“amazing time there.. great hosts...”
very good food and guest services is A1. very clean room and comfortable. Slept very well. Beach is perfect. clear water and plenty of place to find a quiet spot.
“Could have been better”
My room was just next to the maid's headquarters, limiting privacy and quiet. While not intrusive, the maids did make noise and required that I secure privacy. Next time, I will make sure that I am not assigned such a room. For the first day or so, I was barraged by agents for securing rooms of better (higher?) quality in the future. After the second day of such selling, I had to lay the law down aggressively to one of these salespersons. While on trips, I was also exposed to undesired selling, particularly of tourist items of very questionable taste, either artistically or otherwise. These items were the same at every venue in the Puerto Plata area. It would have been nice to see some genuine local art rather than this kind of poor quality merchandise. The guides, personnel, and most staff that I met were of highest quality. The food was excellent, although I was a bit surprised to find that it was necessary to compete for seats at the three main restaurants. Fortunately, I discovered this early on, so that I was able to sample each. I missed the availabilty of quality international newspapers and a better shop at the hotel. When I inquired about stamps for postcards, the front desk sent me to the shop, and the shop sent me to the front desk. That certainly limited my purchase of some rather nice postcards. So, overall, the experience was fine. But, it could have been a whole lot better.
“Very nice stay”
Great food. Great staff.Great location.
“Going downhill”
We have been to this resort over 6 times in the past. The service and quality was disappointing this time. The resort was only 60% full but they would not upgrade us even when our A/C didn't work. We complained for 4 days before they would move us to a new room. The food at the buffett was mediocre and boring. Thank goodness for the salads and pasta bar which is always good.
“OK-adequate”
Food was great. Hair dryer & phone didn't work in our room .We told the front desk, but they never bothered to come by & fix either. They promised a chance to eat at the three different restaurants, but we tried to make reservations as soon as we arrived & could only get one for the last night we were there. ((first choice goes to members of their "travel club"). Not alot to do at the resort. We took a city tour with a cab & tour guide. This was definitely worth the money & you can go where ever you want. The all day Catamaran cruise is fun & the snorkeling was great.
“Nice smaller resort, good value”
Overall, this is a very solid 4-star resort which would be very appealing to those wishing to enjoy an adults only experience. The resort is well maintained and cleaned, although the rooms are a little run-down. Lobby area is very nice, although I found the staff at the front desk to be the least friendly in the whole resort. Food is plentiful and good quality at buffet and a la cartes. I really enjoyed the Asian and Seafood restaurants, found the grill lacking in quality and service. The buffet has decent selection though a little repetitive. The Egg Man and Nilson are superstars for breakfast. Drinks were well made, and better quality rum was available if you asked. Service at the theatre bar was definitely the best, the swimup bar was a little hit and miss depending how much the guy enjoyed his job on a particular day. Entertainment staff were good and not overbearing, though at times there was less going on than I would have hoped. Pools are clean and warm, beach is pretty good for Puerto Plata and the staff on the whole were very welcoming and helpful. The "yellow shirts" are not a problem if you're polite but firm. Overall, if you want a smallish resort without children where you can really get to know the others at the resort but still have a small level of luxury, this is a great place for you. I would definitely consider returning, especially if the prices stay reasonable.
“blue bay”
Realy good food, friendly staff. Great for couples, no kids. sea without waves, no body surf.
“I am sorely disappointed!”
This hotel was horrible. There were ants in my bedroom, there were little black bugs on the floor in the room, and I am still itching and scratching from the ants in my bed! We complained about the hotel room conditions to the front desk , and they had to move two of us 3 times!!! I am upset. The rooms are outdated, the curtains smell, and are moldy, and they did not even sweep the room daily there was sand and dirt on the floor when I would come back in for the evening. This hotel sucked, was a waste of money. I thought it was 3 and 1/2 stars per Expedia's rating. Expedia lied! This is a 2 star hotel, all day long. One of my friends hotel room's air conditioner did not work for 2 days! Are you kidding me I am upset. I am still using medical ointment for the ant bites I endured from my stay..This hotel needs to be renovated, and the manager at the front desk was rude, and unaccomadating.
“Angela and Karen's Dominican getaway”
I can’t say enough great things about this hotel. The staff was friendly and spoke enough English to make you feel comfortable. It was sparkling clean every day. The buffet and the lobby are open air so it was warm but you could still feel a breeze. The pool bar was lively with plenty of multi national people to chat with during the day. Or if you prefer a quieter space, there was the spa pool on the other side with jets. Believe me when I say, we did not want to leave. I think of only 2 cons: The fitness room needed a bit more updating and the food might not be appealing to pickier eaters
“Perfect Vacation”
The facility was nice and always clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a great place to relax for a week.
