Great place

Posted 17-Aug-2014
Hotel is in a really great location...right "under" the castle in the Mala Strana region. About 1/2 way up the hill from the charles bridge. Very pretty area with lovely buldings and shops. Loads ! of restuarants right on your doorstep. The hotel does ok food too. Carry on up the hill to monestary (totally worth a trip !...must see the library and also be sure to enjoy the restaurant overlooking the city) We had a room on the ground floor...ok but rather close to street (guess someone has to be there!). Room was rather hot but a fan was provided...can imagine that in peak summer temperatures, could be unbearablly hot in there. That may be true of many of these kinds of hotels and a/c isn't really in keeping with period building ;) Really good ! Would stay thre again (perhaps ask for upper floor room)

Charming character hotel, v.close to Prague Castle

Posted 16-Aug-2014
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful; The location was great for visits to Prague Castle Good views from the front facing rooms
Cons: Air conditioning. We were there in July and the daily temperature was over 30 C every day, and the room was too hot. There was no way to cool the room
Location: It's very, very close to Prague Castle (including St Vitus' cathedral) 15 minute walk to the top of Pitkin Hill
We love this hotel. We had a great holiday and really felt at home. The staff were really helpful. The room was full of character, with high ceiling. The location is great for visiting Prague Castle.

Ticked all the boxes, lovely romantic place.

Posted 30-Jul-2014
Pros: The view, the romantic atmosphere, room, position of the hotel, historic building, furnishings, pleasant staff, outside terrace bar restaurant, wifi.
Cons: It was pretty hot but all the windows opened widely, which I particularly like, and fans were in each room so possibly some kind of air con!
Location: Location excellent, but note, uphill. Plenty bars and restaurants lots of choice. Restricted traffic but taxis and other tourist transport.
Can't fault this hotel. Probably one of the nicest places that I have stayed. Went as a couple for an anniversary celebration weekend. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, the hotel a traditional and interesting building in a great position part way uphill towards the Castle (10 mins walk further on up) with a restaurant/ bar on the ground floor with an outside terrace and lovely views towards old town (about 10 /15 mins walk downhill to the river and bridge ) The room was 2 rooms, spacious, clean, lovely furnishings easily suitable for more than 2 people with a sofa bed in the sitting room TV fridge/minibar, separate shower room and also separate toilet off the little entrance hall, very comfortable bedroom with bathroom and fantastic views from 2 windows down the lovely cobbled street over the red roof tops and across to the spires of Prague. This room was on the third floor with a front street view. A busy area during the day (great for people watching), restricted traffic and quiet at night. Free Wi Fi. Breakfast was included and was good. Also had a couple of meals/ drinks at the restaurant, unhurried, relaxing, service good, a little expensive but comparable with other tourist places.

Magical stay

Posted 01-Jul-2014
Pros: Oh, the touch of elegance and yet comfortable.
Location: You are just below the castle and you must visit all the grounds, including the gardens and the churches. Beautiful city park entrance nearby.
The hotel is amazing and not too expensive. The view of the city is spectacular, although you must climb the hill to reach it. You are just below the castle. The rooms are splendid and breakfast is a generous buffet. The restaurant is very good, too. The staff was very friendly and helpful everywhere.

Beautiful Hotel in a central location

Posted 13-Jun-2014
Pros: Pretty much everything.
Cons: We had a double bed with twin mattresses, and a bathtub with a shower-head you had to hold over yourself. Only a minor inconvenience.
Location: Plenty of city monuments nearby, but is almost a ten minute walk to the nearest metro station.
When we first walked in to our room we thought we'd been upgraded from a standard room to deluxe accidentally! It was extremely spacious, with lots of space to move around and plenty of storage for clothes, and personal belongings. Room amenities included a television, a mini-fridge with drinks, a safe, a kettle (with an assortment of teas and coffee). We had no problems with the wifi, it worked fine 100% of the time we were there. As student travellers we can't exactly afford to eat out for every meal. Luckily the breakfast buffet is free of charge for anyone staying in the hotel and has a good variety of hot and cold food. There didn't seem to be any objection to keeping our own food and drink inside the mini-fridge, so sometimes we brought back cheap supermarket sandwiches. Those staying in the hotel got 20% off any meal in the restaurant on the bottom floor. Lovely place to have dinner, with great food and a beautiful view of the city. The location is one of the best things about the Golden Star. Sitting at the top of Nerudova road, you can actually SEE the entrance to Prague castle it's that close, and Charles bridge is only a 5 minute walk. It's about as central as you can get while also retaining a relaxing atmosphere. Only annoyance is the walk back up the hill! The staff all had very good english, and were very helpful and I would definitely consider staying here again. It's relatively cheap for a 4* hotel, and the service you get is worth much more.

Charming hotel, full of character.

Posted 05-Jun-2014
Pros: Great location and excellent service from all staff.
Cons: Nothing.
Just back from a 3 night stay at the Golden Star and had a fantastic time in this beautiful city. Ideally located for getting around on foot to most of the main tourist attractions. Our room was on the 4th floor but did not have the views afforded those at the front of the hotel but this did not spoil our stay at all. The room was spacious and charming and was very clean. The staff were polite and helpful at all times and nothing was too much trouble for them. The downside for some mightbe the daily, or twice daily, climb back up the hill but you can always break up the journey by stopping at one of the numerous bars en route. This is also compensated by the view you get when walking back over the Charles Bridge, truly stunning.
