beach. Access to the beach is easy, right on the property, and you can walk/run for several miles on the beach.

We reserved the Royal Suites for our second day in teh Puerto Plata area. The first day we stayed at Casa Colonial and it was awsome! At Lifestyles from the begining even checking in was painful, there were a lot of people we had to wait to check in and then wait for the room to be ready. Once we got to the room we were very dissapointed it was not what is advertised in the pictures on the web site, in fact it was old, not kept up to date.
Another issue is trying to make reservations to have diner in one of the gourmet restaurants. this should not be a hassle but here it is. We had a VIP bracelet and we stayed for one night and because of this I have called well in advance to let them know I was concerned that we may not be able to get a reservation and was tyold they will accomodate, when I arrived it was very dissapointing and got no help what so ever; in fact the only restaurants they told us had opening were the mexican, dominican, chinese and the buffet restaurants. We chose the chinese restaurant and was a big mistake because the food was awful, we did not eat all our food and joinned other couples that lefty tgis restaurant and went to the buffet.
There seemes to be VIP areas that are nice and sounds like the villas and presidential suites may be in better shape. I may give this place another shot if I were to stay at one of these rooms and try one of the gourmet restaurants hoping we have a better experience next time
