“We'll be back and bring family and friends!”
This is an excellent hotel in a great location. It's smoke free and very comfortable. The staff spoke English and treated us extremely well. We'll be back.
“So Pleased We Chose This Hotel”
Excellent central location, was able to walk to all main tourist attractions (although bear in mind Prague is quite hilly). Also nicely quiet at night away from main clubbing area. Hotel arranged taxis for us to and from airport (approx £25 each way). Lifts to all floors, good sized accommodation. 24 hour reception. Lots of good pubs and restaurants in same street. Only criticism is that breakfast wasn't the best - ran out of tea bags! And cereals were stale. Only hot food was scrambled eggs and frankfurter sausages (yuk!) But overall I would definitely recommend.
“WOW, that was amazing”
Located in the heart of Prague, right below the Prague Castle, this hotel is as close to the main tourist sites as it gets. Combined with the excellent service, friendly staff (and delicious breakfasts which we enjoyed more than breakfasts in other hotels we tried during our trip) this hotel impressed us a lot. In fact, we consider our stay there as a highlight of the whole trip.
“Good location, Good Staff, No A/C”
Overall great experience at the Golden Wheel. The place only has 17 rooms, but each one is individually unique. The staff is very friendly and speaks good English. Breakfast was ok- the typical European breakfast of cold cut meats, eggs, toast and warm juices. There was no air conditioning in our room, but according to their website it says, "also with air conditioning" so maybe other rooms have it. It wasn't too hot in the room, considering we were there on the hottest day of the year, so it didn't effect us too much. I would recommend the hotel. Just ask for a A/C room if you are going in summer.
“great hotel in a great city”
The Golden Wheel is a wonderful choice for exploring Prague's main attractions. It is well-integrated into the Mala Strana area, near St Nicholas and The Charles Bridge. It is also very close to Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. If you plan to walk to major sights, you could not do better. Tram and metro are also relatively close. Only one drawback--you have to walk up a steep hill to get to it each day when you return from peregrinations. iwould return in a heartbeat, nonetheless.
“Beautiful property, great customer service!”
Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights last month. The hotel is charming and full of character. Room size was adequate and the location is only a block away from Charles Bridge and the old town. Pros: Nice building, beautifully decorated rooms/public areas, excellent breakfast, fresh strong coffee, friendly and extremely efficient staff, good location, comfortable bed, ultra clean bathroom, free wifi and one public pc. Staff goes beyond their duty to please their guests; we had a small problem upon check-in and the reception staff and a manager did all they possibly could to correct the situation, very impressive. Cons: not the hotel's fault, but the area surrounding the hotel goes to sleep after 9 pm. You can't get a sandwich or a snack unless you cross the bridge over to the old town, or go to McDonald's, which is just around the corner. We still recommend the hotel, just bring a snack before you head back. There's a mini bar in the room which we used to store our groceries. There's an electric kettle and tea in room, but there's a charge if you make coffee (coffee is placed inside the fridge as mini bar items). We took to-go packets and those came in handy. Europe is expensive, a cup of coffee could set you back $3-5. There's no iron/ironing board in the room, there's one or two to borrow, so plan accordingly. Tips: Bring comfortable shoes (Prague cobblestone streets are like no other), check currency exchange rates often and if there's a commission, we learned it the hard way.
“A great place to experience Prague”
We had a wonderful time at the Golden Wheel. The staff were friendly, helpful and relaxed. The hotel is charming, clean, breakfast was lovely. It was nice to be on the castle side of Prague -- quiet and less hectic than the center of the city and very beautiful.
“Great location and excellent concierge service”
This is a small boutique hotel that provides outstanding service and support to guests. We were due to leave Prague via Eurail on a day in June that a public transport strike had been called and therefore our scheduled train was not going to run. The staff were extremely helpful in helping us to find alternative transport and offered us another night in the hotel, if we were unable to leave Prague. The location is also outstanding. So why look elsewhere?
“Would return... Location, location, location...”
The Golden Wheel is an excellent family owned hotel in great location. We would reinforce the previous reviews and positive comments about great service and terrific location. Like others, we would note that if you are on the streetside you may need to close the windows (and there are two sets... so you will have peace and quiet) on occasion if the neighbors in the next building are a little too loud. Although not a busy location at night, sound echoes loudly in this historic part of Prague... stone houses and cobblestone streets!. Generally, nearby restaurants are good but if you do your research there are exceptional places in this city. If the weather is nice, we recommend you walk up the hill, bearing to your left toward the top... There you will find the Bella Vista restaurant... the view from the outdoor patio is arguably the best in Prague, the food good and the desserts...excellent. Need something quick? Across the street from hotel is a small store if you need fruit, a snack or bottled water. Leaving Prague from the train station? Ask the front desk to order a car/taxi for you, the fixed rate is good and the driver will get you there on time. Nice service when you know Prague taxis have a reputation for overcharging. Finally, the free WiFi is a nice perk... So often in Europe (and major US hotels) you pay a significant extra charge... so, free reliable WiFi is really nice. Enjoy Prague... A great small hotel like the Golden Wheel makes all the difference.
“Location can't be beat.”
Lovely little hotel in a great neighbourhood. Old Unesco building which has been renovated, but because of Unesco you have two elevators, multi-levels and awkward navigating to rooms, so not for the elderly..... Rooms were fine, clean and the staff hospitable. George and Lucie, the front desk staff were terrific, they did everything in their power to take care of our extracurricular activities request, had great recommendations and made for a very pleasant stay.
