“Excellent Hotel”

We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Flora, Prague for the three nights of October 21st - 23rd 2011 and, I must say, were very impressed. The room was absolutely immaculate; of a very good size and included an iron and ironing board which, while not essential, is of course a very nice touch to refresh suitcase-travelled clothes. Also the bathroom had a shower over a full-sized bath which was nice to see in this age where the standalone shower seems to rule. The hotel staff were attentive, friendly and helpful and all knew their locale very well. My Czech is about as non-existent as you can get and all 'front office' staff spoke impeccable English (luckily for me!) The Old Town Square, Charles Bridge and Wenceslas Square are all very easily accessed by tram or the underground; stops for which are only a hundred metres or so up the road from the hotel. Opposite the hotel is a large, modern shopping complex (open 0600 - 0000 daily), including a supermarket, which is handy for essentials if you don't fancy paying hotel prices for those (and that is by no means a slur on the Marriott; it's the same the world over!) There's not a great deal to do in the immediate vicinty, but there are a couple of nice bars, and you're just far enough out of the City centre to avoid tourist prices. That said; Prague is an intimate City and nowhere is very far from anywhere so not being immediately central is not a problem. I would recommend this hotel to anybody.

Area recommendations
I would recommend that you pay a visit to all the 'usual suspects' while visting Prague, namely The Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, Prague Castle, St Vitus, Charles Bridge. With regard to St Vitus and Prague Castle; you might want to consider paying the area a visit after dark (Tram 22 to Prague Hrad). The Czech Republic seems to have an 'open door' policy insofar as the majority of the main attractions are not shut-down after dark. Sure, you may not be able to access the buildings, but it remains nonetheless incredibly impressive as those of you who have already visited will appreciate, and more-or-less devoid of people at such times whereas during the day it, understandably, is jam packed. Similarly you might want to get to Charles Bridge first thing. Try out the coffee and cake shops near Uzjed and, if you can, use the funicular railway to visit the hilltop observation post. Unfortunately it was closed during our visit but the intention was there! In terms of getting around, definitely buy either a 24 or 72 hour travel pass. It entitles you to unlimited travel for the duration of the eligibility of the ticket on the underground, trams, buses and funicular. The 24 hour pass costs 110CZK, which works out about £4.00. Excellent value for money. Beware that you need to validate your ticket before first use and that there are myriad inspectors in force and if you haven't validated your ticket; the fact that you're a tourist won't cut muster!
When to go
Anytime of year is good; although I've always classed Prague as a 'Winter City'!
Getting there
The airport is approximately half an hour's drive from central Prague and you have several transfer options if flying in. Firstly you can flag down a cab. However, it's well known that cabbies in Prague can horribly overcharge. This is something that's currently being addressed by the Mayor, I understand, but it's still a problem that's relatively rife so beware. Get a set price before you get in. Secondly, you can use a bus / tram combination, which is fine if you're travelling light and without kids; but a nightmare otherwise! Thirdly, and this is what we did, is to pre-book transfers before you leave home. I can't name companies on here I don't think, but the outfit I found proved to be very good value for money, punctual, helpful and polite. From Europe and the UK you can, of course, alternatively get the train or drive. My friend has a Czech wife and regularly drives from London to Prague without so much as breaking a sweat.
Getting around
As mentioned previously, the public transportation system is the only way to do it. Cheap and reliable.
Shopping
Expensive! I don't think I need to elaborate. If you're a smoker; it's a lot cheaper than, say, the UK (about half price) and local beer, which is excellent, is also cheap. Local wine is not great and imported alternatives are very dear. Commodities, in general, are expensive and to be avoided.
Dining
The choice (and cost) is immense and too varied to list here. A simple online search will reveal all!

“FLORA REVIEW”

Very good hotel located 4 minute walk from the Metro. Easy to get to center city by metro about 4 stops or 10 minutes. Room was good quality so was the food & service. Free wireless in lobby connection was good,Internet in your room was a additional cost and did not partake in that version .There is free internet to print your boarding pass on Marriott computer in the lobby, but that internet speed was awful.Too slow. Need a wireless printer in lobby.

“This Hotel is Great”

The Courtyard by Marriott Prague Flora was quite simply four stars well deserved. I was there for five nights. The location is very good (get off the metro A at Flora station and walk through the supermarket and exit 50m on the left, you are at the doorstep of the hotel across the road, which is clearly signposted. The staff were nice and helpful, but do not use the internet at the hotel lobby because they charge a fortune (about $8 for 30 mins). The room was great - large with a separate couch area near the king size bed, a nice bath and an (empty) fridge and safe. The television had some English channels which was good. There is an Alberts supermarket across the street open til 10pm which is good. The area is quite lovely, in the Vinorahdy district. Leafy streets and great buildings. I walked many times into old town square from the hotel across a park, it is a decent 45 minute walk. Basically the hotel was top drawer and I will definitely be back at the Marriott the next time I come to Prague.

“Excellent Hotel”

It was a good quality hotel at an affordable price. The location is not right in the centre but it doesn't take long to get there by underground, which is cheap.

“want to go back again”

we didnot want to stay in the tourist area, but easily accessible from the centre. this hotel was exactly that. The hotel staff were very friendly and showed us how to use public transport from next to the hotel itself. It was a safe neighborhood and roaming around was not at all a problem. The rooms were generous, breakfast was good. only if we could free access internet from the rooms it would have been superb. We would definitely recommend it to others.

Area recommendations
for young people may be prague 1 is the happening place, but for senior like us this neighborhood was suitable
Getting around
prague has a very good public transport system, and a day ticket is valid for 24 hrs. and in all types of transport, which is very helpful.Czech republic has such a rich variety of handicrafts, including the famous bohemian crystal.

“Courtyard by Marriott Prague Flora- Highly Recommended!”

Best items (in my opinion): 1. Staff is extremely courteous, and spoke english. 2. Food in the restaurant, Purple Basil, was excellent. 3. Convenient 24-hour store had food/drink available. 4. Tram/subway (green line) extremely easy to get to from this hotel. 5. Quiet location- not a lot of traffic noise when trying to sleep. 6. Size of rooms are great. 7. Grocery store (inside Palace Flora Mall), named Albert, is very convenient. Also inside the mall are numerous restaurants, as well as a place to buy soaps and beauty items, etc.

Area recommendations
We visited Old Town quite a bit, Charles Bridge, the Prague Castle.
Dining
Lots of cigarette smoke in most restaurants... most have non-smoking areas, but you still kind of get exposed to 2nd hand smoke anyways.

“Great hotel in Prague away from the crowd”

The location of the hotel was good, it's directly across the street from a nice mall where we picked up breakfast every morning in the foodcourt. Traveling time from the airport to the hotel is approximately 1 hour (bus from airport to line A subway station, then subway subway to Flora station), with Flora station connected to the mall. Subway from Flora to old town is about 10mins. The mall also have a supermarket inside it, making it convienent to snacks and drinks to keep in the hotel. The room was nice and clean and had a safe and fridge. Service at the counter was excellent, they provided us with help getting around, and arranged us a ride to the airport, since our flight was 7 in the morning and subway doesn't open till 5, the cost was 690ck. There's also a little convienent store in the lobby that opens 24hrs with snacks and drinks. Overall, our experience at the hotel was great!
