I stayed at the hotel last week and had low expectations because if the negative reviews. Thankfully, I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The room was tiny, but fine for a short stay, and the central location (close to Portsmouth & Southsea and Gunwharf Quays) was great.
"Lovely, airy old house, nice room, yummy breakfast"
At the end of a long and busy day of "touristing", it was nice to arrive at a quiet house in a quiet town. Lovely big room and private bath, all very clean. Nicely located outside of Portsmouth, we were able to get in to the historic harbor in plenty of time after a hearty breakfast. Good coffee! Private parking in the back of the building through a narrow opening, easy to miss. Back garden is open and airy.
Location about 15 mins from railway which is excellent link to Portsmouth Harbour and Americas cup.
Hotel at best end of Fareham, public areas of hotel very pleasant, staff competent and attentive. Breakfast was very good with a lot of choice and some very good fresh fruit. Car park safe and large with barrier access, excellent for use of train into town. Rooms 33 and 34 ground floor, quiet, large, a bit Spartan, lighting levels low, but clean enough, loosely comparable to Premier Inn standard with more space. Overall pretty good value. Negative comments on some reviews a surprise, maybe they thought they could get a Ritz room at this price? Deluded of course! Visit here made Americas cup trip very acceptable.

Home to the Royal Navy, Portsmouth is most famous for its Historic Dockyard. Visitors can clamber aboard Nelson’s flagship the HMS Victory, view the Mary Rose (Henry VIII’s flagship), and enjoy other nautically themed experiences. Adjacent, Gunwharf Quays buzzes with shops, bars, restaurants and nightspots. These are clustered around the 170-metre-high Spinnaker Tower, visible for miles around and offering great views from its summit.
