“A hidden gem in the Mediterannian”

This reasonably priced hotel is well situated opposite the sea in the middle of Rapallo. The front room we had was very clean and comfortable with nice sea views. The hotel staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful. Five nights was not long enough and we are planning to stay there again in our next travels. If you like walking Portofino is approximately 7 kms from Rapallo or you can catch the bus or ferry. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planing to stay in Rapallo.

“Most highly recommended”

This hotel is owned and operated by a family that goes out of its way to serve its guests, from the moment a family member runs to the curb to take you luggage from the taxi. It has an ideal location on the waterfront, a short walk from the ferry, and our room had beautiful views and a huge side terrace. Although the rooms don't have all the trappings usually associated with a 4-star hotel, they are a good size, the beds are comfortable, the air-conditioning kept us cool dispute the 90+degree temperatures outside, and the price is much lower than the other 4-star hotels. I would stay here again.

When to go
The summer is a good time to visit Rapallo, when the ferries to Portofino and to and between the towns in the Cinque Terre are running on a full schedule.
Must see
Portofino is a gorgeous place which should not be missed. It is best viewed when approached from the water. Ferries leave frequently from Rapallo and take about 1/2 hour. There is a path leading up into the hills from the left side of the harbor from which the views of the harbor, town, and surrounding hills are magnificent. The Cinque Terre also should not be missed. We went in June, when the ferry from Rapallo to the Cinque Terre was not yet running, (it starts regular trips is July), so we took the train from Rapallo to Riomaggiore, and walked or took a ferry between each town, returning to Rapallo by train from Monterosso

“Classic hotel close to everything”

Rapallo is the place to be on this coast and Astoria Hotel is excellent for the price. Most central location, which means keep the windows shut at night, but so convenient. Reception staff were excellent - couldn't do more for you. Breakfast coffee a rare disappointment.

“Portofino's best kept secret”

We stayed at the Astoria, the service was great. It is a family owned hotel so they try to give you the best so you will visit them again. I will definitely will stay again at the Astoria if I am in Portofino's area. Portofino's area is Italy's best kept secret, it is 1000 times better and more beautiful than the "Cote d'Azur".

“Who decided this is a 4-star property?”

My husband and I travel extensively and it pains me to have to write a negative review, especially since the staff was very welcoming upon check-in. However, from the moment we walked in, we were STUNNED to find the hotel in such shambles. The room was simply a mess. There were mysterious spots on the floor and furniture and the room looked like it had not been dusted or cleaned in a very long time. But, probably the most shameful and embarrassing was the lady who took us to the room had really bad BO. Not a nice thing to say, but honest nonetheless, and it needs to be mentioned, especially it claims to be 4 stars. It is in a prime location, near the ferry dock, beach, near all the better restaurants and just a few minutes away from the local trains that will take you to the Cinque Terre. But even with it being in the best location in Rapallo, my husband and I could not stay there one night. It is the shortest time my husband and I ever stayed in a hotel (just one hour and knew we had to find another place). On the positive side, the staff was genuinely nice, but the hotel is no where near what it claims to be on its brochure and website. I feel badly for the people running this hotel who, although tried to be accommodating, could not accept that the hotel needs a lot of repair & work before it can claim its standing.

Traveller's tip
Definitely take the ferry to Portofino and Santa Margherita. Rapallo is 1 hr. by train to the Cinque Terre.

“I loved this hotel”

This hotel was centrally located in Rapallo and confortable to European standards.

If you are looking to buy a few gifts in Rapallo there is the outdoor market every Thursday better bargains then the stores.

“lovely Italian experience”

The hotel was lovely and the people there were very friendly and made us feel not only welcome in their country, but at home there. It was our first night in Italy and we felt a little awkward and apprehensive with communicating, driving, parking, etc., but the people at the hotel were kind, warm and helpful. We even had to have a package sent there and they accepted it and had it for us when we arrived. Thank you all at Hotel Astoria!
